GENRE: Fantasy

BLURB:
Once,
there was a truce. Desperaux controlled the west with magic, and Desire claimed
the east with steel and science.
But
now magic has disappeared, and the world has changed.
The
kingdom of Desire will stop at nothing to maintain the new world order. On
Juno’s wedding day, their Mengery soldiers came marching through the Nine
desert to rip his world apart. Now he journeys east with his adopted brother,
Trey, in search of revenge after the murder of his family. Along the way, the
two face bandits and the magical creatures of the Nine. When they finally reach
Desire, Juno and Trey will face something even deadlier – their own fears and
ambitions.
This
is a tale of brotherhood, a revenge story that will remind you that everything
has a cost – a cost that will be paid to Desire and to the inner demons that
govern us all.

EXCERPT THREE:
Lee
thought this seemed like a lot of effort over the stealing of some fruit.
Although, he guessed the Mengery were mad he blew up the marketplace in the
process. Using the special shoes Asha had given him before he left the Silo, he
jumped backwards out of reach of a Mengery’s daga.
“You’ll
have to catch me if you want to dance, big boy!”
He
jumped away, turning his osmosis shoes on mid-leap so a spurt of water from
their bottoms propelled him to the top of a building. The beams of laser shot
from their guns were so hot they caused the water in his shoes to evaporate. If
there was one thing the resistance needed, it was guns. And food. And water. A
place to sleep. Maybe some TV.
As
Mengery on the ground shot at him with pistols, another two set a wooden ladder
against the building and started climbing up. Lee took a bite out of his apple
before throwing it at the armored man scowling at him.
“You
are one bad apple.”
The
fruit landed hard against the ladder, toppling it over and sending the two
guards crashing down. Propelling himself to an adjacent building, he crashed
through a window as his fuel gage read empty. His shoes needed water. The
resistance could definitely use water.

GUEST POST:
Seven Reasons You Should Read My Book
1.) One of the main antagonists is a Native-American demon
who’s so obscure I could hardly find any information about him.
a.) Dzoavits is a demon who stole the sun and kidnaps kids. That’s
about all I could find out about him.
2.) There is a throwback to a minor character from the
Mahabharata who proves you don’t need to be an important figure to do important
work.
a.) One of my favorite parts of the Mahabharata growing up
involved a man named Ekalavya. He was going to be a better archer than Arjuna,
the famed warrior, but he willingly sacrificed his talent to satisfy the whims
of his (notably unethical) teacher.
3.) The protagonist doesn’t have a love story, but others do.
4.) It pays homage to some of my favorite work from Dragon
Ball Z
a.) Kren is based off Master Roshi, the training room Juno
trains in takes influence from the hyperbolic time chamber, and the strangeness
of the beasts and interactions between many of the characters resembles the
strange humor DBZ.
5.) I am a total Star Wars nut and my favorite force power
(only seen in KOTOR) is used by some of the mages
a.) The final battle features these warriors called the
Krenten using a form of battle meditation.
6.) Oasis explores dharma in a way that is consistent with
the Mahabharata
a.) Honestly, sometimes fulfilling your dharma sucks. That’s
one of the main lessons of the Bhagavad Gita, and it’s evident in how Juno and
Trey’s friendship progresses.
7.) Refugees and the LGBT community can find representation
here
a.) Let’s be
honest, all art is political. I was a professional Democratic operative for ten
years and started writing this novel in the months immediately after Donald
Trump was elected. I hope that is evident in my writing because I think it
makes the book more relatable. From a main cast that is exclusively nonwhite to
political themes of inclusion, I hope people find this book as an example of
diversity done right.

ReplyDeleteYou know, I actually thought about this last week. I think a movie would be a better medium for it. This excerpt introduces you to Lee, who in my vision would be cast as Lewis Tan from Deadpool 2.
