BLURB:
My Mummy After Our Baby: A Journey Of Hope and Healing is a beautifully written and illustrated story, about the reality of post-natal depression setting in after the birth of their perfect little baby.
It is a gentle, soft, perfectly put together story, filled with an abundance of emotion and heart to explain what is happening at home, for all children who may be feeling lost and confused about what is happening to their Mummy after becoming unwell.
It is written by a mother who experienced this twice herself and vowed to create a beautiful explanation and tool, in order to provide hope, solace and strength for other families, that she wished was available for her children.
This beautiful book is written in the hope of educating, as well as to be a connective and bonding tool, at a time when a family needs it the most. It is gently and eloquently written, with the most amazing illustrations, that will form the basis of a vital healing tool in the home of everyone who is going through this harrowing chapter.
The author has brought the prospect of hope in a perfect package here and is her gift to you and your family, to navigate through this chapter with as much peace and lightness as possible.

EXCERPT ONE:
Once upon a time in a far-away town called Knocksville, there lived a little boy called Aydan. He was a very kind, fun, smart and sweet boy full of so much energy and brightness!
Aydan made friends with everyone that he met and he was always the bright spark in every room that he walked into.
Aydan lived with his Mummy and Daddy and they loved spending time together. They played golf, loved going to the beach or running around the park with their little doggy Rupert.
Every day felt like it was filled with so much joy and happiness.
Every night they always shared turns in saying three things that they were thankful for.
Most nights, Aydan would say that he was thankful for food in his tummy, a roof over his head and for having a family who loved and cared for him as much as all of the stars in the sky.
This always made his Mummy’s heart shine brighter, grow bigger and she would hold him tight until he fell asleep.

GUEST POST:
My Favorite Scene in This Book…
I wrote this children’s book as a resource that I wished our family had access to, when I fell to my knees with postnatal depression.
We had a beautiful 4-year-old son Ari, and were all so excited to welcome our second son Kaiyaan (meaning the universe) into the world. Yet, on day 5 after giving birth, I fell into the darkest and most gut-wrenching postnatal depression…which completely rocked our world and it felt like our whole life was crumbling apart.
I
wrote this book as a way to gently explain what is happening within the home,
in a soft, beautiful and emotive way. I wanted to help bring some lightness,
hope and beautiful optimism into the hearts of everyone within the home…and the
strength to keep holding on.
We felt so alone in our journey. This book was birthed so that all other families no longer need to suffer in silence and isolation as we did…and to utilise this resource as a source of explanation and connection between parent and child.
This story is an exact portrayal of our experience and what our family went through. It goes through my excitement during pregnancy, a beautiful birth, the tremendous fall into depression…and also the walk towards recovery…and the amazing life and light that returned to me and within the home upon my recovery.
My absolute favourite scene, is the one, where Aydan (my Ari) crawls into bed with me, the morning that I ‘sparked back to life’ as I call it. He came after I had slept for the first time in 11 weeks, and sang me a beautiful Noongar (Indigenous song) that Ari had learned at school and performed at a Mother’s Day event just a few months earlier.
He came and held me, and sang ‘Baby you are my heart…Baby you are my heart…Baby you are my heart…you are my star, my love, my life’.
This actually happened the moment that I had returned, and I remember holding him as if I had never felt him before, with warm tears streaming down my face. I was filled with so much joy, relief, connection and love for this beautiful boy!
He somehow knew that I had returned in that moment, without me saying a word!
I get goose bumps writing about it now…because the power in that moment, is something that I will never ever forget.
It is symbolic of his power of love, that never gave up hope for me, that never gave up his unconditional love for me.
The road was difficult for all of us, but Aydan (my Ari), gave me reason to keep fighting another day! He gave me my ‘WHY’, and I fought every day to walk towards my recovery…and when I had arrived, he was right there waiting for me.
That moment felt divine. It felt so unbelievably sacred and I liken it to a moment of an awakening of some sort.
He saw and felt me in that moment, and I felt the connection to all of life and joy in that moment also.
His unconditional love, makes him my hero and the favourite character in this book!
I want his character to touch the hearts of other small children who may be feeling so hurt and lost with their mother falling ill. Yet, I want to shout the message of HOPE from the rooftops, that she WILL get better and to keep holding on for the light to return.
For when it does, it will shine in abundance and they will feel a connection, bond, joy and love like never before.
This is my hope for writing this book…and I hope that it reaches the hearts and homes of all those people who need to hear this.
The silver lining of our suffering.
