At almost seventeen Faith Boswell knows little about the world beyond the lodging house in Ballarat owned by her widowed mother. The mining town of Ballarat in 1860 is populated by those seeking to get rich by finding gold, so their residents are mostly miners on their way to the diggings with high hopes of finding this highly treasured substance. Sadly, Faith’s Ma is not the easiest person to get along with and Faith often wonders just why her mother is so bitter.

Things start to change unexpectedly one day when a stranger appears at the door of their home—a gentleman who mysteriously seems to know a lot about Faith’s Ma, her past life, plus Faith herself. Faith fears that her mother has been lying to her all her life. From that day Faith’s life takes a turn, perhaps for the better. One long-term lodger is a widow who unexpectedly presents Faith with an unusual birthday gift. This gift causes uproar which plays a large part in Faith’s life from them onwards.

Because Faith knows little about life outside of her sheltered existence, she is unable to fathom if handsome Walter Finch, son of the nearby store owners, has real feelings for her or is simply being kind. Faith is soon to find out just how willing he is to help her as she sets out on a new and scary phase in her life.

EXCERPT THREE:

Walt was in the process of working on one of Matilda’s hooves. He was stripped to the waist and in the moment before he looked up and saw Faith, she admired his strong body. Seldom had she seen a half-naked man except for the natives who chose to go around part clothed. In fact, the only time was when one of the miners ran through town waving his discarded shirt in his glee at finding a nugget of gold.

“You have a nice voice,” she said, knowing her voice came out huskily. With a small cough she quickly added, “I hope I have not caught you when you are very busy.”

Reaching for his shirt which he pulled on slowly, he laughed. “Never too busy for you, Faith. I am about ready for a rest.” Stroking the mare’s neck, he told her to continue with whatever was in her manger, and beckoned Faith to a bench. “Come sit here. No one will bother us, and it is cooler here inside. It is warming up as we near Yuletide.”

Feeling ridiculously shy, she sat and straightened her skirt over her knees. “As I told you, I have a decision to make, and I hoped you could help me to sort out my jumbled thoughts.”

“I will do my best—but I am just a simple bloke so don’t expect me to solve any difficult dilemmas you might have.” This was followed by a chuckle.

MY BOOK REVIEW:

This book, “For the Love of Faith,” is a compelling, charming, intriguing, historical romance read filled with engaging characters, beautiful horses, and a satisfying HEA!!

This is the fourth book I’ve had the pleasure of reading and reviewing from the talented author, Tricia McGill.

As stated as part of the historical genre this book takes place in a small mining town in 1860. While the historical aspect of the story may seem unrelatable in today’s life, readers will still find the story line stimulating and the characters honest, likable, and genuine.

This book follows the main character, Faith, who’s entire life has pretty much remained the same day in and out helping her ma board horses and run the lodging house until one day when a handsome stranger, Walt, full of mysteries and secrets, arrives on their doorstep to shake things up and change Faith’s life forever.

While I really did like Faith, even though she was quite naïve and sheltered, I honestly was able to connect with her through her complicated relationship with her mom, her curiosity, and dreams about the unknown and mysterious big world out there, and her big heart full of love and compassion for horses.

This book is a quick, easy read at only 161 eBook pages.

There are some predictable scenes. However, there are still a few very unexpected twists and turns that you won’t see coming!!

Currently it seems this book in not part of a book series. Therefore, this book can easily be read as a standalone.

For readers that like neat and tidy endings, this book’s HEA is tied up with a bow and is sure to leave readers completely satisfied.

All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it!! I think all historical romance readers will like this book too!! So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading – you won’t be disappointed!!
