The Adventures of Penny and Yaya:

EXCERPT THREE:

MY BOOK REVIEW:

This book, "The Adventures of Penny and Yaya: Lost and Found," is a fun, exciting, easy to follow, children's read.

This book follows Yaya in her pursuit of tracking down a beloved toy, her stuff elephant, Fern. Young readers and families will be able to easy relate to this narrative and are sure to find adventure as they help search for Fern.

This book is easy to follow along as young readers join Yaya searching her home and asking her family members for help to locate the missing elephant.

This book is full of bright, colorful illustrations that are sure to keep young readers fully engaged.

This book is ideal for bedtime story time and as a learning to read to book. At the end of the book is a short questionnaire of five questions related to the story. Some of these questions include: "What is the name of Yaya's stuff elephant?" and "How many places did Yaya look for Fern?" These questions are a great way to test young readers about what they just read or was read aloud to them. Young readers should be able to recall the answers, but the story is short enough that it can be quickly reread to identify the answers.

This book is a super quick read at 22 eBook pages cover-to-cover and filled with 8 pages of text and 8 pages of illustrations.

This book is appropriately “G” rated as there is no swearing, no gory violence, no adult situations, and no sexual content.

I also want to point out the inclusive and diversity elements this book includes as it features a multiracial family. Multiracial families are often unrepresented, so this book is refreshing to support them, especially as there are over seven million families in the United States that identify as mixed-race (AAMFT, https://www.aamft.org/AAMFT/Consumer_Updates/Multiracial_Families.aspx).

This book is Book One of The Adventures of Penny and Yaya Book Series and what seems to be a promising new book series coming soon.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend it!!  I think all young readers and their families will like this book too!!  So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading - you won't be disappointed!!

Dr. Arabella Stanton is back in Havenbrook, California, seeking a break from her work with Doctors Without Borders. Exhausted and haunted by memories of the refugee camps, she finds solace in the familiar yet changed landscape of her grandmother’s old town. She plans to rest, recuperate, and plan out her next steps—until a persistent knock at her door changes everything.

Garret de la Rosa, a Navy SEAL with his own shadows from missions past, is back in Havenbrook to recover and find some peace. When a mutual friend brings Arabella to his door, he’s bleeding from an injury, and neither expects the connection that sparks between them.

As Arabella and Garret navigate their growing attraction, they also face their personal demons and the reality that their lives are on different paths. Amidst the tranquil beauty of Havenbrook, they find themselves questioning their futures and what they truly want.

EXCERPT ONE:

“You’re bleeding,” Arabella said and lifted his shirt. “You really shouldn’t say no.” She looked at the bandage and lifted the edges. Probably pulled stiches. “Please remove your shirt.”

Garret’s sinful stare met hers. “Usually there’s a second date before we get that far.”

“God, these two have the same sense of humor,” Tristan muttered.

Garret flashed her a grin but complied. She kept her cool doctorial composure as he lifted the gray material over his head and didn’t stare.

“When I’m working, I don’t have a sense of humor,” she shot back and examined the area. “Sit down,” she ordered Garret.

He did so without a word and she peeled back the bandage. Bandages. Plural. It looked as if a doctor taped one gauze over Garret’s stitches, then Garret added another layer. No, he added two layers.

Arabella was mildly surprised he hadn’t used duct tape.

“Yeah, popped a few stitches. I’ll need to close it up.” She gathered her supplies, the suture and thread. “So, can you tell me how you got that?” Arabella nodded to his side. “Or is this a case of ‘If I tell you, I’ll have to lock you up in a dungeon?”

His lips quirked in a sexy little half-grin, and his eyes sparkled with laughter. “It’s the dungeon.”

It sent a thrill of arousal through her, and her heart tripped over itself. She thought she’d imagined it earlier, but it seemed she hadn’t, even she knew when a man was interested in her. Slightly unnerved, Arabella wondered why a SEAL, a man who looked like Garret, would be interested in her.

The Secret Truth by Barry Finlay - Book Tour - Book Blast - Giveaway - Enter Daily!

