The Manual for Letting Go

by Dr. Eman Yasin

GENRE: Non-Fiction, Self-Help, Self-Improvement

We all have undesired addictions we want to let go of. We try and try, but end up failing again and again. But what if the only reason we are going in endless circles of failure is the method we use to let go? Imagine you have access to an effective manual full of mental and practical exercises, the manual that's gonna help you get rid of your bad habits. Who says we don't have one? Now we do . . .

It's the book that changes the chemical reactions in your brain by reprogramming it. It will cause you to let go of whatever harms you spontaneously, just like taking a course of medicine to let you eventually quit your bad habits effortlessly, and, most importantly, enjoyably. It works very effectively, as this book contains a real story for a specific method with defined exercises and calculated steps. The method has been applied to several people, and it cured them completely.

You also will not continue your own addiction unless you think you benefit from it. For example, subconsciously, the smoker believes that the benefits of smoking outweigh the harms.

The goal of the following three exercises is to uncover and identify the benefits of your addiction compared to its harms, and to transfer those from the subconscious to the conscious, so that the addict can see this fallacy clearly and control it.

The scale is represented by Table 5: Value Scale, which contains two columns: In the first column, write the benefits of your addiction discovered through Exercise 7. In the second, write the harms of your addiction discovered through Exercise 8.

Finally, in Exercise 9, we will verify the validity of these benefits that the addict believes in. We will analyze each benefit separately, delete what we find to be false or expired, and keep what we find to be valid. Then, using Exercise 9, we perform a process of comparison, assessing the benefits resulting from your addiction against the harms, and make an honest internal decision based on logic, reason, and evidence that will lead us in the way we want to go. (The examples are tailored to fit smoking because that was my addiction.)

Exercise 7: Perceiving and Assessing the Benefits of Your Addiction

Exercise goal: Identifying the benefits of your addiction (Smoking, as an example).

Exercise time: 15 minutes without interruption.

Exercise requirements: 1. Calm place 2. Pen 3. Print Table 5: Value Scale from the workbook.

Exercise steps:

1. Connect to your soul. Try to reach a relaxed state. Exercise 2 will help you reach that state in case you are facing certain difficulties.

2. The benefits that we are referring to are the motives that previously led us to our addiction. Write the beliefs that we identified earlier in Tables 2 (α) and (β) into the value scale (Table 5) in the first column, the benefits column, as illustrated in the example.

3. Look into your mind. Are there any other motives or benefits you think you are gaining? If the answer is yes, please write them down.

4. When complete, post the value scale on the wall where you can see it. Note: Take out everything in your pocket, as half of the treatment depends on honesty in defining these beliefs, then verifying their validity.
