BLURB:
The
Vaelinel Trilogy continues with this absorbing sequel to Silevethiel! Alone and
hunted by the Drulaack, Irewen takes advantage of her only option for survival.
Pushing her concerns aside, she lets the dead keep her.
But
her refuge doesn't last long. Driven out of their hosts by Laegon, a handful
Drulaack have returned to the Spirit World. No longer having the protection of
the dead, Irewen is forced to return to Vaelinel.
Finally
reunited with her companions, the burdens placed on them are taking their toll.
Thoughts of suicide and mistrust plague the company. Slowly unravelling, they
must conquer their personal battles before standing against the evil
threatening the land.
For the Corrupter thirsts for revenge. And he'll stop at nothing
to satisfy his hunger.

EXCLUSIVE
EXCERPT:
Elthad
stood by the window staring at the bodies rotting in the courtyard below. The
conversation he’d had with the Corrupter before he’d sent the five people to
their deaths played continually in his mind.
He
sneered. Conversation. That was a laugh. He’d had no more say in the matter
than a bug had before being mercilessly squashed beneath someone’s foot. He’d
been given an order to kill the family, and his views of the matter were
totally irrelevant.
At
least he’d been allowed to have an opinion. Such luxuries were more infrequent
as of late. And even then, he couldn’t be totally certain which were his own
and which belonged to the spirit he was hosting. Everything blurred together
with no distinguishing features separating one being from the other.
Still,
he supposed he was among the lucky. Most of the others chosen as hosts had lost
all sense of themselves. The spirits dominating them took control of their
memories and thoughts to ensure they acted as normally as possible within
society, but nothing of the hosts’ sense of self-awareness remained. Elthad had
watched his closest friends and colleagues drift away, unable to stand against
the spirits’ power.
Even
Vel, his dearest friend and most gifted fighter hadn’t been able to stand
against the spirit’s influence. Every conversation he had with Vel drove him
mad. The voice belonged to his friend, but the words didn’t. It was like
speaking to an imposter. Like talking to someone who was already dead.
Even
now, thinking of the conversation they’d had only hours before constricted his
heart with guilt. Guilt that he’d somehow been able to keep a grain of his
identity when no one else had. Guilt that he partially blamed them for not
being strong enough to fight to maintain some control of their own thoughts.
Guilt that he sometimes wished he was like them—blissfully unaware of the
horrors they committed.
