The mortally wounded wife, pregnant with male twin, dies giving birth in the wilderness to healthy babies. Only one twin is found and returned to Judas who survived the attack. The grieving father returns to America with his newborn and the corpse of Priscilla. The boy, Karan Lloyd Hamilton, grows up to be a Wall Street investment banker. He bears a physical scar from his traumatic birth which has transformed Karan into a predator by night in the streets of Manhattan.

Kartik Shiv Yuvarajan: the second twin boy of Judas and Priscilla Hamilton did not die but was taken by the mystical tribe of the national park. The tribe hides the baby until he is stolen and given to a tour guide of the park, Arjun. Afraid of the consequences of taking the baby to the American embassy, Arjun adopts the child, gives him the name Kartik Shiv Yuvarajan and then returns to his ancestral village. Kartik bears a similar mark upon his body like his twin Karan. This mark brings about strange physiological changes in Kartik and leads to unexpected events that threatens his life in the village. Arjun must now decide whether to let Kartik know of his identity or whether to flee once again with the teenager.

Hounds of the Monks: a warrior flees with his family to save his daughter from the lustful, cruel king of the land. When the king’s army gives chase to bring back the young girl, the warrior separates from his wife and daughter to protect them. Mother and her girl seek shelter in a monastery only to realize that the holy surroundings may be equally dangerous.

Desert Frogs: a film producer with her adolescent twin sons and a film crew travel to a fictitious nation, Gapharkh, to shoot a few scenes in the country’s legendary desert. A civil war is imminent in Gapharkh between the military regime and the nomadic tribe of the desert. Unexpected connections quickly form between the twin boys and the nomads while the war heats up in the backdrop as the film crew rushes to complete their work. Discovering that there was a dark motive behind allowing the foreign film crew to shoot in the desert, the producer desperately tries to escape Gapharkh with her sons and her crew.

Stolen Princess: Rosemarie, a young woman rescued from prostitution, finds herself alone and homeless when her husband is lost at sea and her in-laws throw her out of her husband’s home. Rosemarie’s fate momentarily worsens when she is raped and almost killed but, miraculously, she is saved by strange old women who take Rosemarie to a secluded, enchanting island. The heavenly place seems like freedom until Rosemarie realizes that there are sinister forces around her who intend to keep her captive in the isle. Rosemarie’s past may be her only salvation.

Bastard of the Mist: Angeline a young widow, arrives at a remote and beautiful rehabilitation center for veterans to work as the assistant of the institution’s co-founder. Angeline is supernaturally gifted. Her dark powers clash with evil forces that exist in the forests surrounding the institution when she discovers a sinister plot by her employer Professor Kvalish, a man with a mysterious past. An unraveling thus begins and threatens the existence of everyone at the rehabilitation center.

Nature’s Call Girl: in a futuristic Earth a global war is ongoing between humankind and nature. Here, a fictitious country Parakrytheon, has built a nation devoid of plant and animals with artificially created weather to protect its humans from natural predators. On a fictitious island Kamin, humans live harmoniously with nature and beast. This place has the resources that Parakrytheon needs to defeat its natural enemy. Twin brothers Hagaath and Laksha, and their sister Kamina, are the means to this end.

Excerpt from Story 2 - “Kartik Shiv Yuvarajan”

“Never did I think you would go so far as to work for fighting like this…never!! Your life, the life I gave you has come to this??!! You are putting yourself in danger every night like this?? For all these years?? How can you do this to me? To us? When you could have had such a different life that…” Arjun said angrily while crying to Kartik and pacing around the young man.

“Yes! I could have had a different life!” Kartik said abruptly in a harsh tone implying everything that had remained a secret about his identity.

Arjun immediately realized the intention behind those remarks and became quiet, but Kartik was only getting started.

“I know you know the truth about my identity, about my parents, about where I belong! But I NEVER, NEVER, EVER asked YOU TO TELL ME WHAT I UNDERSTOOD WAS YOUR SECRET! WELL THIS IS MINE!!” Kartik said extending his arms, his voice getting louder.

Tears ran down Arjun’s cheeks, he shook his head “Why? Why beta, why this?” he whispered in a broken voice.

Kartik pressed in his lips. He had put on a clean pair of clothes and had transformed back to his human self and looked towards the dirty soil below his shoes and nodded.

