Dare to Love a Spy

GENRE:  Regency Romance

BLURB:

Miss Hannah Richardson is enjoying a Season in London. She's not looking for a husband, at least not this Season. She wants to enjoy herself before settling down to married life. All that changes, however, when she sees the Duke of Wetherby. He's tall, dark and impossibly handsome and someone Hannah wants to get to know better.

Camden Darkin, the Duke of Wetherby, is not fond of attending soirees, dinners or balls, but his latest mission for the Crown demands he mingle with the ton. He has vowed never to marry because of his dangerous work and the constant bevy of beauties anxious mothers throw into his path is not tempting him in the least. That is, until he meets Hannah Richardson, a young woman unlike any other he's ever met. Can he learn to love or will his hardened heart rob him of the very thing he needs the most.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT ONE:
Seventeen-year-old Hannah Richardson curtsied to her partner before leaving the dance floor. Her cheeks were flushed, and the ringlets of her rich brown hair that had escaped their pins lay wet against her neck. She made her way to the double doors leading to the balcony overlooking her aunt’s gardens and stepped through. She looked around to make sure there were no gentlemen in the vicinity so as to not compromise her reputation. She was hot from dancing and a few moments outside on the balcony couldn’t possibly cause a scandal. She inhaled deeply of the cool night air. Goosebumps rose on her arms from the chill, but she ignored them. She was happy to be out of the stuffy ballroom, if only for a moment or two. Aunt Mary’s gardens were one of her favorite places to visit, and she felt at home and comfortable here. It was her own private sanctuary, and she relished the beauty and peacefulness of the place. A few goose bumps were well worth it for such a sanctuary.
“It’s so lovely here,” she murmured as she stepped off the balcony and wandered down the path while breathing in the exotic smells of the gardens. Her aunt had hired the best and most experienced gardener in London, and no other gardens rivaled the Tisbury Gardens, especially with its many varieties of roses. Hannah bent over one of the more fragrant roses and breathed deeply. When she straightened, she thought she heard voices scattered on the breeze. She looked farther down the path, but the shadows were deep and no one was in sight.
“Who’s there?” she whispered. Perhaps it was a couple seeking privacy. She knew she shouldn’t go snooping, but the thought of seeing who was meeting in secret spurred her down the path.
She looked left and right, but there was no one around. She sighed. There would be no spying on illicit love tonight and it was time to return to the ballroom before her own reputation was compromised. Before she could take another step, an arm circled around her waist and a hand tightened around her throat as she was tugged back against a broad, hard chest.
“Oh!” she cried out in surprise as her heart hammered in fright. A cold, quiet terror unfurled in her chest. She had never been handled so roughly in her life. Who would dare do such a thing, and especially in her aunt’s gardens? What was the meaning of this?
“You must be careful not to walk alone at night, Miss Richardson,” a deep, husky voice whispered in her ear.
“What do you want? Unhand me at once,” she demanded, her rising indignation overtaking her original scare.
“To pass along a warning, that is all. Heed my advice,” he said, his hot breath on her neck sending unexpected shivers down her spine.
“How dare you put your hands upon my person?” she asked, trying to dislodge the arm around her waist.
In an instant, the pressure was gone, and she almost felt adrift with the mystery man gone. Hannah whirled around to confront the scoundrel who had accosted her, but there was no one there.
REVIEW:
This book was such a fun, exciting, but super short read!  In just 200 pages you get love, adventure, excitement, mystery, and intrigue!  This book is book three in the Age of Innocence book series.  Although, I haven’t read either book one or book two in this series, this book was still easy to read and understand.  So you don’t have to read them to be able to follow along, but as you will probably find this book to be enjoyable you will also most likely want to check them out too!
The main female character, Hannah Richardson is not interested in finding a husband or settling down anytime soon.  Hannah is looking to have a good time and enjoy life day by day.
The main male character, Camden Darkin, is super handsome, tall, dark, and oh yea he’s a Duke, and a spy!  He, like Hannah is also not interested in marrying or getting tied down.  Even though many women seem to be throwing themselves at him, but he is none the least impressed or interested in something long term.
However, everything completely changes when these two meet.  It is quite funny that the two people who are totally set on not getting into a relationship actually want everything they say they didn’t – with each other.
Although, this story isn’t a totally new concept, I did find this book to be extremely entertaining and a joy to read!
Besides the strong love story plot there is also a murder mystery plot.  I love a good love story, but a murder mystery just added another level and dimension to the story – plus an extra star in this review.  The crazy dangerous adventure scenes made the passion between the two main characters even more intense and on fire.
There is something to be said when you meet that special someone and everything changes.  Things you may not know you wanted or things you never thought were possible until you find that “one.”  I think most people will be able to understand and relate to this.
This book is a true love story that shows you often find love when you are least looking for it.
I think some people will be able to relate to Hannah and others, like me, will totally develop crushes on Camden.  Yes, he has totally been added to my list of book boyfriend’s lol!
All in all, I definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a short, but fun, fast-paced, and entertaining read!  I know I will also be looking into the other books in this book series and other books by Debra!
BLURB:
After Sarah’s grandfather passes away, it’s up to Sarah to pack up a lifetime’s worth of his possessions as she comes to terms with her grief. As she goes through his possessions, she finds a picture. The faded black and white picture seems innocuous at first, but something draws her towards it. As she studies the picture and the man inside it, she forgets her grief momentarily.
However, there’s more to the faded picture of a soldier in 1940s New York than she realizes, and soon she unexpectedly meets him—but he hasn’t aged a day. As they get to know each other, Sarah’s feelings begin to grow…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:

