GENRE: Paranormal Romance

BLURB:
Teran
Richter is in Animas, Colorado, to find members of the Folk, a simple task. But
the annual Animas Fall Festival brings hordes of tourists and daily
celebrations that make it frustrating. Things begin to look up when Teran meets
Marika Sager. Marika’s business partner Eva seems to be a member of the Folk,
only it’s Marika Teran’s attracted to, particularly after a local witch’s brew
sends the two into a memorable night of passion.
But
there are sinister forces at work in Animas. Teran’s attacked and his assistant
is kidnapped. When Marika also disappears, Teran’s forced to confront the
truth: someone is out to sabotage his mission and destroy anyone who tries to
help. With an eccentric team of magical allies, Teran must rescue Marika and
fight off those who want to destroy both him and the Folk. But can he find a
way to confront the shadowy forces while keeping himself and his lover safe
from harm?

EXCERPT THREE:
The
first man spun. Teran spied a glint of metal in the man’s hand and threw
himself to the ground as a shot rang out. He rolled behind a tree when a second
shot splintered a branch above him. “Eva, get down,” he yelled.
Either
Eva didn’t hear him or didn’t care. She strode out on the trail, her expression
ferocious. “What do you think you’re doing?”
The
man with the gun whirled toward her, his eyes widening. “What?”
“You
heard me,” she snapped. “Firing a gun out here on the trail where people hike.
You should be ashamed of yourself.”
The
gunman shook his head as if trying to clear it. “Get back. Get out of the way.”
“No.”
Eva stepped in front of him, and Teran leapt to his feet. If he moved fast he
might be able to push her aside before the man shot her.
Eva
raised her hand and slapped the gunman across one cheek. As Teran gaped, the
man dropped to his knees and then fell face down across the trail.
Teran
felt like shaking his head as the gunman had done. What the hell had he just
seen? His brain couldn’t process fast enough. “What are you, some kind of
martial artist?”
Eva
shrugged. “Something like that. These two should be out of commission for a
while. We need to help Bertie and Marika.”
Teran
swallowed. “Right.”

GUEST POST:
The Character I Identify Most With
I
really wish I could say I identify with my guy Prince Bertie in Unseen since he’s suave, sophisticated
and sensitive, but if I’m being honest, I have to admit that I’m not really any
of those things (well, I’m sort of sensitive, some of the time). In reality I
think I identify most with my heroine, Marika Sager.
Marika
thinks of herself as a sort of normal, everyday kind of person. True, she’s a
talented weaver and the owner of an art gallery, but compared to the company
she keeps, she’s decidedly ordinary. Marika, you see, is surrounded by
supernatural types. Her lover, my hero Teran Richter, is half Seelie, which
means he’s 1) amazingly handsome since that’s the most notable thing about the
Seelies, and 2) a member of the Folk, descendants of European fairies who live
in the Rocky Mountain region. Teran has come to town to find members of the
Folk who need help, and he thinks Marika’s business partner and best friend,
Eva Winchester, may fall into that category. He brings along his assistant,
Reynard, another member of the Folk, and he ends up calling in his boss,
Bertie, who’s a full-fledged fairy prince. Moreover, Marika discovers that
Eva’s aunt Gudrun, whom she’s known for years, is actually a very talented
witch, head of the Durango coven.
Is it
any wonder that Marika begins to feel like the least special person around?
She’s continually looking for explanations so that she can understand what’s
going on. She also feels a little embarrassed by her own ordinariness. And I’d
argue that’s a very common feeling, certainly one I’ve had myself. She doesn’t
begrudge her friends their specialness, but she does wish she were a little
more extraordinary, too.
But
here’s the thing: in reality, Marika has a lot more going for her than she
realizes. Part of what happens in Unseen
is the revelation of Marika’s unique qualities. She really is someone quite
special. And isn’t that something we’d all like to see acknowledged about
ourselves? Marika is our stand-in, an ordinary person who really is
extraordinary deep down. I hope you’ll enjoy her story as much as you enjoy the
mysteries and plots swirling through Unseen.
Teran undergoes his own hero’s journey, but so does Marika. And hers takes
place inside.
