GENRE: Urban Fantasy/Paranormal Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
A
frantic middle of the night call jolts Gerry from his quiet, but lonely life,
back into a world fraught with dangerous creatures of the night. Erin's
frenzied call leads Gerry across the country where he finds himself immersed in
the luxuries of Beverly Hills and the seedier side of the Hollywood strip.
Sadness
and longing grip him as he finds a blood-spattered room and Erin is nowhere to
be found.
Alone
in a strange city with nothing to go on can Gerry find and save Erin? Or is
this the end of something never meant to be?
Her
past has caught up with her and he's her only hope.
With
a group of trusted friends Gerry takes on the impossible and gives everything
to save Erin.
Beverly Hills Torture is the second novel in the Erin Kingsly
series. Be sure to check out Capital Thirst.
EXCERPT TWO:
Darkness
was everywhere. Erin wasn’t even certain if her eyes were open or closed. The
blackness was complete. She blinked, but it made no difference, the blackness
encompassed her. She chose to leave her eyes closed and concentrated on her
other senses. The air felt cool against her skin. It smelled dank and musty. No
sounds reached her ears. Total silence enveloped her.
Her arms were numb, fastened above her head
with heavy clasps that scorched her wrists where they touched her skin. She
could tell her arms were spread wide. Her legs were spread as well. Heavy
clasps dug into the flesh of her ankles as the weight of her body pushed down
against them. She formed an X pinned against something hard and unyielding. Her
head was all she could move. But only side to side. Her hair hung matted across
her face plastered to her skin with dried blood. Even the small effort of
trying to shake her head exhausted her. There seemed to be no way to free
herself.
“Where
am I?” she wondered aloud. “How long have I been here?” Her voice sounded raspy
and alien even to her own ears. Pain radiated down her arms and up her legs
into the core of her body. The pain shattered her thoughts like splinters that
flew in a million pieces. She knew the clasps that held her in place were silver.
The burning and excruciating pain were enough that she knew. Why? Silver to
vampires could be deadly. They only used it on the worst of her kind. When she
was a newly created vampire, she heard stories of its use but knew enough to
stay away from it. This was the first time she experienced its power. It wasn’t
just the pain where it touched her skin. The silver felt like a poison that
flowed through her body. It clouded her mind. Pain spread everywhere. Surely
death would be better.
GUEST POST:
Some of My Favorite Items in My Office:
My
“office” is my family room. I don’t use the study. It’s decorated beautifully,
cherry desk and bookshelves filled with my favorite books and nick knacks I’ve
collected, but I rarely write in there. Pay bills, do paperwork, but not write.
My
favorite item has to be the cats. They keep me company while I write and make
sure I take breaks and a nap with them when it’s time. They will even close the
laptop and push it off my lap when it’s time for a nap. When I’m stuck, they
seem to know and give me that reassuring head butt. Or I can just sit and watch
them when I need a break.
Here’s
Mason asking why I’m not taking a nap yet.
And
here’s Inky sunning herself. You would think with all that black fur she
wouldn’t want to lie in the sun, but it’s her favorite thing to do.
Finally,
here’s Henry in my favorite chair. I guess I’m not going to be doing any
writing for a while. It’s not a good idea to mess with him while he’s napping.
Callie
doesn’t come visit me while I’m writing, but she’s only eight months old and
prefers to spend the day chasing Huxley around. He’s three months old. Neither
one can sit still long enough to be bothered with me while I’m writing. But
here, they are enjoying a little relaxing time.
The
second most important thing is a cup of hot coffee. A person needs lots of
brain fuel to write and I’ve found the best fuel is in the form of hot, black
coffee. The problem is when I get caught up in a scene I forget to drink it,
then it’s cold the next time I take a sip. While my son loves iced coffee, I
can’t stand it cold. So then it’s time for a break to get another cup.
As
you can see between cats and coffee there are a lot of reasons to take a break.
But you can’t just sit and write without time to think.
Oh,
and I couldn’t write without my favorite chair. Feet up reclining with my
laptop is the best way to write. That leads to nap time.
I’m
wondering how I get any writing done. Between napping with the cats and getting
coffee. Maybe I should find another place to write and I would get more done.
AUTHOR BIO:
I
love a good paranormal read, something about the un-dead haunts the fringes of
my mind. Mix in romance, love, loss, and you have a great story.
I
voraciously read everything, fiction, and non-fiction but always find myself
turning back to the darker stories. I’ve always wanted to write and the dream
became a reality with Capital Thirst, and the remainder of the Erin
Kingsly novels.
I
spend most of my days designing and building websites, but my free time is
devoted to my wife, family, and cats. Yes three grown children and three cats.
Things can be hectic.
For
fun you might find me driving winding roads with the top down or out photographing
nature.
DeleteThank you for having me back a second time. I'm super excited about Beverly Hills Torture, but just as excited about sharing my babies. Of course they are the biggest hindrance to my writing since they always want me to nap with them
