Language is no longer learned, but streamed to neural implants regulated by lang-laws. Those who can’t afford monthly language streaming services are feral, living on the fringes of society. Big tech corporations control language, the world’s most valuable commodity.
But when a massive cyberattack causes a global language outage, catastrophe looms.
Europol detective Emyr Morgan is assigned to the case. Suspect number one is Professor Ebba Black, the last native speaker of language in the automated world, and leader of the Babel cyberterrorist organization. But Emyr soon learns that in a world of corporate power, where those who control language control everything, all is not as it seems. After all, if the mysterious Ebba Black is to blame, why is the Russian Federation being framed for an outage it claims no responsibility for? And why is Ebba now a target for assassination?
As he and Ebba collide, Emyr faces an existential dilemma between loyalty and betrayal, when everything he once believed in is called into question. To prevent the imminent collapse of civilization and a deadly war between the great federations, he must figure out friend from foe—his life depends on it.
And with the odds stacked against him, he must find a way to stop the Babel Apocalypse.

EXCERPT THREE:
As I was about to glance back at the voices, a light flickered in my peripheral vision, drawing my gaze upward to the night sky. A soft white glow, high up in the dark. At first it was indistinguishable from the airway lights. But it persisted, the size of a small disk at first, before shifting to red-orange, getting larger. At that point I realized it definitely couldn’t be a hover car. This was farther up, probably low Earth orbit, which explained the initial white. But the shift in coloration—that meant a detonation, producing nitrogen dioxide, which turned deep orange when mixed with air. A gaseous cloud has reached the atmosphere, I thought. I was witnessing a chemical explosion in space large enough to be visible to the naked eye. But what was exploding?
As I continued looking up, the orange grew in intensity until it flared across the skyline, illuminating the entire landscape around me with an eerie red-orange. It was only then that I became aware of the newly hushed silence of the drunken revelers nearby. And the silhouettes of other people too, who had also stopped and peppered the pedestrian corridor. We were all now strange red creatures, watching transfixed in rapt silence as the night sky was on fire. And just as suddenly as it had appeared, it was gone; the orange light faded back into a deep well of pitch black.

BLURB:
Meet
Edger (Ed-jer), a twenty-six-year-old gadget retail dork destined to become the
world’s first superhero! His superpower: the ability to channel the Collective
Unconscious, a psychic network connecting the living and the dead. In his
arsenal are the skills of Bruce Lee, the strength of Samson, the wisdom of the
ages...and the dancing chops of Michael Jackson—including that one twisty foot
move, crotch grab, and fedora tilt. But there's a catch... Like every psychic
super power to get administered through a hypodermic needle, this one comes
with a prick. Someone seems to have misplaced the booster necessary for
stabilizing his superpower. Without it, Edger has three days before his brain
turns to pudding. Join our Dork of Destiny as he overcomes the world’s greatest
butt, two rival Cluck-n-Pray gangs, an evil cow, a Green Bay Defensive Tackle,
rifle-toting assassins—and a pair of stoners who inadvertently create the
world’s first supervillain after a wild night on Twitter!

EXCERPT TWO:
The
water is filling.
We’re
spinning.
Blondie
is rapturing.
Below
us, the nightclub turns like a sparkling dream. Worse, Underwearld is
wallpapered in phosphorescent art photos of Caleb in his Calvin Kleins.
“Hey
Edger—it’s Caleb!” says Mary, banging her shoulder against the side of our
disco ball water torture prison and sloshing water. “Caleb! Caleb!”
I
roll my eyes. “Of course you know Caleb. Because the universe just couldn’t let
me die without letting me know: Hey—Mary knows Caleb.”
“Edger,
Caleb’s H.A.R.D.O.N.”
“Hard-on
for you, hard-on for Kate—”
“Oh
my God, Edger. Not now, okay? High Risk Agency for Regulating the Defense Of
the NFL.”
“What!?
That doesn’t even make any sense! It should be H-A-R-D-O—wait, somebody
capitalized the freaking O—?! You know, my tax dollars paid someone to
capitalize that letter O.”
“Really?
Really, Edger? You want to do this now?”
