EXCERPT ONE:

Waiting for a Girl Like You

“I don’t know what Mrs. Smith told you but when she said ‘fresh face’ that was code for I don’t know what I’m doing. I’ve never done this before. Any of it. Not sex for hire. And certainly not BDSM. Much as I want to bolt, I need the money. So can we get this over with?”

Another dry chuckle. “You know how to get a man going.”

I glared at him through my bangs and hugged myself tighter. Music pulsed from the room next door, but I couldn’t say what the song was. Did they need a sound track to get going? The frazzled side of me surrendered to how little I knew about sex. Despite standing bravely, I was small and adrift on an unknown sea.

Surfer Man stepped within touching distance, his blue eyes on the verge of grey, lit with a strange mixture of hard shell and tender patience. A faint line traced the left side of his mouth like contempt came easy.

“First rule,” he said evenly. “You only talk when spoken to.”

“Then what am I supposed to call you?”

The question startled us both. I was throwing out the no names rule and for good reason. Something dawned on me. With the closed door, it was just the two of us. This square room was my island. Control could go either way. Surfer Man’s mouth opened, but an adrenaline rush took over and my hip cocked sideways. In the world of fight or flight, my body tensed with its version of fight.

“Oh, let me guess. You’re going to say Call me master or some crap like that. I work at a bookstore. I’ve read those please spank me Mr. Billionaire books.”

I liked a few of them. Reading the books was one thing. Living them was another.

One side of his mouth curved up. “Maybe you should tell me how you really feel.”

I exhaled slowly, blowing bangs off my forehead. No sense in telling him what I really thought. Talk about a mood killer. No man wanted to hear me say this place is for losers who can’t find a girl. Yet, this guy was no loser.

“Real billionaires don’t look like you do in those jeans of yours.”

He chuckled, his blue eyes flaring wider. “I’m no billionaire.”

Oh, but you are one hot man. Thankfully my filter worked and I kept that to myself.

INTERVIEW:

Good morning Gina!  Welcome to Fabulous and Brunette!  We are thrilled to have you here and can’t wait to learn more about you and your new book, “Waiting for a Girl Like You.”

First off, such a hot and intriguing book cover!  Tell us how it came about.
Thanks for hosting me. I’m happy to talk romance books. The Waiting for a Girl Like You cover came about because I wanted a kissing couple because the series name is Kissables. The wet on the beach part came because Abbie and Mark are in Laguna Niguel, a southern California beach town. There really isn’t much beach action though in the story.

What 3-5 words would you use to describe your book?
Hot. Deeply felt.

So this book is actually a two book set – with two different stories included.  Is there any connection or relation to these two stories or are they two completely separate stories?  Which couple is featured on the front cover?
They are two completely unrelated stories. I want to do a “what’s next” for both couples. Mark and Abbie are sort of the cover models (more Mark than Abbie because Abbie has long blonde hair and is younger than the cover model).

Let’s first talk about the first story, “Proper Care and Feeding of a Broken Heart.”  The main character, Abbie moonlights as a sex worker.  How does Abbie land in this line of work?
She shares her financial woes with a fast-living friend who puts her in touch with “Mrs. Smith” the woman who runs the brothel.

There is so much chemistry and passion between Abbie and Mark.  It basically leaps off the page.  What was your inspiration for these two character’s relationship?
They took on a life of their own, didn’t they? It was intense! I knew a woman who moonlighted in a job similar to what Abbie did, but any similarity ends there. Writing Mark and Abbie in first person helped with deep dives into both characters.

Abbie and Mark both have some baggage.  Do you think this common ground brings them closer or makes things more complicated?
I think it made things more complicated. Abbie’s a straight arrow to Mark’s random, squiggly line.

Now, let’s shift to the second story, “Anything But Safe.”  The main character, Jennifer, a former trophy wife, is looking for change and a new life.  What are some of Jennifer’s characteristics?
She’s a social butterfly type with insecurities. Her current life circumstances feel like shifting ground and she has to decide to keep going on the old path that made her unhappy or strike out on new ground.

I love that Jennifer and AJ bring out the best in each other.  That’s truly what one always wants in their partner.  To have your other half make you want to be the best version of yourself.  This couple also has steamy passion scenes.  What was your inspiration for these two character’s relationship?
A chance parking lot encounter years ago was the seed for Jennifer and AJ (and a class conflict in romance talk).

What is your favorite chapter or section of the book in either or both stories?
I love Mark and Abbie’s first meet when she gets nervous and a tad snarky. She tells Mark she works in a bookstore and knows about those “please spank me Mr. Billionaire” books. You just have to read the scene to fully appreciate the banter.

Give us an interesting fun fact about your book.
These are two of the fastest stories I’ve ever written.

As an author, what is your favorite word you love to include in your books?
Love!

Do you write your books with a pen or type writer or computer?
Pen and computer.

For your own reading, do you prefer ebooks or traditional paper/hard back books?
I prefer paperback novels first, ebooks second.

What book(s) are you currently reading?
Non-fiction: Deep Work and Fiction: Wolf and the Dove by Kathleen Woodiwiss (one of my throwback favorites).

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Life is good. Why not?

What is your favorite flavor of ice-cream?
Talenti’s Coconut

Yum!  Good choice!  Talenti’s makes such incredible ice-creams!

What is your favorite TV show?
It’s a tie between “Fixer-Upper” and “Vikings”

What is your favorite movie?
Gladiator

Such a classic!  Great choice!

What advice would you give to aspiring writers?
Get in the habit of writing and with your first draft, let the writing flow. Kick your inner editor to the curb with your first draft.

What's next for you? What are you working on now?
What’s next are two Georgian romances from the Midnight Meetings series releasing this year, Meet a Rogue at Midnight (October) and The Lord Meets His Lady (December).

Right now I’m working on a Georgian/Highlander proposal set in 1753 and my Forgotten Sons series (Viking romance) sold so I’m balancing both projects at once.

Wow it sounds like you are quite busy!  But it also sounds like it’s going to be a very successful year for you as you have lots of exciting new projects coming up!

Thank you so much for spending time with Fabulous and Brunette readers and sharing your exciting new book with us!  We wish you all the best on your book tour!
Thanks again for having me!
