Temptation Trials Revolution:
Men's POV
(The Tempted Series #1)
by B. Truly

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Adult, Dystopian, Romance & Urban Fantasy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

There are always two sides to a story. Can love withstand the ultimate temptation?

A new Regime has arisen from the havoc and destruction of World War III. Society now has to follow the strict mandates, reign under the dictatorship of His Highest Eminence or suffer the consequences.

Tobias and Kincade are part of a cryptic organization that’s trying to uncover the secrets behind the Regime. Something is suspicious with the new world order—why else would they want to control the most powerful emotion of love? With mandatory arranged marriages at the age of twenty-one, the only way to fight for love is through the Temptation Trials—a government-sponsored reality TV show.

Kincade and Tobias know the rules, but after they meet the women of their dreams, they face a difficult decision. With their impending birthdays around the corner, the guys have to decide if they will bend to the Regime’s will or fight for their relationships.

Lust, mistaken for love, will lead to down a treacherous path. They soon learn that the spirit may be willing, but the flesh is weak.

Can love save their souls, or is lust too tempting?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT TWO:
The media had been buzzing all week about the governor’s daughter coming of age, and she would be married off to some clown in New Zealand. A whole other country half a world away—the Regime knew no boundaries.
When my uncle Marcus first got wind of the protest, it was only Cindy, her man, and a small group of her friends. He sent us to scope out the scene discreetly. This courthouse was the primary location used for most standard arranged marriage applications and all Temptation Trial apps. Yep … that’s how corrupt our Regime operated. At the age of twenty-one, every citizen had to fill out a marriage app so the government could choose your spouse. Even more twisted was that divorce was not allowed, so you were stuck with the person whom you’d never even met for life. It was all about control.
Now a slew of folks had joined the cause, shouting and cheering for Cindy. Others were yelling their own proclamations of justice. Rebellion against the strict laws had been stirring up for many years—this just definitely wasn’t the way to voice your opinion.
Enforcement had the entire perimeter around the courthouse surrounded, waiting on orders from their superior on how to handle the situation. My crew and I stood outside of the danger zone, but we were still close enough to see. Under normal circumstances, the officers would’ve already pounced.
Cindy and Gary raised their posters higher, yelling and demanding that control over love had to cease. Several courthouse staff were in front of the building, peeping at the scene. Loud, blazing sirens infiltrated the area. A cop car and black SUVs whipped around the corner, coming to a screeching halt. A large group of enforcement got out of the vans, rushing over to the throng. They were all dressed in black—shirts, pants, and combat boots. Helmets covered their faces, and they held large metal shields with clubs. A short, pudgy man eased out of the car. Prancing over to the crowd like he owned the parking lot, the tool lifted his bullhorn.
“This is your only warning! Leave now or everyone here will face the penalty,” Mr. Bullhorn advised.
BOOK REVIEW:
This book was a fun, interesting, and entertaining insight into the men’s point-of-view while journeying into the mystery to uncover the secrets behind the government imposing a new mandate of arranged marriages and controlling the most powerful emotion - love.
B. Truly had previously released a similarly written book, with the same title, that is told from the women’s point-of-view.  But as we know, every story has two sides, so this book was written to tell the men’s side of things and give the men’s point-of-view for the record.
I hadn’t read the ladies side, which I was thinking would be a good thing, as I was worried it would have a lot of overlap.  However, even not having read it, it actually seems like though the overall storyline, plot, and characters of course remained the same – the interactions, conversations, and character thoughts were different – making this like a whole new book.
I actually enjoyed the men’s point-of-view side for the most part.  As a young, single, female being able to gain insight into the male mind is always intriguing – especially if it can give you an upper hand down the road lol.  Unfortunately, I found it more unrealistic at times, as this book had Kincade and Tobias constantly thinking about their ladies and going on and on about them.  Yes, it would be nice if that were true – to some degree – but it seems highly unlikely – plus it got annoying.
Also, Kincade and Tobias were a bit short on their details.  Typical guy details lol.  I’m just used to books with long-winded descriptive details about scenes and settings and with these guys it was like, “the house was blue,” lol.
However, there was a little bit of an exception.  B. Truly, was able to do some impressive world-building that was decently described for the guy’s capabilities.
With this book being an adult romance book and being from a guys point-of-view, I knew there was probably going to be quite a few sex scenes – that would be an understatement lol.  More like a lot lol!!  This book is full of intense sexual content and love triangles.  I am not a prude, but this book definitely had me blushing lol…
I really liked the storyline concept and found it very intriguing!
Although, I thought there would be more of a mystery to it, as the guys went undercover to find out why the government created this new arranged marriage mandate and started controlling the most powerful emotion – love.  Yes, there was some mystery and suspense, I guess I just wanted more.  This storyline and plot were set-up for it and really could have gone that way, but it didn’t fully hit the potential that I thought it could have.
Love is always worth fighting for and I enjoyed following the story and cheering for the characters!
The writing style is fluid, well developed, and at a steady pace.
Please note that this book is strongly rated 18+ as it contains adult situations, adult language, intense sexual content, love triangles, etc.
So, technically this book is the listed as book one in The Tempted Book Series, but it’s more like book one point five, since the woman’s point-of-view is also book one and it came out first.  I had not read the woman’s point-of-view book before reading this book.  I did not get lost or confused, so this book can be read as a standalone.  However, there are so many references to the previous book and it’s best to get both sides of the story.  So, I would suggest reading both books, but it seems you can read them in any order.
All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend this book to all adult, dystopian, romance, urban fantasy readers!
Life Without Shoes
by Emma Cyrus
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: Mystery

