His brows shot up with interest. His lips parted slightly. Blue eyes that matched the sea drew Frankie to him and caused a sensation of dizziness to dance in her head. She was aware she was staring, but she couldn’t stop.

The squawk of a bird broke through the scrape of forks against dishes and the murmur of voices. The noises faded away. Even the thud of her heart seemed to pause when he nodded to her.

“Attention, everyone.” A server standing nearby with a carafe of coffee interrupted Frankie’s moment. “MacDyver has been sighted.”

“Quick the food.” Tikki covered their meals with napkins.

Silverware clinked as diners dropped their utensils and popped up their overhead covers–– their futile attempt at protection. As Frankie shoved her chair back to open their umbrella, she peeked at the man.

He picked up his toast and held it for a second. The seagull struck. With one swoop MacDyver grabbed the bread from his fingertips. A hush settled over the throng, and the bird soared heavenward with a snide cackle out the side of his beak and disappeared.

All gazes fell on the stranger MacDyver had robbed as he rose to his six-foot-plus height.

My Favorite Scene in the Book Beach Kisses and Sunset Wishes:

Most definitely, I have two favorite scenes in Beach Kisses & Sunset Wishes. The ending where they declare their love and the first kiss. Today, I’ve chosen to go with their first kiss.

Before I began writing this novella, I had a few ideas in mind for my characters. My hero and heroine recently had broken off disastrous relationships. Neither was excited about getting involved with each other. They justified spending time with each other with excuses. He wanted to see the sights. She was just giving him a tour. They needed a nudge to jolt them into action. That was their kiss. This moment would reveal the promise of what could be between them if they allowed their feelings to develop.

I was blessed with the perfect romantic location, Last Chance Beach. Incorporated into the setting are various sounds and sights––the rhythmic sound of rolling waves, children laughing in the water, the sky’s vivid yellows and oranges at sundown–to set the mood.

To make the evening more memorable, I added a drum ceremony. The drummers have gathered on the white sand to celebrate the sunset. The observance and the tempo of the instruments added to the island appeal and backdrop to the passage. So now Frankie and Sean stroll together along the edge of the blue ocean with the sun disappearing into the sea. And because my hero is a true romantic, he’s given the heroine a pin that looks like the flowers at her grandmother’s home.

Below is a brief excerpt from the scene:

His warm breath brushed her cheek. His woodsy coconut fragrance sent a swirl of heat through her stomach. If she leaned a little more, their mouths would meet. Their gazes locked as he straightened. She wanted more than anything to kiss him.

Gulls flew over them and called to each other in their piercing voices.

He moved back.

She put her palm over the pin on her chest. The best present ever, she thought, trying to steady her emotions. “I’ve heard wishes made on the beach at sunset come true.”

“Ah, then I’ll show you mine.” Gently, he touched her lips.

A motionless woman lay on her back, parallel to the base of Gram’s monstrosity. She was dressed in a dark dress. Black sandals revealed blue toenails. One arm lay outstretched with her fingers curled upward as though beckoning Mia to her. The polish decorating her manicured nails matched the shade on her toes. Long raven-colored hair covered her face from her forehead to her chin.

Zsa Zsa whimpered by Mia’s feet. She scooped up her pet and swallowed the lump of fear increasing with each step closer to the person. Had the woman fallen? Passed out?

The sweet fragrance of a perfume drifted toward her and stirred a forgotten memory. The familiar soft voice asked, “What else would a southern Florida girl wear but orange blossoms? It’s the cool new scent.”

Emily? A sliver of dread formed near Mia’s heart. No, it couldn’t be. Her sister’s hair was pink. But she often changed the color. Mia didn’t have to wait for the truth. The breeze lifted the strands upward from the woman’s face.

Mia’s legs wobbled. A rash of red points blotted her skin, and scratches crisscrossed her neck. Her lips were frozen in an “oh” of shock. Open, bloodshot eyes stared at Mia. Emily!

Tears blurred her vision. She clutched at a last hope. “Emily, is that you?”

The wind picked up and spun a foul sickly-sweet odor around her, drowning the other scent. Mia coughed and stumbled backward. Only one certainty floated through her confusion. Her younger sister was dead.

