BLURB:

One man’s choices—One woman’s impact

Rock House Grill

Aden House, successful but driven chef and TV personality, refuses to slow down. His life implodes one night, damaging him both physically and emotionally. He's rescued by a woman he thinks of as his angel.

Shay McDowell has rebuilt her life after her divorce. She juggles volunteer EMT duties and her job, while dreaming of becoming a chef. She finds her way to Rock House Grill and back into the life of the man she helped save.

Can love be the ingredient needed to survive the many obstacles they face?

EXCERPT TWO:

Moments later, in front of friends, colleagues, and strangers, Shay walked through the door directly into the end of her marriage.

Nick wasn’t picking up the overtime shift as he’d claimed. He sat in a strange house with a bloody shirt next to him on the floor. “They’re nothing. Leave me alone.” Nick pushed Zach’s gloved hands away from shallow lacerations on his chest. “I’ll sign a refusal of treatment.”

The domestic dispute quickly escalated into domestic Armageddon.
Burning pain flared to life in Shay’s chest, and love died a quick, painful death.
Burned-down candles glowed on the table, lighting the remains of limp pasta and half-filled glasses of red wine.

MY BOOK REVIEW:

This book is a delightful, savory, hopeful, fun, romantic, and warmhearted read!!

This book starts off in one of those totally embarrassing, please say that did not just happen moments where I totally couldn’t help but feel for Shay!  EMT’s Shay and Joanna get a call and show up at a domestic disturbance scene.  Shockingly this is where Shay finds out her husband Nick is there in a romantic setting with his mistress, Brenda!  So embarrassing!  Not only to find out your husband is cheating, but to walk into that setting with your co-workers all watching – dreadful!  And the story pretty much takes off from there with many more exciting, captivating, intriguing, romantic scenes…

I really liked the main characters, Aden and Shay.  They were honest, hardworking, and genuine characters.  I liked that Aden was this ambitious, strong-willed, stubborn, determined, and unwavering guy.  He was serious and knew exactly what he wanted, and nothing was going to stop him from achieving his dreams.  I also really liked Shay!  She was smart, caring, kindhearted, motivated, and thoughtful.  I really liked Aden and Shay together!  They were super adorable!  I think many readers will be able to easily relate to and connect with Aden and Shay!

I loved the perseverance theme that is strongly weaved into the story line.  These characters are driven, push hard, and never give up.  It’s inspiring to see both main characters face different, but still equally difficult challenges and take them head-on.  Whether it was Aden recovering emotionally and physically from his major car accident or Shay dealing with the stress and abandonment of her husband, being harassed and tormented by her husband’s mistress, and working hard to rebuild her life.  They both kept looking for the silver lining and that everything happens for a reason.

This book was filled with excellent plot obstacles that the main characters had to face.  They were well constructed and thoroughly thought-out.  These were realistic and practical issues that real couples have to overcome, which made the story even stronger.

I couldn’t help but cheer for Aden and Shay on both personal and professional achievements – and wish success for them to make it as a couple!

This book has a powerfully positive, hopeful, optimistic, have faith themes that are beautifully incorporated into the story line.

I also really enjoyed the cooking theme in the story line!  I love watching cooking competition shows and was fond of the cooking references throughout the book.

There are some predictable scenes.  However, there are still a few very unexpected twists and turns that you won’t see coming!

All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend it!  I think all romance, suspense readers will like this book too!  So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading - you won't be disappointed!

AUTHOR BIO:

Born in Brooklyn, D.V. Stone has moved around a bit and even lived for a time on a dairy farm in Minnesota before moving back east. Despite her wandering, she always considered herself a Jersey Girl. She met the love of her life and moved, this time to Sussex County. Her husband, Pete, is a lifelong Sussex County man. They share their home with Hali a mixed breed from a local shelter and Baby a small gray cat who bosses everyone around.

She’s had varied career path from working with the disabled led to becoming a volunteer EMT, which in turn led to working in hospital emergency rooms and then in a woman’s state prison. After a few years, she took a break from medical tasks and became the owner of Heavenly Brew, a specialty coffee shop in Sparta NJ, and small restaurant in Lafayette. Life handed some setbacks, and she ended up back to medical field, but this time in a veterinary emergency hospital.

During the poor economy, she was laid–off from a long-time position she cared about. Devastated, D.V. wondered what to do with her life. Finding comfort in her love of reading, she realized it was now time to follow her dream of writing. It's been a long road but worth every minute of it. Now a published author she also works in a people medical office again.

“Thank you for taking the time to read about me. Each time you open the pages to one of my books I hope you'll be swept away by the story and to, never in the real world give up on hope."

  6. Hi, Bernie. Thank you for asking. I am!
The second book to the Impact Series will be Jazz House. There will be familiar characters and someone who was introduced in Rock House. I also have a summer novella coming out titled Rainbow Sprinkles. A second chance romance in Wild Rose Press's Once Scoop or Two line.