Hours later, a huge crash woke her up and she found herself sitting straight up in her bed. Moving the hair away from her face, she slowly crawled out of bed slowly and tip toed to the door. Before she opened the door, she grabbed the wooden bat gripping it firmly as she opened the door. Cursing under her breath as she hears the door creaking. Seeing a huge shadow in her living room, readying the bat in her hands Sarah swings it. Instead it slips her hands flying across the living room with a resounding ding.

“Grenade!” James shouted as he ducked hoping that his helmet and the object in front of him protected him. He looked again in the dark, why does this object look like a sofa. He huddles down to the ground and waits, but nothing happens. Slowly holding onto his helmet, he gets on his hands and knees only to be confronted by yellow eyes and a wet nose. It swipes and hisses at him, a cat! James falls back and hits a table, knocking a lamp into the floor. He turns around and sees it in pieces.

Cursing under her breath and no time to call the cops, Sarah charged at him in full speed. Jumping on him and punching him in the face. “Who the hell are you and why are you in my home?” Sarah yelled at the tops of her lungs. Blinking, James took a second after the punch to recover to look at his attacker. Who was this woman and where was he?

Grabbing her hands and holding back from his face, “I was fighting Nazis five minutes ago and now I’m. Where the hell am I lady?”

“You are in New York and how would you be fighting Nazi’s? It’s 2013 and I know Nazi’s still exist but not in the form you’re talking about. You got the wrong house buddy, so I suggest you get up and leave,” Sarah said getting up and walking away from him to compose herself. Why did he look so familiar? She found a good lamp, praying that it would turn on and it did. She could see this man a bit better. He looked like someone who came out of a convention.

James composing himself the best he could, stood up and could see all around him. He went from the battlefield and suddenly was in a place that looked like something out of one of those science fiction books he read.  “This is some kind of joke,” he said standing up and looking around him, in a trance like he was in a dream. “This is all a dream and I’m going to wake up.”

GUEST POST:

The Top Three People Dead or Alive That I've Always Wanted to Meet

All three of these people I would love to have over for a dinner. Just sit all together and have a conversation about everything I listed below. Each individual is so complex and interesting. I would love to see what they thought about certain things in their time along with what they thought about the world today.

Howard Carter

Howard Carter is the man who found King Tut in the early 1900's. I love archaeology so I've always wanted to meet him to learn more about the Egyptians. He's had so information and was such an interesting person. He never married and lived in Egypt. There are so many questions that I would love to ask him about Egypt and what drove him.

James Dean

What's there not to like about James Dean? He's such an iconic actor and an interesting person as well. I would love to ask him about his roles and his inspiration. From the biographies and books I've read, he was such a compassionate and opinionated person.

Steve Jobs

I worked for Apple for several years and never got to meet the man. I just wanted to ask so much about what made him think of some of the greatest inventions he has helped create.

BLURB:

October starts out warm and sunny, but this is the month when everything changes. Mornings grow frosty, leaves change colors, and the breeze takes on a bite.

Summer dies.

It’s a time for harvest celebrations. A boy loans a girl his coat. She snuggles a little closer and takes his hand. A riot of autumn splendor accompanies the farmer’s market where they stroll.

But the vibrancy of daylight doesn’t compare to the darkness of night. Is that chill on your neck the breeze or something else?

