EXCERPT ONE:

“This body looks as if it has been chewed on--the edges of the throat lacerations are ragged and similar to a previous body that was brought in bearing the same type of teeth marks. A computer 3D model of the wounds on the second body, in front of me, determined the wounds to be made by the teeth of a large canine. However, The DNA test of the saliva left behind has been inconclusive.”

Dr. Violetta paused the tape recorder. “I have never seen anything like it,” she said to her assistant Andrew. “Take a look at the slide I have on the microscope. You’ll see.”

Andrew studied the cells on the microscope and wrote some notes in his typical scrawl that only he could read while Dr. Violetta started recording again.

“Cells separated from a human body die in moments. These cells scraped from the saliva on this body’s wounds have continued to divide and multiply, indicating that the cells are still living. Also, the DNA strands continually rearrange their structure without any outside influence. This is why it has proved impossible to conclusively determine which type of animal caused the damage to this body.” She stopped the recorder.

“This has to be kept out of the media,” she whispered, shaking her head in horrified disbelief.

"Where did this one come from?" Andrew asked, looking up from the microscope.

"He was found in Central Park."

AUTHOR BIO:

EXCERPT THREE:

Amari had never seen a dragon before…at least not from what she could remember. Muscle rolled beneath glistening scales. Front claws, consisting of sharp, black talons, shimmered like polished stone. Beautiful translucent wings rippled in the sunlight, tapering down to a powerful tail. Her body quivered over the breathtaking spectacle in front of her.

She skimmed her fingers over a large, amber eye, well away from the razor-sharp teeth. Aside from a slight twitch, the beast stilled at her touch. In a brazen move, she planted her palms on each side of its face. “You are way more magnificent than the lioness.”

The dragon growled, shooting vibrations up her arms. She snatched her hands off its face and backpedaled until she butted up against the rock. Her heart rabbited in her chest.

She had just touched a dragon.

She glanced sideways. If she ran, maybe she’d reach the trees before it could catch her…assuming it wouldn’t just torch her. As if reading her mind, the beast snarled.

“Please, don’t eat me.”

In a flash of light, the dragon shimmered and lost shape. To her surprise, Lord Blackthorn stepped from the brightness, and his hands slammed down on each side of her head, sandwiching her against the rock. Tension rolled off his shoulders, and fear crawled up her spine.

She almost preferred her chances with the dragon.

Chapter 2

By the time I get back to dancing with Dean, I feel something, someone, watching me. The feeling I felt before my speech is stronger now. There’s something consuming my surroundings—an invisible, sweltering blanket over me. As soon as I have the chance, I look around and try to find the source of this feeling—the burning eyes I can’t see, yet, but I sense are focused on me.

I casually scan the room between dips and twirls.

My breath catches. There they are—the eyes I’ve been searching for. A man, a gorgeous man, in a perfectly tailored suit is staring at me. It’s no mistake. Now that I see him, I know his eyes are the source of this feeling I’ve been having.

There are worse people to have stare at you. He might be a little older, but he’s very attractive. He wears his dark brown hair slicked and styled up and back. It looks soft enough to run my fingers through and short enough to create a little edge to it. His blackish gray suit blends in with his olive, tan skin. Every part of him is dark and smoky, except his eyes. His turquoise-blue eyes are so bright; they’re like headlights shining at me. A lighthouse warning me not to come too close or my boat will crash.

REVIEW:

Wow!  Wow!  Wow!  I totally loved this book!  It was the perfect afternoon read.  And yes – I meant that as singular as I did indeed read this book in just one afternoon sitting lol.  I could not put it down!  I was held captive from the first page to the very last page.  Not many books can do that and I am very surprised to find that this was Mrs. Lockwood’s first book as the writing was truly superb!  Further proof U of O has an excellent journalism program lol!

This book was such a fun, exciting, intriguing, fascinating read that took you on a real life love story.  Even though this book is a contemporary romance book – it is no cookie cutter love story.  This love story is messy, honest, realistic, and relatable.

This book follows Caralee and her friends on an interweaving web of love, life, friendships, understanding, vulnerability, and growing up.

Caralee meets Sam.  He is sexy, handsome, mysterious, and a total gentleman.  There is one problem though – Jason, Caralee’s boyfriend.  Teddy is Caralee’s best friend.  He is recently married to Anne.  There is one problem though – he’s in love with Caralee.  This book is not your average love story triangle – there are multiple angles involved!  This book is full of drama, love, excitement, and is just down right entertaining!

The main and supporting characters were likable, relatable, and well described.  The writing style is fluid, well developed, and at a steady pace.  There are twists and turns and unexpected moments. 

I would absolutely recommend this book as it was such a fun, exciting, intriguing, fascinating read!  Fair warning – don’t make any other plans because once you start reading this book you won’t be able to stop!  I am very excited to follow Mrs. Lockwood’s career and read the next book in this series!  Definitely check out this book – you won’t be disappointed!