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
In the great tradition of The Name of the Rose, the Brother Cadfael mysteries and Grantchester, Life Without Shoes confronts a modern-day monastic with a horrifying crime.
Father Ambrose has found a simple life leading a spiritual community in Northern California. He spends his days on guiding the farming and teaching meditation. Then, someone dumps a body in one of their orchards.
Now, the violence of the modern world has come crashing through the gates. He wants Sheriff Charlie Cormley to believe the body has nothing to do with them, but it’s not that easy. He must take on the role of sleuth to protect his community and find the truth. He finds himself moving out into the world in ways he never imagined, and life at New Life will never be the same.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT TWO:

“Please have a seat,” Cormley said. “You visited with Redmond after we saw you. How’d that go?”

“Well, probably not the way you’d like. He gave me more information, but he asked me not to share it with you.”

Gus slammed his palm on the table just as Ruth was putting down bowls of ice cream. The bowls sloshed and she jumped back, startled. “I’m sorry, Ruth. I’m just frustrated. Not with you. Not with this fantastic-looking treat. Just how this guy is jerking us around.”

For a moment, there was quiet. Is he talking about me or Redmond? Ambrose wondered.

“Gus...” the sheriff started. This was one of the reasons he tried to protect his wife. Tempers could flare in the department in a difficult case. He never wanted her to bear the brunt, even unintentionally. But, of course, she wasn’t naïve or thin-skinned.

“Detective, I appreciate this is a tough one. But, please, not at my table,” she said quietly but with firmness.

“I do apologize, Ruth. And to both of you,” Gus said, looking across the table at Cormley and Ambrose. “Totally uncalled-for. Please, Father. Continue.”

Ambrose nodded. “I think I can give you the big picture without breaking my promise to Redmond. His lawyer should be motivated to cooperate with you on looking at Golden. In a nutshell, there’s supposedly a financial connection between Redmond and Golden. Golden used that to get Redmond involved. The killing was unintentional. Golden definitely has a role.”

“That’s it? That’s all you can say?” Gus asked, still agitated.

GUEST POST:

Who Inspired My Love of Books?

Both my parents were great readers, so I think perhaps I inherited a reading gene. I started picking up books and magazines when I was three or four years old, demanding that my mother read them to me, so I could follow along with my finger and learn the words. By the time I got to first grade, I think I was already at third-grade level, so school was often boring. This was in the 1950’s, and teachers had no knowledge about how to work with a diverse group of students.

