GENRE: Contemporary Romance

BLURB:

A wild Vegas fling isn't the traditional Thanksgiving celebration, and Lily and Jason have been like oil and water since they met. Blaming their steamy hook-up on too many shots at the bar, they head home.

Back in the real world, Jason wonders if he's ready to give up his crown as the Playboy King of Rivers Bend to be with just one woman. And Lily has enough on her plate right now without adding Jason Braden to the mix, even if their attraction is crazy-strong.

But life is good at throwing curveballs, and a lot can happen between Thanksgiving and Valentine's Day. Maybe even enough to lead these two polar opposites home to each other in Rivers Bend.

EXCERPT TWO:

She jumped at a loud knock on the back door, and she dropped the white blouse she’d been holding. Who could possibly be here? She wasn’t expecting anyone, and there was a gate with a code someone would have to get through to come up to the house.

She chuckled as she picked her way through the laundry on the floor. Maybe she’d been wishing so hard for Indian food her thoughts summoned a deliveryman to miraculously appear at her kitchen door with a container of biryani.

In the brightly lit kitchen, she peered out the windows to see who was there, but only saw her own reflection, in the flannel pjs with the pink flamingos on them her friend Roni had given her as a farewell present when she left Baltimore. She hadn’t bothered to style her hair after her shower, she’d just shoved it back with a stretchy headband, and she wore fuzzy, pink socks on her feet. At best, her look could be described as eccentric, and she hoped it was Heather, Bethanne or Magda at the door––it would be too mortifying to be caught by a stranger in this ensemble.

She flipped the switch to turn on the porchlight, and her stomach plummeted to her pink socks at the sight of the person it illuminated.

Jason freakin’ Braden.

At her back door, with a pizza in his hands and a wicked grin on his handsome face.

GUEST POST:

What’s in a Title? How to Create an Intriguing and Eye-catching Book Title:

As a writer, I spend a lot of time on Twitter. Writing is a solitary business, and Twitter is a great way to connect with readers and other writers. Some of the writers I follow are friends of mine, and some are super best-selling authors whom I admire. One of the latter tweeted a couple of months ago about titles for her books. Her publisher titles her books, which amazed me. Before I begin writing, I spend a lot of time trying to come up with a title that perfectly fits my book. And I’ve been lucky to have a publisher who has allowed me to do so. Even with the one title they asked me to change, because it was too similar to another book they’d recently published, I worked with the senior editor of the line to come up with a new title.

I’m probably a total weirdo in this regard, and most likely in other ways too, but today’s topic is only titles so my other eccentricities will have to wait for another day, but I loveloveLOVE to think of a title. I do it before I even begin to write the story. I think about my ideas for the book, and what the overall theme is––in a lot of my books, it’s home, and how we can make our home wherever we land and with whomever we choose. It might be your hometown, or somewhere far away, and family can be chosen as well as the one into which you’re born. But, I digress…back to titles.  Once I have those ideas percolating in my brain, I do an online search for quotations related to my theme. This next part is harder to define and quantify, because I depend a lot on instinct. I try to find a phrase that catches my attention and jumps off the page at me crying out read me, read me! The other two books in my Rivers Bend trilogy are both based on quotes.

But my latest release, What Was I Thinking, actually came about in a slightly different way. I just knew it was the title for this story. The book actually begins with a wild fling between the main characters in Las Vegas. In previous Rivers Bend stories, these two characters, Lily and Jason, seriously hated each other…like, the cross-the-street-so-they-don’t-have-to-talk-to-each-other kind of hate. The tone of the book is flirty, fun, and funny, and the expression ‘what was I thinking’, was a perfect fit.

I learned on Twitter that I’m lucky to have a publisher who allows me to come up with my own titles for my books. And by the way…if you’re ever on Twitter, here’s how you can find me…https://twitter.com/donna_simonetta. Hope to see you there!

GENRE: Contemporary Erotic Romance

BLURB:

Phoebe needs a second chance at life.

In the aftermath of the devastation from her failed marriage, Phoebe returns to her old stomping grounds to open her own bed and breakfast. Starting over is the bravest thing she’s ever done – or so she thinks. But opening her front door to find a blast from her past on her front porch changes all that. The teenager she’d once known has become a jaw-dropping, dominant man in his prime.

He wasn’t looking for a relationship until she blazed back into his life.

Graham runs his own construction business, remodeling homes, and building brand new ones. When his buddy gives him a lead on a new project, he never expects to run into Phoebe, the woman he shared a single kiss with eons ago. Nor is he prepared for the Dominant in him to stake his claim before the end of their first meeting. He wanted her in high school but there had been too wide a gulf separating them. Now, Graham will stop at nothing until he makes her his. But there are larger forces at work, attempting to tear them apart.

