She’s the One Who Can’t Keep Quiet
The War Stories of the
Seven Troublesome Sisters
Book Five
by S. R. Cronin

GENRE: Historical Fantasy

BLURB:
Do you know what your problem is?
Celestine, the fifth of seven sisters, is tired of hearing about hers. Father thinks she’s frivolous because she likes pretty clothes and caters to the crowds in the taverns who adore her music. Mother thinks that because she’s the most social daughter in the family, she can’t keep quiet about anything.
They’re both wrong. Celestine hides a secret she has kept for most of her life.
As the family beauty and a talented musician with a lyrical voice, she has the best prospects for marriage to a prince. When such a liaison never happens, people assume Celestine is too choosy. But even in somewhat tolerant Ilari, a daughter hates to disappoint her family. How can she tell them she’s in love with a princess instead?
Lucky for Celestine, all her sisters are obsessed with an invading army headed to their realm. Celestine would rather ignore the threat and enjoy the freedom their lack of attention gives her. But, her voice can unlock a power that may help save Ilari. And the woman she loves is determined to fight these invaders. And her family, for all their talents, seems clueless about how to motivate the masses.
Celestine knows she can inspire the citizens of Ilari to do what needs to be done. Is it time to put her inhibitions aside and use her voice to save those she cares about?

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:
Pilk changed with the coming of spring. Yes, of course, the birds sang more, the sun shone longer, and the crocus leaves peeked through the snow, but that’s not what I noticed. Those things happened every year. I saw a new sense of urgency in people’s behavior. In every crowd, I sensed something important on their minds as I performed. Something no one would speak of.
I altered my opening dialogs to give less banter and more comfort. Sometimes I added in a short ditty about staying strong and having hope. People responded well to my new approach.
The number of Svadlu in Pilk grew, and the taverns saw less of them. In subtle ways, people showed the soldiers more respect, the way people do when they expect danger.
My own life faced changes, too. I loved living in Pilk, with its crowds and noise and wonderful shopping, but I neared the end of my studies. In two eighths my quartet had to be something my parents would consider a real job, or I was doomed to the drudgery of a wheat farm where I’d help with the world’s most boring chores while I sought a husband I did not want.
There was another reason I mourned the end of my studies, one I hadn’t counted on. My only foray into science, an introduction to the heavens, had become my favorite class.
I’d never guessed the pictures humans saw in the stars reflected so many passionate stories. I’d had no idea how those pictures moved throughout the night, revolving around a mysteriously important point in the sky. What about this single dot allowed it to command the entire heavens? Except for the moon, of course, which much to my delight was commanded by no one.
I learned that those with exceptional vision could see many tiny stars making up what appeared to others to be a single point of light. Ancients elsewhere called the most famous of these “the seven sisters.” The instructor smiled at me when she said this, and I blushed.
And that was the real problem.

MY BOOK REVIEW:
This book is an exciting, intriguing, captivating, and engaging read!!
Another fantastic addition to an already successful book series!!!
This is the NINTH book I’ve read from the impressive and talented writer, S. R. Cronin. To say I’m a fan, would be an understatement lol!!
As usual, I was swept away with Cronin’s storytelling and her ability to completely engage the reader from page one!!
This book is Book Five in the War Stories of the Seven Troublesome Sisters Book Series. Each book in this book series focuses on a specific sister, her story, her special abilities, and her contributions to helping her family and community fight an upcoming war.
Each book in this book series is like a puzzle piece, and each piece provides a little more insight into the big picture of the overall story. Like a puzzle, it can be solved following a multitude of ways, these books can easily be read as standalones, or in any order. However, even though they can be read out of order, I wouldn’t strongly recommend that. As it seems evident the author wrote this series in this particular order for a reason, and each book seems to fittingly complement the next, properly setting up the tone and speed of the next book in the series.
This book follows the main character, Celestine, the fifth sister, and the twin of Olivine, the sister from Book Four, “She’s the One Who Doesn’t Say Much.” While Celestine seems like the most “normal,” sister of the bunch so far, her story is also unique, and continues to add to the mystique, intrigue, and enchantment of the upcoming final showdown battle that this book series has intensely built up to.
I think I really liked Celestine the most, because she is likable, realistic, and easy to connect with. She is beautiful, outgoing, charismatic, friendly, and is a very talented musician with a magical voice. Out of all the sisters she is considered the likeliest to be able to nab a prince. While her parents seem disappointed with her life’s direction and all the distractions, as they hoped she would marry well and settle down, it seems there is more to Celestine than just being “too choosy.” Celestine is in love, but not with a prince – a woman, Firuza, her former teacher. How can Celestine tell her parents that she has already met her soulmate? Will her parents understand and be able to accept her for who she is?
Furthermore, this book does continue to lead up to the impending war, and highlights Celestine’s magical voice contribution of being able to engage, gather, inspire, sway, and encourage a crowd. Her gift is crucial to helping win the war as she proves to be an important key asset among her other uniquely gifted sisters.
Another special addition to this book is that is delves into the girl’s mom’s story as we finally get to learn more about her, her history, background, and her role in this storyline. Not much, or more specifically very few positive or warm details about her are mentioned until this particular book. Let’s just say there is way more to her story, and this deep dive into her character offers the reader significant insight and understanding into not just her, but the family, community, and culture.
I would also like to point out that as an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community, I appreciate the author using her platform to educate the public about understanding and accepting diversity, creating positive environments, and continuing to support equal civil rights and gender equality. I think the author took great care in properly, fairly, and respectfully representing this community.
This book is clearly another enjoyable read in Cronin’s latest successful book series. However, fair warning that these books do end with cliffhangers and with many questions still unresolved. I hate cliffhangers lol – but I understand their importance and necessity in a book series, especially a long one. Only two books left to go and I can't wait to find out what happens next as this story continues to climactically unfold and sadly, but eventually end!!
All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend it – and this book series!! I think all historical fantasy readers will like this book too!! So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading – you won’t be disappointed!!

AUTHOR BIO:
Sherrie Roth writes stories about people achieving the astonishing by developing abilities they barely knew they had. She’s made a lot of stops along the way to telling these tells — living in seven cities, visiting forty-six countries, and working as a waitress, technical writer, and geophysicist. She’s lost too many beloved cats to mention, but has acquired a husband and three children who are all doing fine, despite how odd she is.
Today she lives in the mountains of Western North Carolina where she writes, answers a hotline, and occasionally checks her phone for a message from Captain Picard. She still hopes to get the chance to pursue her remaining dream in life and become Chief Science Officer on the Starship Enterprise.