My parents had subscriptions to Life Magazine, Time Magazine, and The New Yorker, so I’d try to get through those every week once I got to junior high school. And, of course, by then, I’d already burned my way through lots of the Nancy Drew Mysteries, starting a lifelong involvement with the genre I write in. By the time I was in high school, I was reading Agatha Christie as my relief from jam-packed studying. There were assigned books like Shakespeare’s plays and Catcher in the Rye, but literature never grabbed me the way mysteries did.

I also started some fiction writing assigned by my English teacher. One story in particular seemed to bubble up from some place inside me that I didn’t quite recognize. It was a little spooky, and I got a taste for exploring the dark side of characters.

Once I got to college, I was so overwhelmed with the work, I don’t think I had time to look at any fiction at all. From that point on, through graduate school and out into the working world, I only wrote non-fiction. But as soon as I had some free time, I started reading mysteries again. I finished the Agatha Christies and went on to other authors under the generic umbrella of the Golden Age of Detective Fiction: Margery Allingham, Dorothy L. Sayers, Ngaio Marsh, Georges Simenon, P.D. James, Mignon G. Eberhart.

Later in life, I picked up some new favorites—Elizabeth Peters, Elizabeth George, Anne Perry, Alexander McCall Smith, Michael Connelly, Jonathan Kellerman, Patricia Cornwell, Janet Evanovich, Christopher Fowler, Ben Aaronovitch, Harry Kemelman, Sue Grafton, Kathy Reichs, Gay Hendricks, Eliot Pattison, Tony Hillerman, Dick Francis, M.L. Longworth, Alan Bradley, Ann Cleeves, Laurie R. King, Donna Leon, H.R.F. Keating, Colin Cotterill. I’d also trade with my dad, who liked James Patterson, John Grisham and John Le Carré.

Yes, whenever I can, mysteries are what I pick up, although I have strayed to nearby pathways for Harry Potter, The Name of the Rose, An Instance of the Fingerpost, and, more recently, My Absolute Darling, The Tattooist of Auschwitz, and The Reluctant Fundamentalist.

So, I inherited the reading bug from my family (I can still see them sitting in the living room reading in the evening). But I learned to love books by being a voracious reader. And I learned to write mystery books by reading and studying the masters.

AUTHOR BIO:

Emma was born in West Virginia and lived there until she was in high school, when her family moved to Pittsburgh. After high school, she went to Boston to go to college. She worked in different small and startup businesses until she moved into a yoga community in Pennsylvania. There, she’s worked on various projects and taught yoga.

She started the Father Ambrose series as a way of pulling together her love of good mystery stories with her deepening appreciation of the real-life magic and mystery of inner work. Father Ambrose has many characteristics in common with the leaders of her community, but his voice is probably hers, or at least what she thinks her voice would be, if she were living inside the parameters of his life.

She’s discovering the compelling nature of writing fiction and the surprises of working with what other writers have called their ‘muse.’ The creative process seems to have its own timetable and logic. The best results seem to come from stilling her own personal voice and allowing that ‘muse’ to speak.

GENRE: Paranormal Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Raven Hunter, a musical prodigy, flees to the Hawaiian Islands to pick up the pieces after her marriage to her manager collapses. Instead, she experiences extraordinary and unsettling events that are beyond her understanding.
Living in paradise, marine biologist, Finn Taylor has the unconscious but effortless ability to understand the needs of the animals he cares for. His playboy lifestyle is most men's fantasy. That is, until the night he meets the shy and elusive new island resident. Suddenly his life no longer feels like his own.
The attraction is undeniable. Will they accept their destiny and begin the quest of a lifetime or will they remain in their comfortable yet separate existence?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT TWO:

"Where's the one place you've never been?" Que asked, trying to keep her on track.

“Someplace you've always wanted to go to?" Wyatt asked. Enjoying herself, Raven turned pink.

"You'll think it's stupid."

"No, I won't," both said in unison.

