“Reading up on me, huh?” His brow arched, and cool blue eyes flashed.

“I just happened to scan the latest issue of Business USA on the plane. Coincidently, you were featured.” I didn’t tell him that my boss had suggested it as required reading after I mentioned his name.

His smile seemed to ooze satisfaction. I had no tolerance for arrogance and didn’t have time to feed his ego. He had better not be another Ron Briar—entitled, rude, and demanding. Two at the same time might just push me over the edge. I stood, indicating our meeting was over despite not receiving an answer to my question about his motives in purchasing the Wylder Hotel.

But he continued to sit, his eyes locking on mine. “I want you to work on this project, not Bryce. He’s a good guy, but he doesn’t have the experience needed to represent me or my business interests. There are several contracts I sent over here for review, and I haven’t heard a word.”

Appeasing him was going to be harder than I’d imagined. “I’ll be here to help him with any questions he has.” I’d also find out from Bryce why he wasn’t getting the work done for a major client.

“I’ve been very patient, knowing how difficult it’s been with your father’s passing. But Bryce is more of a litigator, and that’s not what I need. I know you work on huge real estate deals in San Francisco. I’m sure my needs will be easy for you to handle. If you tell me you don’t have time, then I’ll look for new representation.” Gone was the half-hearted smile and in its place a hard jaw tensing with displeasure.
