Kiss Horse
“I should not be drinking spirits as I shall need all my wits where you are concerned.” She looked up when he remained silent. “Why are you staring at my mouth?”
A good question.
“Jack?”
’Twouldn’t do to tell her he should like to sip some sherry too—from her lips or anyplace else she’d allow him to pour it. “You feared me when we first met.”
“You gave me good reason.”
“I?” Jack flattened a hand over his chest. “I risked my life for you.”
“Spare me the knight in shining armor drivel. My rescue was not your purpose—though a benefit, to be sure.”
“’Tis grossly unfair of you, madam. Do forgive me for arriving on a ship instead of a white charger—”
“A horse wouldn’t have you, sir.”
“—to rescue your pretty hide—”
“Then proceeded to accost me.”
“—and kissed you for your own protection.”
Scorn flashed in her eyes. He much preferred an angry Celia over a despondent one. This one was much more fun. “Protection? Bah. You stole the prize from under their noses and flaunted me before them.”
“Would you rather I had left you?”
“No.” ’Twas more of a reaction than a reply, rather like a grunt.
Fomenting her annoyance was unwise, but Jack could not resist. He touched her elbow and lowered his voice to a sultry rumble. “Shall I kiss you again? A kiss befitting a gallant knight?”
She snorted. “I should rather kiss your horse.”

MY BOOK REVIEW:
This book, “The Dangers of Loving a Rogue,” is an intriguing, thrilling, historical romance filled with pirates, treasure hunts, swordfights, and a deadly hurricane!!
This book is full of exciting and dangerous adventures that keeps the reader fully engaged through the last page!!
This book follows main character, Celia, a spirited 17-year-old longing for an adventure. When Celia learns of her dear Aunt Maggie’s Cancer diagnosis and her ailing health with less than a year to live, she begs her parents for the chance to go visit Aunt Maggie in Bermuda before it’s too late. After months spent tending to Aunt Maggie and staying with her until the very end, Celia is ready to return back home, however, Celia’s simple trek back to England is about to be anything but, when her ship, the Essex, is attacked by pirates.
This book follows main character, Jack, a handsome, flirtatious, swoon worthy hero, who recently obtained a coveted map and now is on a treasure hunt for emeralds. Jack hasn’t had the best of luck with his finances which includes a rotting house and a damaged ship, but finding this hidden fortune could be the answer to solving all those problems. But before he can track down the treasure, he happens upon the Essex in distress and bravely boards the ship battling the pirates and rescuing Celia.
Celia is quickly infatuated with her hero hunk, and while Celia is already betrothed to her best friend, Brett back home, she can’t help but find herself attracted to Jack. Celia is unsure about her strong feelings for her rescuer, that continue to grow each day. Will Celia be able to put aside her feelings for Jack? Or will she finally cross that forbidden line? Could this be the adventure Celia has longed for?
I really liked the main characters, Celia and Jack. Celia is smart, feisty, headstrong, stubborn, but also caring and kindhearted. Jack is charming, charismatic, alluring, and seductive. I really enjoyed their fiery chemistry!! Their passion leaped off the page and you couldn’t help but find yourself completely enthralled in their enticingly forbidden (and complicated) relationship.
There are some predictable scenes. However, there are still a few unexpected twists and turns that you won’t see coming!
I love the in-depth amount of research Black did while constructing this book. It is clear that she is very familiar and well-versed in the history of the 18th century – the Age of Enlightenment, the Great Hurricane of 1752, Charles Town, and the Golden Age of Piracy. Black’s writing felt accurate and realistic and truly added to the credibility of the story. Therefore, also allowing the reader to be whisked away to another time period, and more importantly to be able to stay fully immersed into the story.
This eBook is 404 pages cover-to-cover, with 389 pages devoted to story line across 26 chapters plus a prologue and epilogue. While on the longer side, although appropriately so to account for historical and worldbuilding content, this book does read quite fast, as I found myself quickly flipping through the pages.
Currently it seems this book in not part of a book series. Therefore, this book can easily be read as a standalone.
For readers that like neat and tidy endings, this book’s HEA is tied up with a bow and is sure to leave readers completely satisfied.
All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it!! I think all historical romance readers and pirate book fans will be sure to like this book too!! So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading – you won’t be disappointed!!