“That’s
what they always say too: ‘You wanna do this now.’ But notice they never
balance the budget. All I’m saying is, you gotta talk about it sometime.”
“Edger!
We. Are about. To die.”
So
I’m panting, she’s panting, and Caleb’s down there scanning the room in front
of a larger than life phosphorescent photograph of his crotch. Because
apparently all paths in life lead there.
“Caleb!”
Mary yells.
“Caleb!”
I yell.
And
so there we are, yelling our butts off, banging our shoulders into the wall,
water sloshing over our faces—you know, not panicking.
Then
the water level reaches our chins.

GUEST POST:
How to Hold Yourself Accountable:
New Writers Can Finish that Book!
One of these days I’m going to write that novel…
Don’t let these be your famous last words!
Finishing
your first novel is something most aspiring fiction writers will never do.
There are a zillion excuses to keep you from reaching the end. (And usually
Twitter is at the top of the list.) Perhaps it’s fair to say the real secret to
success is success itself, which poses a bit of a chicken and egg conundrum.
Getting your book written is the only way to develop a functional system
for writing your book. Below are my 10 suggestions for new writers hoping to
make it from the first word to the last.
1.)Know
thyself.
How much can you write on your best day? Five hundred words? A thousand? Seven
thousand? Consider your frame of mind on those best days and how to create an
environment where there are more best days than not.
2.)Set practical
goals.
Now that you know how many words you can crank out, start small. Assume only
one day a week will be spectacular. Keep showing up to write, even when it
means half productivity on your average writing day. Determine how long to
reach your final word count. Eg. Best day = 2000, average day = 1000. @5 days,
you’ve got 6k words written each week. @60k-word projected draft, you’ll be
done in 10 weeks. Put that date on the calendar, keep showing up to write.
3.)Don’t sweat it.
After all, this is the part where you simply shovel words—any words—onto the
page. It need only be workable, not artful. Remember: Anything can be
edited.
4.)Plotter or
pantser?
Follow your intuition. If you want some structure, set aside some time
(separately from writing time) to build a story frame. Pro tip: Frames can be
revised too. Relax!
5.)What happens
next?
At some point, every writer will get stumped. Asking yourself, “What happens
next?” is a workable writing prompt for any first draft. If the answer is “I
don’t know,” ask one of your characters. (Oftentimes the antagonist knows…)
6.)Write with the
door shut.
You can open it later.
7.)Develop the
first draft.
Once you hit your word count, put the book in the drawer and write something else.
Could be a few months before you come back, and that’s good. When you
return to your first draft, be forgiving, and take the opportunity to go deep!
Layer in sensory experiences, motivations, conflicts, world-building details.
Bring that book to life!
8.)Does this go
here?
Usually story elements need moving around. Totally normal. Consider building a
story roadmap, analyzing your story beats, or even creating a document in
bullet points showing what’s happening in your story.
9.)Polish last. This
is the downfall of many aspiring writers. Too critical too soon. Your words
will change hundreds of times throughout the process. It isn’t worth wasting
tons of time polishing early on. Only after the story is secure is it worth going paragraph by paragraph, sentence
by sentence, word by word. This is the time to be artful. Clean up
overused expressions, words, search and destroy clichés. Useful resources:
Self-Editing for Fiction Writers by Dave King is a must for new authors. Edit Minion is a wonderful resource for discovering overused words, average sentence
length, passive phrasing, clichés, and other writerly details.
10.)Hire an
editor!You
don’t have to pay out the nose. It is an expense, but don’t you owe it
to your book? Also, the more you give, the more you get. If you turn in a
manuscript riddled with errors, you’re asking too much from your editor.
Remember: It’s your job to write the book. It’s the editor’s job to make it
shine.
What do you think of this list? Helpful, or not so much? Please
sound off in the comments below!

BLURB:
March
Morgan still believes in true love, but her faith in finding her soul mate is
slowly vanishing. She’s been married but never in love. So, it is a miracle to
find that fantasy exists on the last page of a glossy women’s journal. Mayfair
Electronics, Ltd., in black and white, offers Love for Sale. The London firm
has engineered sentient androids indistinguishable from humans. She flies to
England and meets the man she has been searching for her entire life.