“My truth…you will hear my truth now…” he looked up at Arjun “…it was the only way to keep you alive, me alive and to keep the women in the brothel safe…I fight, you all stay safe. That was the deal I made with the gang leader nine years ago!”

“But why did you not tell me??!” Arjun stepped closer to Kartik “We could have left! We could have run away from the slums…to somewhere else…we could have been safe! Why did you not tell me!!” he shook Kartik’s arms, crying uncontrollably.

“Because I have a curse in me!! I am a tiger, I have a disease, I have to release myself to turn into a beast and everywhere I go this beast must be able to come out and I cannot run from myself bapu ji!!!” Kartik said agonizingly and crouched down in front of Arjun, shaking his head.

Arjun exhaled, half in shock, half in relief of the realization that his suspicions about Kartik’s abilities had finally come out.

The king shook his head vigorously “No! My father dispelled those rumors! There is no such gate only a void between Earth and the underworld of Jackal King Vihaan, where Ahankara has been exiled!! You could not have found something that never existed! My father would have never kept something like this from me!” he said earnestly and walked to her, holding her shoulders firmly to look into her languid eyes.

“AlexanDRA…listen to me…the path and gate to Juwala were protected by the kingdom of Nakandas” she said in her shrill voice without shrinking away from him.

“NO! No! No! You are lying…you are mistaken!! He would have told me!!” he clenched her shoulders, her body starting to writhe beneath from the pain.

 “AlexanDRA…the kingdom of Nakandas, divine serpents of the ocean, their kingdom has disappeared, the path and the gate have been left unprotected! You must call a gathering with the Spirits of Illumination!”

6.) The Picture Ghost

When Eugene came into his teenage years, the merchant used the handsome lad’s innocent charms to attract single, female guests at social events. The women were made to believe by Eugene that his benefactor, the rich merchant, was a lonely, generous, and warmhearted man. Thus, the adolescent enabled several affairs under such pretenses, for the merchant. The man, never having had the talent for pursuing women found in Eugene an indebted being who was willing to do anything for the person who gave the boy education and luxuries. Their relationship became so close that the merchant practically bought Eugene from his father, telling the fisherman that his son no longer wished to maintain ties with the village. To this Eugene did not raise much objection. However, he may have been coerced to break all ties with his biological father.

7.) The Old Willow Tree

The house belonged to an architect who had built many of the prominent business structures in the country, including a famous public greenhouse in their city that showcased exotic flowers and endangered trees. The architect had designed his house and lived in it with his two sisters and wife. The latter died at childbirth along with her baby. Following the tragic event, the architect put his house up for sale. And then the facts became stories. Helen could tell that the friend was adding his own imagination and fabrications to what seemed to have happened next. However, one thing was clear. At a certain point in time, the architect had given up or had decided not to sell the house. The friend was certain it had something to do with the property. Prospective buyers had rumored about feeling uncomfortable on the premises and some had even heard a woman’s voice speaking to them and others had heard a baby crying.

Five Reasons You Should Read My Book

I do believe that the 7 dark and paranormal short stories with female protagonists in The Sexy Seven Supernaturals will satisfy any reader looking for drama, mystery, thrills n’ chills, sensual excitement, handsome and gorgeous characters, loathsome and evil characters, wicked n’ scary plots! There is all that in my book :) wrapped within these 7 short stories!

1.)  A superb read on a gray or rainy day, on a sunny day by the beach, by the fireside during a cold winter evening – this book will not disappoint and is sure to keep its reader good company! Even on a plane or waiting at the airport, these 7 stories will make a traveler’s time fly!

2.)  At the end of each story the reader will be left wondering if the female protagonist could have made different choices to get to a different fate and trust me there are silent options which the intuitive reader will be able to figure out :)

3.)  The poignant emotional backdrop and the paranormal mystery that surrounds each plot will make the reader feel like they are experiencing the female protagonist’s situation firsthand. I may not make it easy to love the girls and women in my stories, but you will be bound to feel for them and root for them eventually.

4.)  The adult characters who surround the female protagonists, both males and other females, are equally interesting and have powerful personalities in their roles whether overtly or passively. The children’s characters in Ravenous, the fourth story, are as adorable and as that story is creepy.

5.)  In the book’s cover you see three women leaning sensually against the number 7 that looks very strong and sturdy, there is a reason for this! It is the underlying theme of each story - four women, two young adults and one adolescent, all relying upon an external strength while they tend to their delicate internal distresses, yearnings, and longings.