This post is part of a virtual book tour organized by Goddess Fish Promotions. Barry Finlay will be awarding a $20 Amazon OR Barnes and Noble (Winner's Choice!!!) Gift Card to a randomly drawn winner. Click on the tour banner to see the other stops on the tour.

Retired investigative journalist Jake Scott narrowly avoids a collision with a speeding car on his way to a Bed and Breakfast where he plans to spend the night. Moments before his arrival, the peaceful atmosphere at the B&B is shattered by a devastating explosion, claiming the lives of five guests. While authorities initially chalk it up to a tragic gas leak, seasoned homicide detective Dani Perez can't shake her suspicions. Given her overloaded schedule, she enlists Jake's expertise to delve into the backgrounds of the deceased. As Jake pursues the investigation, he unearths a web of secrets hinting at a darker truth lurking beneath the surface of the seemingly idyllic B&B.

EXCERPT TWO:

Ground trembled under Jake’s feet, and streetlights and trees rocked as if a sudden fierce wind grabbed them by the throat and shook. The entire street shimmied for interminable seconds, and the pavement seemed to heave toward the heavens as if from an earthquake before settling back to earth. The sound of the blast echoed off the surrounding houses, and a car siren bleated nonstop. Jake’s muscles wound themselves into knots for the second time in minutes. Goosebumps popped on his arms and the back of his neck, and his stomach twisted. Once again, his gym bag thudded to the ground from his unclenched fist as fiery roofing materials rained down onto the street and the cars in the B&B’s driveway. As Jake’s mouth hung open, a tree in front of the house burst into flames.

For the second time, instinct took over. People lived in that house! Jake shook himself from the shock gripping his body and leaned forward to rummage through his gym bag for his phone. He unzipped one end of his bag but located only his running shoes. He tossed the now bloody towel into the bag and fumbled with the zipper at the other end, hands shaking until he brushed against what he looked for. His heart sank when he held his phone in the brightness of the overhead streetlight to reveal a jagged crack snaking across the length of the screen. It must have cracked when the bag flew out of his hands during his earlier dive for safety.

Scales and Stingers by K. M. Warfield - Book Tour - Guest Post - Giveaway - Enter Daily!

Scales and Stingers
Heroes of Avoch Series

Book One

by K. M. Warfield

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:  Fantasy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BOOK BLURB:

Thia Bransdottir is shunned for being half Fallen, a race feared by many. She tries to disguise her lineage, but her lilac eyes make it impossible. When her Father is killed, she is taken to the cloister to be a servant of her faith. Jinaari Althir is sworn to protect Thia from the disgraced half of her heritage. Under his holy vows, he must keep others from killing her for their prejudice and using her for her power. He must succeed, there is no room for failure. Trust for someone like Thia is difficult.