October night

You walk a tad faster and look over your shoulder. The trees creak when the wind whips through their branches—at least, you hope that noise came from the undulating bows.

You check under the bed and inside the closet before climbing under the covers. Sleep doesn’t come easy. The old house groans its complaints, and the night magnifies every innocuous noise until terror paralyzes you—because you know nefarious things go bump in the night.

Welcome to the

Paranormal Bar & Grille Blog Tour

…where you can rub elbows with everyone from a gargoyle or vampire, to a creature from urban legend, or the ghostly realms of myth. Step up to the bar, grab a booth. You never know what’s on the menu, or if you might end up there yourself.

Sound like your kind of hangout? Then you’ve come to the right place. We’re a group of five authors who love nothing more than to trigger the chill that crawls up your back, the nervous glance tossed over your shoulder. We invite you to discover outstanding books and check out our awesome tour prizes.

Just be careful of what the bartender serves you. That heady brew may not be a beer, and witches can’t be trusted to provide effective antidotes.

EXCERPT FIVE FROM LOVE SET IN STONE:

He gasped but only succeeded in inhaling thick embers. “I hate it when you do that to me, Anael. What the hell?”

“Not what, Damien,” Anael said. “Where. It’s against the rules, but you needed to see.”

“Hell.”

“The first level.”

Damien choked on clouds of brimstone and looked around. Bodies hung on racks, some scourged by demonic creatures wielding whips of fire, others stretched until their limbs tore off only to reassemble and stretch again. Some souls were skinned and devoured, the torment cyclical, never-ending. Giant beasts with nine-inch claws and twelve-inch teeth tore people into bloody shreds. They gnawed on the bones of writhing beings, snarling and snapping at anything near them.

There was no blessed retreat into unconsciousness or death. This was their other side, their ever-after, their eternity. The tormented endured each torture, alert and unprotected. Impossibly hot gusts of wind howled through the cavern, tossing the departed from one horror to the next. And the maniacal screeches of the tormentors were only overpowered by the anguished wails of the damned.

“I’ve seen enough.” Damien’s words were barely intelligible through his coughing and wheezing.

“Are you certain? This is only the first level. The second level hosts souls feeding on their own entrails, or having a myriad of sexual violations forced upon them. Rape. Sodomy. Bestiality. And then there’s—”

Damien clutched Anael’s arm. “Enough!”

“Do you understand now?”

Damien looked up and howled, his throat burning, his voice mingling into the sounds of all the other lost souls, an agonizing dirge melodic only to Satan himself.

When he thought the devil’s name, the most sinister laugh echoed through the cavern, a shadow given voice and power. It sent chills down his burning spine. The demons cheered, their victims cowered, and Damien cringed, seeking escape that would only be denied him.

AUTHOR BIOS & LINKS:

CRAIG BOYACK

Just a fiction writer, trying to reach the world.

BIO:

Craig came to fiction writing later in life than most authors. He always had to write, to one degree or another as part of various jobs. Early one winter morning, he conquered the Internet and didn’t feel like shoveling the sidewalk until the
sun came up. He tried a few pages of fiction and got hooked.

Craig doesn’t like limitations and calls himself a writer of speculative fiction. It’s a broad field, but he limits himself to science fiction, paranormal, and a bit of fantasy.

He has eight published works—six novels and two collections of short stories.

Quirky fact I don’t want anyone to know:
(or maybe I do)….I saw a UFO when I was six. Probably why I write some of the stuff I do.
~ooOOoo~

BIO:

They say everyone has a story to tell.

I wrote my first childish “masterpiece” at six and was immediately bitten by the writing bug. Since then, I’ve been composing nonstop, and have dabbled in multiple genres over the years, writing everything from fantasy, westerns, and horror to inspirational fiction, romance, and sci-fi. It took me a while to find my niche, but I’ve settled comfortably into the mystery/suspense genre (with a just a dash of romance tossed in).

Several of my earlier works have strong romantic themes, but all are infused with threads of mystery. I have a passion for folklore, myth, and urban legends and that attraction often factors into my writing. You’ll find threads of archaic tales and mysterious places woven throughout many of my novels.

I am a member of the International Thriller Writers and a past president of the Central Pennsylvania Writer’s Organization. If I’m not camped out at my keyboard or have my nose buried in a book, I’m likely looking up blurry images of cryptids on Google, sorting through vintage photographs or imagining life as a cat.