Christian
requires no programming to love March at first sight. He’s handsome,
cultured…absolutely perfect…and a little different from the other androids. He
has an unexpected independent streak. March signs on the dotted line, buying
her dream man. They return to Houston, but soon her past and his future
threaten their Happily Ever After—indeed their lives.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT ONE:
From Love for Sale
Motionless,
she watched the parade of beauty, but none of them struck the special chord
that would make her heart sing. These men—androids—can be customized, March
reminded herself.Still, it took more
than looks to make her fall in love.
Then
he strode through the door, and her heart did a double back flip. She inhaled a
soft gasp.He was perfect, no
customization needed.The only
programming required was a sense of humor and an intense libido.Lord, she wanted to touch him, run her
fingers through his hair and kiss that luscious mouth.
“Sorry
to keep you waiting.”His voice defined
musical and played that special chord she’d dreamed of.“I was on the phone.”
The
Special Editions had gathered around her.The auburn haired woman whispered a laugh.“Is there any need for more than one
introduction, Ms. Morgan?”
That
someone was speaking barely registered.March didn’t respond.She was
speechless and couldn’t peel her gaze off the most beautiful man she’d ever
seen.His eyes were crystalline blue,
his hair wheat colored.She’d wanted
sparks. She’d gotten fireworks!No way in hell was she leaving London without
him.
Spellbound,
March was drawn one step toward perfection, her willful eyes traveling over his
body, pausing at his zipper, sliding down his long legs.The wasted years looped through her memory,
regret stinging her eyes.
Melissa
squeezed her hand.“Ah, you like our
blond.”She beckoned.“Come, Christian.”
In
tight jeans and a tux jacket with plaid cummerbund and bow tie, her dream man
paused in the light of a crystal and gold chandelier.His shoulder-length hair shone like
silk.Mischief sparkled in his
eyes.Full lips parted on a smile, his
teeth white and even.March loved a
beautiful smile, and everything inside her melted.
The
greatest enemy of a vampire is boredom. Four centuries of existence have taught
Lord Morgan Gabriel D'Arcy to fear nothing and no one. Humans and their weapons
have little chance against his preternatural speed and arcane powers. Vampires
are viral mutations of human DNA. Still, the Vampyre code requires secrecy, and
he has learned to hide his nature from the world. The lure of mortality, of a
life in the sun, puts Morgan again and again at the mercy of calculating human
women though they fail to consider his charm and determination into the
equation. However, even grooming a future bride from infancy proves to be
fraught with heartbreak. And second chances are not always what they seem
unless... you are Morgan. Immortality and beauty, aren’t they grand?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT THREE:
From A Vampyre Rhapsody
Art
is passion.
Each
of us, at some time, wishes to stand naked in passion’s temple and face
deepest, darkest desire—to be an innocent victim to lust. I knew all about lust. Lust.
Bloodlust. In the ecstasy of the
Kiss and the rapture of the kill, the two fused.
I
glided to the sofa, perching on the arm.
Mischief whispered in my ear.
My
friend Lucien, head of the Council that governed the Vampyre, would be livid if
I endangered our secret. I might even be punished. So what? For a long time now, I’d faithfully toed the
line, giving the powers that be no reason to slap my hand. No one was likely to
nominate me for sainthood, and I was tired of being a good man. Envisioning an outraged Lucien crumpling the
newspaper, I laughed aloud. For days, I
hadn’t laughed. I was still chuckling when I dashed off a Men Seeking Women
romance ad.
Vampires
were no longer monsters, but fine seducers, purveyors of passion. Victims abounded. As I sampled the replies, I
was disappointed and left fifty beautiful women disappointed as well, thinking
me another nut not a vampire.
I
failed to find the thrilling vintage I sought and forgot about the ad.
**
“Hello,
darlin’.” Her voice was lazy, honey-sweet and sensual. “You look like you could use some company.”
I
took a deep breath of the vintage I had sought. “I could.”
“You
got it.” Manicured red nails dug into my
shoulders. “I’ve been waiting for you all my life.”