MY BOOK REVIEW:

This book is filled with such mystery, suspense, intrigue, and adventure that keeps your heart pounding as you try to solve this brain-twisting whodunit puzzle!!!

Who killed Emily McGuire?

In this book EVERYONE AND ANYONE is a suspect!!!

Mia’s life has been off the rails since the day she found her sister’s dead body. Since then, she’s also lost her job and her boyfriend broke up with her. Mia has been unable to fully function with the huge cloud of not knowing who killed her sister and why.

Unfortunately, the police chief isn’t really listening to Mia or taking her seriously even when she’s providing information and clues to help find her sister’s killer. It seems her sister’s case has come to a standstill and it is no longer the main priority for the police department. Mia can’t wait any longer and she clearly can’t count on the police to solve the case. So, she decides to hire Lucas Davis, a newly Private Investigator, who is just off the police force after suffering a recent trauma from an on-the-job shooting. Lucas is also the police chief’s son.

Together Mia and Lucas team up to solve Emily’s murder and find out what exactly happened.

The list of suspects seems never-ending!

And the real killer is planting evidence to make sure someone else goes away for the crime.

But Mia and Lucas are determined to follow every lead and get to the truth… Even if that means having a killer on their trail…

Wow!!! Wow!!! Wow!!!

I am a huge mystery book fan and my favorite thing about Nora’s book’s is that she ALWAYS keeps me on the edge of my seat guessing whodunit and she is one of the few authors who actually surprises me on the killer!!! I am really, really good at guessing the killer in books, TV shows, movies, games, etc. – but Nora can definitely beat me and shock me with her endings – and that takes skill!!!

This is the third book of Nora’s I’ve read. I have previously read and reviewed Nora’s other books, “Sweet Dreams, Baby,” and “Midnight Girl,” so I was thrilled to get the chance to read her latest work, “Trail of Secrets.”

Nora’s writing only continues to improve, grow, and expand with each book! I know she will be an author I will continue to read over the years!

I really liked the main characters, Mia and Lucas. They were likable, relatable, honest, and genuine. Mia was smart, sweet, polite, dependable, and compassionate. I liked that she was determined and steadfast in wanting to bring justice for her sister and get answers to why this happened. I think if I was in Mia’s position and the police weren’t doing enough to find my sister’s killer, I’d like to think I would be courageous enough to go out and handle the problem myself. Of course, I too, would hire protection, no way I’m going after a crazy killer without help lol. I also really liked Lucas. He was strong, protective, respectful, sincere, tenacious, and benevolent. I loved how he wanted to keep Mia safe and secured. There were definitely sparks between these two and it was beautifully written in a romantic, enduring, respectful, and tender manner.

I also felt bad for Lucas as it was clear he was struggling and feeling depressed for his dad being disappointed in him. He jumped at this case to prove his worth and that he still has the guts, stamina, and fortitude to solve the case. He wasn’t washed up – he could still do this. I really liked his encouragement, energy, dedication, and determination. He was fighting to prove that he was still a top investigator, to impress his dad, to find the killer, to keep Mia safe, and to win Mia over. It was clearly a story line of redemption, forgiveness, second chances, and new beginnings.

I think the author did a fantastic job on her character development as these characters were so real and personal on many levels!

I love Nora’s writing style that everyone and anyone is a suspect. She makes reasonable, valid points of why they’re on the chopping block, and then appropriately clears them in due time, and then moves on to the next.

This book has a creative story line with well executed plot points, excellent mystery structured scenarios, fantastic writing style with detailed scenes, relatable characters, is fast paced, and keeps you fully engaged and entertained.

There are some predictable scenes. However, there are still many unexpected twists and turns and misdirection’s that you won’t see coming!

This book is book one in the Love & Lies in Paradise Book Series. This book can be read as a standalone.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend it! I think all mystery readers will like this book too! So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading - you won't be disappointed!

“Let’s go.” He dug out a four-inch black flashlight from his pocket and turned it on. He threaded his fingers through hers.

The simple action felt intimate and personal, but she didn’t have time to react. He was leading her forward. Sticks and twigs crunched beneath their feet. They ducked under branches.