When everything Phoebe holds dear becomes a target, Graham will risk it all for the one woman he knows he can never live without.

Publisher’s Note: This steamy second chance romance contains elements of power exchange. While it is the second in the Crescent City Kings series, it can be enjoyed independently.

EXCERPT TWO:

“Graham? Graham Layton, is that really you? You’re the contractor Dante recommended?” Joy filtered into her voice as she stared at the blast from her past. It had been almost nineteen years since the night of the winter formal in high school. The night she had always considered one of the best of her life.

Surprise filtered over his handsome features. A grin split his face wide and his thick, dark chestnut brows rose to nearly beneath his hairline, almost touching the Rayban sunglasses shoved on top of his head. There were tiny laugh lines around his eyes that crinkled.

“Phoebe, as I live and breathe. Well, aren’t you a sight?” Graham dismissed all formalities, stepped through the doorway, and surrounded her with an effusive hug. She stiffened at the impromptu embrace, but only for a moment, because the delight of seeing him overrode her internal panic button.

She caught a whiff of him, a sinful mixture of man with traces of his soap, a spicy, exotic fragrance that made her want to bury her face in his chest and just inhale him. The boy she’d known on the cusp of manhood in the intervening years had grown into a powerfully built man. A very hot man, with a killer smile and a body that made her dead hormones rise from their early grave and pay attention before he released her. It left her dumbstruck: the sudden onslaught of disappointment that rose in her chest when he released her.

Wasn’t that just the oddest thing?

“It’s great to see you. If I’d known it was you…”

Graham gave a manly half-shrug as he stepped back. “It is a surprise—a nice one, to boot.”

Then he knelt, resting his elbows on his knees so that he was at eye level with Daisy, and held his hand out for her to sniff. “And who is this?”

“Daisy, this is Graham. He’s a friend.” Daisy glanced up at her for the okay, her golden eyes searching Phoebe’s face. When Phoebe nodded in the affirmative, Daisy’s stance relaxed, and she turned into a normal, goofy dog. She snuffled Graham’s hand, and then lavished his face with a few swipes of her pink tongue against his cheek before falling at his rather large feet as he stroked her fur and gave her a belly rub. Euphoria emanated from Daisy. And, for a split second, Phoebe wondered what it would feel like to have Graham rub her belly—and further south.

“Beautiful dog.” Graham rose with Daisy following him up into a sitting position from which she stared at him with adoration. “I cannot believe you’re the one who bought Riverland Plantation. When Dante gave me your name, it didn’t ring any bells.”

“Same. I didn’t realize you were G.C. Layton of Layton Construction. For me, it’s the last name that’s different. Probably why my name didn’t sound familiar to you.” Quite a few other things had changed as well, like that she no longer believed in love or happily ever after, or that she could depend on anyone but herself.

EXCERPT ONE:

(From Chapter 1, 404 words)

My favorite coffee shop was a block from the subway station, and as soon as I reached the street level, I felt the rain. It fell in sheets, soaking everything and everyone in its path. It was a quiet shower, not just in the way it barely made a sound as it pelted the concrete and metal comprising Midtown West Manhattan, but also as it seemed to mute the normal noises we New Yorkers expected of our surroundings…the honking, the chatting, the clanking of machinery.

I smiled at the beauty of it, but once the first drop hit my hair, I shrieked and ran as fast as my Louboutin heels could carry me. Traffic forced me to stop at the next light, but I resumed my dash as soon as the intersection cleared, weaving haphazardly amidst a crowd of people holding everything from newspapers and briefcases over their heads. I was comforted only by the fact that clearly, no one else had thought to bring an umbrella today either.

Finally, with the coffee shop in sight, I smiled again, only to have the heel of my shoe stick in a drainage grate.

I grunted, apologized to the people whose path I was blocking, and tugged, but the shoe stuck firmly. I needed a better angle to unwedge the shoe, and the only way to achieve that would involve stepping out of the shoe and placing my bare foot on the dirty sidewalk. Unable to stomach that option, I futilely wrenched harder. My clothes and hair were already drenched, and the water pooling around my forehead was starting to drip into my eyes and obscure my view of the trapped shoe. My pride had taken a hit, but I had to retrieve my shoe without harming it. Sure, it was last year’s design that I’d bought on sale, but any Louboutin, even one on sale, was a chunk of change.

Suddenly, the rain stopped. I glanced up, as though expecting to see that God himself had performed this valued miracle, but instead, I simply saw an umbrella held firmly over my head. A man, the bearer of the umbrella, crouched down beside me.

“Let me try,” he offered, in a dreamy British accent. With a quick twist of his wrist, the shoe popped free. I stumbled backwards as the shoe came loose, and the man steadied me gracefully, a quick “whoopsie daisy,” escaping his lips.
