A thunderous bang shocked Michael Donovan from his light doze. Heart thudding in his chest, he scanned the area and spotted a large brown tome, open face up on the floor. The darn thing must have been sloppily placed on its shelf. He picked it up—nineteenth-century courthouses, many of them still in use. He was fond of sharing such tidbits of information with anyone interested. Not many were these days.

The library of the Blake County Historical Society was otherwise utterly silent. There had been no visitors that day, or the day before, or the day before that. The small museum on the lower level occasionally still received visitors, but scarcely anyone ever made it up to the archives and library department.

Michael glanced at the clock on the wall: twenty minutes before closing time—finally! On his timeworn desk, a book he had been reading to pass the time, something about the unsung heroes of World War II, lobbied for his attention. He put it in the top drawer. In another instant, he would have turned off the lights, but he heard the distinctive sound of the door chime announcing that someone had come in.

He turned around to see a blond woman in her mid-twenties, very attractive, with green, catlike eyes, and a captivating aura of sophistication and grace.

MY BOOK REVIEW:

Simply put, this book series is beyond adorable; but these books are anything but simple or ordinary. This book series is jam packed full of energy, excitement, and adventure that is sure to engage and entice readers of all ages!!! Luna is sure to win over your heart as you turn the pages and find that a fun adventure is closer than you may think!!! The creative storytelling and beautifully crafted illustrations are the cherry on top of an already successfully written children's book series!!!

In Book One, “Where Did Luna Go?” focuses obviously on the implied title of Luna going missing. As any pet owner knows, not being able to find your furbaby can be very scary. However, this is more of a fun, hide-and-seek adventure as we join Luke searching for his dog, Luna. As we climatically anticipate Luna’s whereabouts, we follow along with Luke as he diligently checks behind the sofa, under the bed, in the laundry room, etc. This story features crafty rhymes and easy to accentuate lines. “Where did Luna Go? I do not know,” can amusingly be emphasized and drawn out for exciting, dramatic pause while reading the story aloud. With only 26 short eBook pages, this book is certainly a winner for an enjoyable bedtime story!!!

In Book Two, “Luna Loves Biscuits,” this book focuses on Luna and her friend and next-door neighbor, smelly Ollie dog. Ollie is a bit on the sly side, so when Luna tells Ollie that she discovers Lilly has accidently left the dog treat jar open, Ollie is more than happy to help team up and craft a plan to steal them. Unlike book one, this book has a stronger built-in moral dilemma lesson. I love when authors implement these very important life lessons into stories. It’s vital for children to learn these teachings and when they can be snuck into a fun story, even better!! This book hits on honesty, trust, good vs. evil, right vs. wrong, friendship, etc. – all very important and beneficial principals to be learned!!! And with also only 26 short eBook pages this book is ideal to be added to any child’s reading list!!!

This exciting new book series clearly offers the reader enjoyable, exciting, fun, and wholesome learning value!!! While the author, Stephanie Hewitt, self-confesses to being new on the author scene, it appears that her strong, creative storytelling skills are perhaps the result of being a mother of two or from the inspiration of owning real life dog Luna from the book series!!! Wherever this “new,” author gets her abilities, it is clear she and this adorable book series, are sure to be a success!!! I can’t wait to see what she does with the series and look forward to reading her next upcoming books!!!

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book series and would absolutely recommend it!!! I think all young readers (and even those not so young lol!!!) will like these books too!!! So, add them to your TBR List and get to reading - you won't be disappointed!!!

The woman glanced over. “I’m Emma, by the way. Thank you for helping me.”

“I’m Vain.”

Emma blinked and positioned the rear-view mirror so it showed Vain her reflection. “Is that better?”

Vain shook her head. “My name. My actual name is Vain.”

“Are you, like, a street artist?”

Vain sighed. “I’m just me.”

“How did you know who those men were? How did you know they were after me?”

“They’re not men,” replied Vain. “They’re things. Their name is Wyatt. Their only job is to find people like you and take them back to a place called the Hotel. It’s a place I escaped from.”

“How are they all called Wyatt? Why do they look the same?”

“They’re from alternate Earths.” Vain waved her hand, shooing away the explanation.

“I don’t believe you,” Emma said. “I’m sorry. I know I’m supposed to humor crazy, but I’m exhausted. Please tell me the truth.”

“How about this? You go first. Explain how you threw a person with your mind in a way that doesn’t violate a couple dozen natural laws, and once you’re done, I’ll come up with a better explanation for duplicate psychopaths from various incarnations of Earth.”

The Craziest Thing I’ve Done in the Name of Research

This book is a simple tale about a time-displaced Hotel on the edge of time where people are turned into Human Batteries. I know what you're thinking. This again?

The story follows the adventure of Vain, the only person to ever escape from the Hotel at the End of Time. I knew it wasn't enough to write a hilarious character that goes on some of the most entertaining adventures you can read about. No, to really understand her motivation, I knew I'd need to create a Portal to a Hotel on edge of time, to get a feel for the place. It wasn't enough to imagine it; I needed to live it.

FYI - it's awful. The horror was unrelenting. As in, the horror refused to relent. Not even for a second.

I can't tell you exactly how I created this magic Portal, but the details are covered in some fair amount of detail in the book. I can tell you this much - frogs do not play as significant a role as you'd expect. Seriously, like you need zero frogs. I know! I couldn't believe it either and I don't want to tell you how many frogs I went through in the early days before I figured this out (hint: a lot).

For the second book, The Well at the Bottom of Everything, I had to research bra underwire. I am not making this up. I actually learned how to pick locks using bra underwire. It is almost, but not quite, impossible.

AUTHOR BIO:

Michael James spent his formative years writing, and when he wasn't writing, he was writing. A mistaken belief that a "real" job would be more satisfying led him down a dark path that did not involve writing but did involve meetings. Fortunately, he has since course-corrected and is back on the right (write? Ha!) path. The Hotel at the End of Time is not his first book, but it is the one with the most Hotels in it.

He lives in Canada with his family. When he's not writing, he does Canadian things - saying sorry a lot, being polite, talking about the weather, you know how it goes.