The blackness closed around them. She struggled to inhale and exhale calmly.

I’m fine. She angled her head upward, seeking the starlight.

Suddenly, her shoe caught in a hole. She lost her balance.

Travis tightened his grip and reached under her elbow to steady her. “You okay?”

The hooting of an owl answered.

She wet her dry lips. “Super.”

They walked until the trees thinned. An overgrown field lay ahead. A shrill scream sent quivers shooting through her.

“What was that?” She blinked, staring over her shoulder into the pines. “Was something or someone under attack?”

“Red fox. You must have heard one before.”

“Not that I recall. Though as long as it’s not Seth, I’m good.”

He released her hand and tramped to the edge of a field. “My uncle’s main hiding place was around here somewhere.”

“Somewhere?” She tightened her lips to keep them from quaking.

“I’ll find it.” He paced a few feet into the meadow of shrubs, knee-high gras, and waved her forward.

“Found it by the large oak. He pointed to a towering tree bordering the forest. Its limbs seemed to hover just beneath the sky now a mixture of stars and clouds.

BOOK REVIEW:

This book was such an intriguing, suspenseful read with a dash of romance thrown in!

Last year, I had previously read and enjoyed Nora’s other book, “Sweet Dreams, Baby,” so I was thrilled to get the chance to read her latest work – which also happens to be part of the same series. “Sweet Dreams, Baby,” is Book Three in the Love & Mystery in the 6-oh-3 Book Series, while this new book, “Midnight Girl,” is the follow-up, Book Four.

Nora’s writing only continues to improve with each book! I know she will be an author I will continue to read over the years!

This book has a great storyline that flows, terrific writing style with detailed scenes, well-developed characters, is fast paced, and keeps you completely entertained through the last page.

I really enjoyed reading this book and solving the case alongside the characters!!

I liked the main characters and even the supporting characters! Lisa, Travis, Alan, Mrs. Ferani, Chief Banks, Teagan, Noah, and of course the adorable cat, Jogger – they were all great, well developed, genuine, realistic characters! For the most part, I enjoyed the dynamic love drama between Lisa and Travis and the tension it created. I was curious how it was going to play out. However, at times it got annoying with all the back and forth indecisiveness. Yes, it was somewhat understandable during the times Lisa was unsure if Travis was helping his uncle or there to protect her. However, some of the it got a tad bit irritating. I loved that Lisa was a strong, smart, brave female-lead – those are my favorite type of characters and role-models.

I liked the relatable connection Lisa had with Ruthie, the missing teen. It really helped keep the focus on finding Ruthie as a vital plot point as opposed to a background plot point and being overshadowed by Lisa’s stalking. Of course, the story focused on Lisa and the stalker trying to kill her, but adding these extra elements really boosted the story.

Usually I am a bit hesitant on books and movies with characters that try to solve major crimes and go after the bad guys when those particular characters have no training and especially so, if they don’t carry a gun or weapon – it’s like they are asking to get hurt or get someone else hurt in the process. Thankfully, this book did not fall into that category, as the author did a good job making these characters realistic and carry protection. I can’t imagine if I were to hunt down an escaped convict that I wouldn’t have some kind of weapon to protect myself in case I found them – or if they found me!!!

I also liked how detailed and descriptive the writing was. One of my favorite lines in the books was, “As he sped along, storm clouds smothered the sun and created the feeling of twilight.” (217). That sentence and many others made this book easy to picture the scenes and characters – almost like watching a movie.

However, with that said, I did come across a couple confusing spelling errors, but it didn’t detract from the overall story.

There are a few exciting twists and turns and unexpected moments that will keep you guessing!!!

As previously mentioned, this book is the fourth book in the Love & Mystery in the 6-oh-3 Book Series. I had only read Book Three, “Sweet Dreams, Baby,” in this series before reading this book. This book can absolutely be read as a standalone as each book as mostly its own case. However, there are some references to the previous book and some of the characters seem to overlap. However, since this is an entertaining book series, I would suggest getting in from the beginning and starting with book one, so you don’t miss anything.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend this book to all mystery and romantic suspense readers!