Jinaari may say he is there to protect her, but can he truly do his best when he knows she is of the Fallen? Will Thia stay safe in order to fulfill her purpose or is she fated to die for her origins?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT THREE:
“Are you sure about her?” Adam’s voice was low, but she could hear him easily.
“Garret and Keroys both are. The priest said she was the best they had. She healed me at one point.”
“What happened?”
“Alesso got a cheap shot.”
“I don’t know, Jinaari. She’s Fallen. They’re not known for holding to laws or vows.”
“She’s also human, Adam. On our way here, we got jumped by a pack of Dangreth. She turned them into ash faster than I could blink.” There was admiration in his voice. “I only took out two . . . she took out ten. Keroys instilled his hatred of the undead in her. She asked if we’d be encountering more in Tanisal. I think she’s looking forward to wiping the city clean of anything evil.”
“Where’s she from? Humans and the Fallen rarely interact, let alone mate.”
“Ask her.”
“Don’t you know?” Adam asked.
“I do,” Jinaari paused, “and she trusted me enough to give me an answer. I’m not going to betray that. I don’t think she told me everything, not yet. Her life this far hasn’t been easy, even at the cloister. Trust isn’t something that she blindly gives. You gotta earn it. Garret said I had to keep her safe. From what, I don’t know. But I made a vow to him and Keroys to do that.” He paused. “She’s not like what Alesso and his kind think, Adam. She takes after her human side. As long as you show you’re okay with her heritage, trust her, she’ll come around. And she’s damn good at magic.”
GUEST POST:
My Favorite Scene
I'm a sucker for a good character driven story. Where it's less about events and more about how the characters react to them. I want to read books where the character grows, changes, evolves. That's not to say there's anything wrong with a plot driven narrative. One of the best things about reading is that there's as many styles out there as there are readers, and we can enjoy what we love.
I grew up reading David & Leigh Eddings, mainly The Belgariad and Mallorean series. The writing made me see the characters as human. There wasn't the 'I'm the hero so I shall do this!' speech. Rather, the main character dared ask, 'Why me?". The same held true with Patricia Kennelly - Morrison and her Keltia books. There's a part in one book, where she's taken on the Authurian saga, that made me cry. Why? Because the characters felt real.
With the Heroes of Avoch series, I strove for that connection between the characters and the reader. I gave them flaws that were relatable, tried to capture the special flow of conversations that happen between dear friends. Ones that become our family, and accept us for who we are and not who they think we should be. There's a cadence to it that's laden with inside jokes that don't necessarily need to be explained. For example, at one point Jinaari makes a comment about how he hates walking around in wet socks. It becomes a running joke that's brought up throughout the series.
One of my favorite scenes is one that demonstrates that actions have consequences. There's someone who does something that readers can relate to. The reason behind it, his motivation, is completely understandable. You can't fault him for it. What he does to get what he wants, however.... that's another story. Those actions have consequences he doesn't anticipate. He doesn't see any problems with it. His God, his fellow paladins, even his mother, all do. And it's the moment when he's taken from elation for completing this noble goal to losing everything because of it that I love.
A fellow author, Sean R. Frazier, made mention that it was one of the best punches he's ever read. High praise that made me smile for days!
Did it stop with a single punch? No. That was, admittedly, the only physical price that he paid. The rest was far more consequential.
Want to know what happened? Get a copy of 'Scales and Stingers' and find out.
Lesser Known Travel Tips Series by Yeats - Book Tour - Guest Post - Giveaway - Enter Daily!
Lesser Known Travel Tips Series
Books 1 - 3
by Simon Yeats
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE:   Humor / Memoir