A
first-class, round-trip ticket to the Turks and Caicos Islands dropped on the
keyboard. Another fell beside it. One of the tickets was issued to Morgan Gabriel
D'Arcy, the other to Fiona Allman. I had to admire her style, but she couldn’t
have come from the ad. Names and addresses weren’t given.
Fiona
was the given.
“What
you waiting for? Your bags are packed. We’re leaving on a jet plane.” The
enticing voice grew darker, duskier. “To sunshine. No more of this fricking
rain.”
“Fiona,
I presume.”
“It’s
me, darlin’, the one you’ve been waiting for.” Soft, warm lips caressed my
cheek, her fingers working magic on the tense muscles in my neck.
The
scents of rain-perfumed skin, Italian leather, and blood laced with single malt
whiskey teased my six senses. I hadn’t
fed in nights. The craving wrenched my stomach.
Saliva broke beneath my tongue. Her fingers stroking my neck awoke
another, totally sexual desire. I threw back my head and laughed. I was in trouble. At last!
She
smoothed the hair back from my forehead. “Come on, pretty baby, get up. We
don’t have much time. Heathrow’s a good hour’s drive from here.”
“I
can’t go,” I said, not believing my own lie.
I always did exactly as I pleased.
“CD to cut.”
The
throaty laugh was as sensual as her touch.
“I’ve checked your schedule. No personal appearances. These dickheads
will wait until Lord D’Arcy returns. They have to. You are the show.”
“How
did you find me?” I liked the way she
stroked my libido. An image of taking her on the piano heated my blood. “How
did you know my name? And my schedule.”
“Does
it matter?” She tucked my hair behind my ear and sucked the lobe into her
mouth. “I wanna [screw] your brains out.”
“Anytime.” I was ready. Desire throbbed, hot, taut in my
belly and in my [shaft].
Do any of your characters have a special hobby or interest? If so, write a post in the character talking
about those interests from their POV.
Hello,
my name is Morgan. Thanks for allowing me to take over your lovely blog today
to ramble on about my hobby though horses are more than a hobby (ask any
horseman). Since I was very young, I have loved the horse—everything
equine—books, films, TV or old-time radio which was mostly, at that time,
racing. I’ve heard that the way to make a small fortune with horses is to start
with a large one. If so, the journey is
worth the ticket.
I
awoke every Christmas morning and hurried to the window to see if there was a
pony tied to a tree on our front lawn.
There never was.
My
favorite breed is the Iberian horse—the magnificent Andalusian. You’ve seen
them in movies. They are used a lot in film today. Fancy movement, long flowing
manes and tails, arched necks. They are beautiful, and they are kind and smart.
The
Andalusian is the bullfighting horse of Spain, quick or dead. Mounted
rejoneadors depend on their horse to avoid the deadly horns of the fierce
Iberian bulls while they place the picadors in the animal. They are also seen
often in the modern dressage arena though they are perfectly suited to
Classical Horsemanship, which is my interest. This school includes the Airs
above the Ground: Capriole, Courbette which were designed to strike terror in
the enemy foot soldiers. In capriole,
the horse leaps into the air and kicks out with his hind feet. In courbette, he rears and jumps forward on
his hind feet.
I
could expound for hours of classical equitation, but I imagine you’d rather
hear about the horse.
The
Andalusian is called the Horse of Kings because in the heyday of European
monarchies, the Andalusian's flair, style and formidable carriage made him the
mount of choice for the aristocracy.
Many, many kings and queens were painted on Andalusians.
One
of the slogans of the International Andalusian and Lusitano Association is:
‘This horse will change your life.’ It
has certainly changed mine.
If
you are in the market for a horse, I can personally and enthusiastically
recommend an Andalusian. They tend to be gentle and calm (even the stallions)
and loving. Riding an Andalusian, you will never go unnoticed.
Linda
almost always has someone who loves the Andalusian in her books. The new
audiobook Gambler’s Choice is not about Andalusians, but it is about people who
love horses. The title is derived from a jumping class in a horse show. The
class is a timed event, racing the clock as the fences are raised higher and
higher, eliminating competitors until only one team of horse and rider remain.
I
could indeed ramble all day about horses. I will give you a break with the wish
that you have a good day … and rush right to the internet and research the
Andalusian.
