BLURB:
The
fireworks are about to begin as the sexual adventure of Rachel and Burt Markham
continues. Small business owners and happily married couple of 20+ years, they
live in the small town of Four Corners, Kansas. The year before, with the
permission and encouragement of her husband, Rachel had the freedom to explore
the depth of her sensuality through having her first Bull. After saying
farewell to her Bull, Rachel and Burt settle back into the routine of small
town life. Then, African-American frustrated artist and new fireworks territory
sales manager Horus Grant arrives in Four Corners. He is searching for new
sales territory for the Missouri-based company and wants to open a fireworks
stand next to Rachel and Burt’s seed and feed store. Outwardly friendly and
personable, he is plagued by hidden demons. Though based in near-by Wichita,
Horus finds himself returning to Four Corners again and again, and not because
of the fireworks stand. Rachel is also drawn to him and soon realizes she may
hold the key to Horus’s slim chance of defeating his demons, of healing, and
learning to live again.

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:
The
naked, husky black man passed out on the couch twisted as a muffled groan came
from the face buried in a corner of the back and seat cushion. A tremor ran
through a muscular tattooed arm hanging over the edge of a cushion and thick
fingers jerked spasmodically. Another groan came from the buried face.
“Nooo,”
a deep voice gasped. “Nooo. Not again.”
Horus
Charles Grant lifted his head and took deep, shuddering breaths. He tried to
turn over but couldn’t. His arms and legs were heavy and unresponsive to the
alcohol-blurred commands from his brain. He lay his head on the cushion. His
stomach was churning and he wanted to vomit.
“No,”
he whispered. “No!”
Swollen
eyelids fluttered. A pale bluish glow pierced the static-filled darkness. Blood
shot eyes so red they might have been bleeding stared into the bluish-tinged
darkness.
It
was the same, always the same.
For
years the dreams never varied—jerky slow motion dreams like an old-time hand
cranked movie that sped up and screeched to a stop, became slow motion, and
froze again. Sometimes he heard everything, sometimes there was silence.
Horus
whimpered as he stared into the blue-tinged darkness. Stare not into the abyss
for the abyss stares into you.
A
rapid stopwatch ticking came from the abyss.
Tick
tick tick…
A
little girl looked up at him, grinned and held her arms out for him to pick her
up. He tried but she grew up—she was too big to pick up…