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BOOK SERIES BLURB:
The Lesser Known Travel Tips memoirs are a hilarious series of travel misadventures and dubious personal introspection by Australian author Simon Yeats, who from an early age learned that the best way to approach the misfortunes of this world is to laugh about them.
Simon shares his comedic insights into the unusual and uproarious elements of living life as an Aussie ex-pat and having a sense of Wanderlust as pervasive as the Spanish Flu in 1918 or hordes of Mongols in 12th Century.
From how to keep yourself entertained when unwittingly forced to watch 11 hours of live sumo wrestling in Japan, to surviving heartbreak in India at the hands of a French flight attendant, to 48 hours spent in Nepal that qualify as the funniest most gut wrenching travel experience since Captain Bligh was set adrift in the Pacific, to his unsuccessful attempts at avoiding going to a brothel in Thailand. From what to do when several people converge to rob you after midnight on a deserted Copacabana Beach, to how to save the Sierra Mountain Range from a wildfire outbreak due to a lack of quality toilet paper, to where not to go in Tijuana when trying to locate the origins to stories of the city’s mythical adult entertainment, to how to save yourself from drowning when caught in a storm while sailing off the California coast. From how to outwit the Italian police while trying to find parking in downtown Genoa, to how to negotiate exploring the Roman ruins of Plovdiv, Bulgaria while on crutches, to how to impress the German Mafia with 80s dance moves, to how to leave a lasting impression on a crowded bar in Gothenburg, Sweden after combining alcohol and antibiotics.
Simon Yeats has gone into the world and experienced all the out of the ordinary moments for you to sit back and enjoy the experience without the need to break a leg, contract Dengue fever, or rupture a pancreas.
EXCERPT FIVE:
From How to Survive Making Yourself Look Silly While Dancing with the German Mafia at a Bavarian Nightclub and Other Lesser Known Travel Tips - Book Three
British Airways flight BA114 from JFK to London Heathrow landed on time at 9.20am on Friday, March 14th.
Kid in candy store meets the ultimate sugar rush.
Twenty-nine years, 351 days after I was born, I finally step foot in the country that gave humanity the names of every square on the Monopoly board. If my doctor was worried about my impulsive behavior being a sign of ADHD when I was five, then the entire medical fraternity would be absolutely perturbed seeing the level of hyperactivity I have walking through Heathrow customs at age 29 years and 351 days.
Children would not get this excited waiting to be served a stick of cotton candy at the state fair after snorting cocaine.
But today is what life is all about. Moments of pure joy like this.
I walk out of the arrivals gate and am greeted by a mass of people in thick overcoats, gloves, and parkas. I am in shorts. The weather in New York had been unseasonably warm, such that I felt comfortable enough wearing shorts to go to the airport. The weather in London was the same. Brisk but not freezing. And I have so much energy just from the exhilaration of being here that I am sweating. Everyone stares at me like I am Taylor Swift, wearing a scuba mask, while breastfeeding a baby in public.
My good mates Sheilds and Jim are at the airport to pick me up. They have no trouble picking me out of the crowd. I look like I am on a pogo stick bouncing along inside the steady stream of travelers who are not anywhere near as thrilled as I am to be here.
Sheilds’ eyes go as wide as saucers when she sees what I am wearing.
“Why on earth are you in shorts?”
“Can we drive past Big Ben on the way to your home?”
“Don’t you think you will be cold?”
“Is there a fish and chip shop close by, where we can get some fish and chips wrapped in newspaper?”
“It is chilly outside.”
“What are we going to see first? Trafalgar Square? Piccadilly Circus? Euston Road?”
“Don’t you have any warm clothes?”
“How long would it take us to drive to Loch Ness?”
The entire drive from the airport to Putney, they could not understand why I was not shivering with cold. I could not understand why they were not jumping out of their skin with excitement we were in London.
GUEST POST:
Background of the Lesser Known Travel Tips Book Series
My book series Lesser Known Travel Tips is all about discovering everything a person would want to find out about themselves and the world through traveling and from the spectacular disasters that can happen when away from home and then how to frame those failures in a positive light so that on your return home the slide night doesn’t turn into a real downer for all your guests. (For younger readers, slide night is what people used to do in the 70’s and 80’s after they came home from a vacation and they would show slides to all their friends who would come to the house.)
I have had my fair share of spectacular debacles while traveling and living abroad and I carry them like a badge of honor. Everyone has been to the Eiffel Tower, but how many people go to the Eiffel Tower and end up enraging a group of scam artists trying to bilk naïve tourists out of their money by playing a rigged game of find the ball under the cup? Is it my fault that I know how they are cheating and loudly exclaim it to the group of spectators who have amassed around them? That was a community service. Most people would just stay silent and be embarrassed to speak up. I used to be like that as well. But the experiences that a person has when traveling will change them for the better, always for the better, and that is the purpose of the book series. To show people it is okay to be afraid of the world but to get out there and see it, anyway. It is okay to be a fish out of water, we all are, but if you keep your eyes and ears open and your head down, you will more than probably end up with an enthralling story or two to tell your guests on slide night that will make them more considerate of the fact you opted for the much cheaper wine option at the store that you are now serving them.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

AUTHOR BIO:

Simon Yeats has lived nine lives, and by all estimations, is fast running out of the number he has left. His life of globetrotting the globe was not the one he expected to lead. He grew up a quiet, shy boy teased by other kids on the playgrounds for his red hair. But he developed a keen wit and sense of humor to always see the funnier side of life.

With an overwhelming love of travel, a propensity to find trouble where there was none, and being a passionate advocate of mental health, Simon’s stories will leave a reader either rolling on the floor in tears of laughter, or breathing deeply that the adventures he has led were survived.

No author has laughed longer or cried with less restraint at the travails of life.