Describe Your Book Cover and How It Came About

The front cover of The Delicate Affair of Colonel Baquiste (TDACB) depicts a sunset scene upon the dangerous Ganis River, in Hastan, where on a rowboat you see the male protagonist, Colonel Valstohl Baquiste dressed in disguise of naturalist Gulaan Dasmire, looking at an elderly boatman who is focused on steering the boat because of the powerful river currents. In the backdrop is the intense setting sun over densely populated forests. In the foreground, above the scene, are a pair of delicate silver anklets and below, a pair of vector-crossed swords with regal hilts, the blade of the left sword dripping with blood.

The front cover is packed with meaning and themes that are prevalent in the book!

“Delicate Affair” is the term that was used by Ambassador General Masim Tropart to describe the mission which he literally demanded Colonel Valstohl Baquiste to accept. When one reads TDACB one will realize that these two words could also be used to describe the factors that led to the profound change that came upon the Colonel, in his heart and mind, compelling him to reconcile his tragic past and nudging him gently into self-discovery and self-healing. However, this came at a painful cost to the Colonel, starting with his attack, at the last colonization battle against Hastan, that led to his permanent disability.

The anklets and swords are both symbolic and metaphorical in the sense that they speak to the delicate and harsh elements that impact Valstohl while the objects are also part of the story; there is a reason the blood is on the left sword’s tip (when you read TDACB you will probably guess why!). Besides the symbolism, the two objects also represent male and female essences in the novel. I use these attributions quite a lot because it is part of Valstohl’s self-discovery journey, through Gulaan Dasmire, whilst knowing that both are the same person whose duty is ultimately to serve the Llehstanz Monarchy as Colonel.

If we look at the center scene of the imagery on the front cover, one tends to feel the essence of an intense sunset and the quiet silhouetted figures on the boat. Unlike sunrise that lightens the sky, a sunset turns to night which to me represents veiling, hiding or concealing or disguising, danger or threat, and heightened anticipation. All things which have meaning in TDACB, especially the influence of a veil and the outcomes of being in disguise. The concept of seeing things in silhouette intrigued me when writing TDACB because only in disguise could the persona of the Colonel see the shadows of Valstohl and Gulaan, to begin to reconcile one with the other as a subconscious journey to self-discovery and self-healing. Dusk is also the time when the roads leading to Daikalin city and to the Yervaan palace become treacherous for travel because of the danger of attacks from the Hastana thugs. The sky colors of dusk tend to be vibrant, harsh, striking, hot, dynamic, and energetic, all the characteristics that apply to the overall mood of Southern Hastan where Daikalin city and the Yervaan palace are located. It is the place where Valstohl must go under the disguise of naturalist Gulaan Dasmire.

When you look at the two characters on the front cover’s scene, you will see Colonel Valstohl Baquiste not in his Llehstanzite military uniform, rather he is in the disguise of naturalist Gulaan Dasmire. Gulaan is quietly observing the elderly Hastana boatman. Observation is a key element that repeatedly shows up throughout TDACB and is the trigger of key events. I use it to show that when one observes, it not only impacts oneself but also the person being observed. People observe the Colonel (Valstohl) and the naturalist (Gulaan) while he too observes others as both Colonel and naturalist. Most importantly the Colonel is able to observe himself as Valstohl and Gulaan which has its own impact.

The boatman is an elderly man being shown focused intently on navigating the vessel through the dangerous river Ganis. He is not however detached from his passenger (Gulaan) even though the boatman is focused on his task at hand. Elderly men play an important role in the Colonel’s life as described in TDACB, men who are strictly duty bound to the Llehstanz Monarchy while having lasting impact on Valstohl Baquiste.

The river journey scene that is ultimately depicted on the cover is the initial place of identity change and identity collision for the Colonel as he begins to embody the persona of the naturalist while recalling his tragic past. The dangerous rapids on the river Ganis threatens the life of Valstohl but he is reassured of his safety by the gentle, elderly Hastana boatman, and this reminds the Colonel of his father. It is at this point that Valstohl looks back at his life, for the very first time since coming to Hastan to fight the colonization battle for the Monarchy of Llehstanz. This scene in the Delicate Affair of Colonel Baquiste is the first moment of a silent transformation in the Colonel, consciously and subconsciously!
