Movie Magic
by Michelle Garren Flye

GENRE: Contemporary Romance

Sabrina Parker has spent her professional life creating unbelievable stunts and magical effects for movies and stage magicians. Now she needs some special magic to help her bring her movie to life. Her search leads her to the very unlikely stage of Walt Bryson, host of a long-running children’s television show in Beaufort, North Carolina.

Walt isn’t terribly happy about taking Hollywood’s call. He’s never sought the same notoriety as his colleagues Ian Logan and Andre Hawke. But there’s something about the beautiful, levelheaded Ms. Parker, and when he reads her screenplay, he knows he wants to work with her. For the first time in years, he’s willing to put tragedy behind him and make real magic.

Can Walt and Sabrina use love as their guide or will their past mistakes haunt their future?

She missed the pleasant buzz from the rum. The coffee cleared things up for her too much. Half of her really wanted nothing more than to drink rum and make out with him on this couch in the late afternoon sun while the deck below them bustled with waiters and the other pirates cleaning up from the afternoon. She really wanted to give in to some crazy impulse. She glared at the innocent cup of coffee. “I miss the rum.”

He laughed softly, brushing her hair back from her face, his fingers tangling briefly in the soft curls. “So do I.” His gaze flickered to her lips and she knew in that moment that she wouldn’t need the rum buzz to kiss him. Oh please, just kiss me already. The thought whispered in her heart, and all she could see for a breathless moment was his lips.

He brushed his thumb over her lips, so tenderly her belly filled with a melting fire. But then he backed away with a reluctant smile. “But maybe we don’t need rum, huh?”

She drew in a sharp breath, realizing dizzily that she’d stopped breathing several seconds before. “I guess not.” She bit her lip, straightening her spine and shoving away her disappointment. “We’ll have to watch that.”

This book was such a fun, charming, and quaint contemporary romance read!

This book is about Sabrina Parker a magic effects creator who has written a screenplay and is on a mission to create her dream movie.  However, in order to bring this project to light she needs the perfect magician!

This book is about Walt Bryson, a magician in small town Beaufort, North Carolina.  Sabrina finds herself in Beaufort and there is an instant spark between her and Walt that seals the deal for them as partners.

Sabrina and Walt begin working on the movie project together and it is obvious that there is chemistry between these two!  But will there be enough magic for these two to last off stage or is this relationship strictly professional?

This was a fun, enjoyable read!

I really liked the main characters, Sabrina and Walt.  They were genuine, kind, and likable.  Both characters had difficult backgrounds and brought that drama to the relationship.  Plus, there was quite a bit of back and forth, but, that’s real life, so it only made the characters seem more realistic.

There were lots of supporting characters that are shown as like little stories and relationships inside the main story.  It offers another dimension to the book, but also somewhat weighs down the storyline as some character’s stories just get lost in the background noise.  Not sure all those supporting characters were absolutely needed.

However, for the most part I really did enjoy Mrs. Flye’s writing style as she was superior on detail.  She carefully thought-out certain passages that when I read them I wasn’t reading them – I was seeing them!  Perhaps like my own little movie magic occurring!  Haha sorry couldn't resist!  And Beaufort has now made my travel bucket list as it was beautifully described and the main setting of this book.

Although this book is book four in the Sleight of Hand Book Series, it can absolutely be read on its own without any confusion or misunderstandings.  I had not read any of the previous books in the series and had no problem following along.  Although, it does sound like some of the characters cross over into the other books, no plot spoilers so after you enjoy this book, you can easily go back and get caught up from book one like I might be doing as well.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend this book to anyone interested in a fun, charming, quaint contemporary romance book!

  7. What was your favorite book growing up? Thanks for the giveaway. I hope that I win. Bernie Wallace BWallace1980(at)hotmail(d0t)com

    1. Hi Bernie! That's a great question. And really hard to answer! I had quite a few. Little Women, Anne of Green Gables, and Watership Down were three of my very favorites. The first books I remember loving were the Trixie Belden series I stole from my older brother, though!

  8. Well, it's the last day of your tour and I must say I've enjoyed meeting you and getting to know you and your book. Hope to see you on tour again soon.

  9. If you could have coffee with one guy author, and one girl author, who would you pick ?

    1. Oh, now this is fun. I'm assuming they don't have to be alive? Because for the guy, it'd have to be Mark Twain because it would NOT be boring. For the girl, I'd probably choose Alice Hoffman. I love her writing style!

  10. As my tour is over, I'm just stopping by one last time to thank everyone (hosts and visitors!) for reading and/or commenting! It's been great getting to know some new folks, and I hope to see you again. :)