"I've never been to Hawai‘i."

"Hawai‘i?" Que's brow furrowed. "That's here. Don't you wanna go to, like, the Bahamas or something? How have you not been to Hawai‘i?"

"Donovan always wanted to play the massive arenas and big cities, and for some unfathomable reason that didn't include the islands."

"You should do it then. Take some time, figure it out."

"What about my tour dates?"

"You'll get ‘em from, whoever, then call and cancel them. Hell, you can even interview new people to run the works while you're there. You're in the position to do that now, Rave. People would fall all over themselves to come to you. The point is to go away and figure it all out."
She bit her bottom lip and thought about all the problems this idea would bring until her brother spoke the next words.

"What're you afraid of Rave? What do you have lose?"

GUEST POST:

Five Reasons Why You Should Buy The Sea Archer?

What a fantastic question and one I've never been asked before!

Okay, so number one. I’m a new author. I suppose this could be good or bad. However, I think it's usually a good thing. Personally, I enjoy reading something from the ground up. I was a Diana Gabaldon fan before she was Outlander and it was a fun ride to go on with her! Not that I’m Diana Gabaldon, but I do have a lot of stories to share and am just getting started. I’ve been told I have a great ability to write dialogue, in a true-to-life way. Dialect and syntax are fun things to explore and I want my characters to speak like real people do, complete with awkward pauses and idiosyncrasies. So far, my characters have been a little removed from the norm or what’s expected of them and that’s deliberate because I love the little things that make people unique.

Number two, The Sea Archer is different. Many paranormal books are similar in subject matter. There's absolutely nothing wrong with those books or stories but things can become saturated. I believed the Greek gods would be fun because you don’t see them as much and if you do, they’re the actual Greek gods. So, I also wanted it to have a kind of Percy Jackson meets Nora Roberts way about it. Finally, I liked the idea that the characters don’t know they’re special or even believe anything they've been tasked to do. I mean it makes a quest harder, doesn’t it? You must believe in a quest to thwart it, so already there’s conflict.

Number three, the books of The Heaven & Earth Series build off each other. The Sea Archer is a romance with paranormal elements rather than a straight up paranormal romance and that’s intentional. I want this series to take the reader on a journey. The characters, as I stated above, don’t necessarily believe in quests or Greek gods. It’s like your own grandma saying to you over breakfast, "You’re the descendent of Athena. Now go do some stuff to free her and all the other Greek gods from the depths of hell because if you don’t, they’ll unleash the last remaining evils upon the earth." You might roll your eyes, pat her on the head or possibly call for a psych evaluation, if you discerned she was really serious. So, there’s a significant level of unknown, then as the series progresses, it enlightens you as a reader just like it illuminates the characters. First, you learn the basics, then a bloom of understanding happens, and then you grow more proficient. Each story has its journey, but the series is the reader becoming proficient in the quest.

Number four, you get to learn about a fascinating topic. When I was younger, I remember learning about the Greek gods and as I said before they can be overwhelming. There are so many crazy stories about adultery, incest, trickery, and epic battles, to say nothing of all the weird names, categories, and occupations. What's a primordial versus a deity versus a personification? My daughter, Paisley, just returned from Greece and it was so interesting hearing about her guides there and the people she spoke to. There are so many that believe in the gods as a kind of religion and still hold yearly festivals to honor them. That’s really cool. What I love about the Greek gods is that they are very flawed and clueless. They are supposed to be these massively omnipotent beings, yet Zeus can barely think outside his pants, Hera, see past her jealousy, Athena takes everything too seriously and Hermes, nothing at all seriously.

Finally, number five the story and the series is empowering. Unfortunately, I can’t go into too much detail about how it’s empowering but in some ways, it’s not quite what you’ll expect and I’ll just leave it at that.

Thank you, thank you to the "Fabulous Brunette," for hosting me today, I really loved that question! And thank you to the readers, I hope my answers were fun, and they have persuaded you to give The Sea Archer a chance and invest some time in it. I’m so grateful you stopped by today. Cheers!
