GENRE: Western Contemporary Romance

BLURB:

Ten years after the death of her husband and young son, Marie Trousdale decides to move from Los Angeles, California to a small rural Oregon town and hires Wil Townsend, a local contractor, to build her dream home on property she inherited from her deceased husband.

Although they couldn’t be more different in every way possible the two fall in love. Things get complicated when Marie changes occupations. When she is put in danger, Wil must decide if his love is stronger than the differences that separate him from Marie.

EXCERPT TWO:

It had been a long time since Marie had been held in the arms of a man. His strong embrace warmed her like a safe and secure blanket. She believed him. It would be alright. She didn’t know how or when. But she knew in her heart that one day, it would be. She was so close to him that she could smell his manliness. It was a mixture of pine and sweat and horses. It was a fragrance both new and exciting to her. He was surprisingly gentle as he pushed her hair away from her tearstained face. After a few minutes, she stopped crying. Wil held her face in his hand and turned it up to his.

“Feel better?” he asked tenderly.

“Yes, thank you,” she replied meekly. “I’m sorry. I’m not usually so emotional around strangers.”

“No,” he said sincerely. “I’m the one that’s sorry. I’ve been ridin’ you pretty hard.”

She looked deep into his eyes. He really means it, she thought. For a moment, she lost herself in his intense gaze. They were so close that she could feel his heart beating in his chest. She felt the urge to kiss his lips. She wondered if he could feel the electricity of the moment. She hoped he could. She closed her eyes and waited.

GUEST POST:

The Character I Identify Most With

It could be because it was my first book, but I relate most with my lead character, Marie Trousdale, in Totally Devoted. I gave her many of my own physical and personal characteristics. I am not now or ever been a glamour girl. I’ve always felt just adequate compared to everyone else, including my friends. I’m not blonde. Brunette’s Rule! Although it seems lately that there’s a battle going on between the Grey’s and the Brown’s and I’m afraid the Grey’s are winning.

I’m not very good with make-up. Actually I’m too lazy, busy, really don’t care, I’ve got too many other things to do than put that stuff on my face. Luckily I’ve been blessed with good genes and don’t need much. With a little common sense beauty care I manage to look presentable most of the time. Marie shares this opinion and in the book is dependent on her sister to help her use make-up to hide her true identity.

I’m hard headed, stubborn, determined, bossy, and a sometimes bitch. I’ve just described Marie to a T. It’s because of this that Marie and Wil get off to a rough start. But Marie must utilize that determination and attitude to survive when danger enters. In the end it’s what Wil finds the most endearing. That’s not to say that my other female leads are any more meek and mild, but Marie, being my first, will always be my favorite.

The inspiration for Totally Devoted came to me in a dream but the story line visualized in my mind when I was a project manager, in a jet, circling Detroit on my way to spend the weekend with my sister, just as in the opening of my book.

Writing about Marie was a way for me to have an alter ego. I used myself as the basis and embellished Marie with the things she needed to make her even better. We share the same basic philosophy and values. Family and loyalty are important. Best of all she could do anything I dreamed of.

Besides physical attributes, I’ve given Marie some of my own personal habits. I enjoy Yoga and think it has contributed in part to my well being. Marie does Yoga.

I’m a fish eating vegetarian and so is Marie. Being as such for a number of years I’ve gained a vast wealth of anecdotal material and snide remarks directed at me for my culinary choice. Some of which I’ve included in this book.

Once you’ve read the book you’ll find out that both Marie and I love romantic sex.

Some of the situations in Totally Devoted are based on my own life experiences and those of you who know me personally will find them easy to pick out. Those of you who don’t will just have to guess.

Most of all, Marie is a hopeless romantic, and so am I. I love a good cry in a book or movie. I believe in the hope of a happily ever after and I tried to make Marie feel the same. We both can’t live without love. And as it turns out, neither one of us has to.

Before I go, I want to thank my hosts at Fabulous and Brunette for giving the opportunity to tell way-to-much about myself today. I hope I’ve whetted your appetite for Totally Devoted. I also want to thank the readers who make us authors who we are. It’s no fun to have a great story if you can’t share it.
