Belega by Dianne Hartsock - Book Tour - Exclusive Excerpt - Giveaway - Enter Daily!

Belega
by Dianne Hartsock

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE:   Erotic Fantasy Romance (M/M)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BOOK BLURB:

The Karthagans have regained their ancient powers of manipulating nature, but at the price of madness. In their lust for control, they've destroyed their island and most of their race. They come now to Belega, where one of them, Camron, seeks domination over the known world. The Mage has come from the northern continent of Sennia to bring peace but finding his strength no match for the coming struggle, he passes his abilities on to Natan, who only desires a simple life.

Now only Natan has the ability to stop Camron, but the personal cost is more than he imagines. It is only with the combined strength of his friends, his Karthagan lover, Kavi, and his deep desire to bring lasting peace to the earth, that he finds the courage to overcome Camron and restore balance to the world.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:
Something wasn’t right. They rode close on Bryon’s heels as the soldier unerringly followed Camron’s trail, but Natan felt an urgent pull toward the east, as if the earth itself called to him in anguish. He slowed his horse, listening, then called out to the others before turning into the forest. He needed to see what Camron had done.
Dread and anger crept into his heart as he rode between the trees. He knew what he would find over the ridge. He’d dreamed of it many times, the torn earth, twisted trees, and bloody ground. Fury blinded him, so he drew his horse to a walk, fighting the desire to chase Camron to the ground. He could easily rip the world apart in that instant if it would give him Camron. How he would make the Karthagan suffer!
His horse snorted and came to a stop. A shudder passed through its large frame. Natan slid from the saddle, holding onto the pommel to steady his shaking body. He was vaguely aware of Kavi slipping from his horse and stumbling to his side as he entered the horror waiting in the glen.
It was as if a child in the throes of temper had been there. The green earth was heaved into rocky mounds. Deep pits of bubbling tar rose to the surface. A hundred trees had been snapped at the trunk and hurled in all directions. Small animals lay where they’d burst apart from an intense pressure on their tender bodies.
Natan grew ill as the nightmare overwhelmed his senses. He wanted nothing more than to crush Camron in his hands, make him feel the pain of the poor creatures dead on the bloody soil.
He fought a rising panic in his breast that seemed to snatch at his breath. He couldn’t fight that way. He mustn’t fight that way! Sobs choked in his throat. He didn’t know what to do. Kavi’s whimper at his side broke him. He moved to take him in his arms in a sudden desperate need for human contact. He was in agony.
“Don’t,” Kavi moaned, horror in his gaze, and pulled from Natan’s clasp. Natan dropped his arms instantly. He couldn’t take on Kavi’s pain as well. He turned from him and lurched across the broken earth, brushing into Kirstin.
“Kavi needs you,” he managed to say, and would have passed her, but she touched his face. He cried out as her fingers burned his skin. “No!” He jerked his head away.
A house where ghosts lurk in the basement and the faces in the paintings watch you walk up the front stairs. Rooms where you keep the closet doors closed tight at night. It’s where her love of the mysterious and wonderful came from. Dianne is the author of m/m romance, paranormal/suspense, fantasy adventure, the occasional thriller, and anything else that comes to mind.
She now lives in the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon with her incredibly patient husband, who puts up with the endless hours she spends hunched over the keyboard letting her characters play. Dianne says Oregon’s raindrops are the perfect setting in which to write. There’s something about being cooped up in the house with a fire crackling on the hearth and a cup of hot coffee in her hands, which kindles her imagination.
Currently, Dianne works as a floral designer in a locally-owned gift shop. Which is the perfect job for her. When not writing, she can express herself through the rich colors and textures of flowers and foliage.
Alex by Dianne Hartsock - Book Tour - Exclusive Excerpt - Giveaway - Enter Daily!
Alex
by Dianne Hartsock
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE:    Psychological Thriller

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BOOK BLURB:
Alex is twenty and confused. He always is. The world presses on him with its horrors and pain, with scintillating auras that bewilder his eyes and drive the migraines deeper. He hears the cries of the children, sees the brutal images of tortured victims. He feels out of control and his mind slips…
Severely abused as a child, he is left with horrible scars on his body and even worse scars within his mind. Even though it puts him in danger, he’s compelled to help those who call to him. He’s driven, motivated by his visions to rescue them and hopefully uncover the killer. When he can, he helps the police; yet some detectives suspect he’s involved. Often, Alex finds himself alone and afraid in a world he doesn’t always understand.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT:

Ben drew up a chair beside him. “These are the people who have gone missing in the past four months.” He selected a photo of a man in his early thirties. “This is Robert Holmes. He’s the exception, disappearing last year in late July. But we have reason to believe his case is related.”

Alex studied the picture. He heard an anguished voice in his mind and knew Robert Holmes was the person he’d seen reflected in his own eyes last summer.

“Mary Sanderlin and Karen Ottoman went missing this spring,” Ben continued. “Stay-at-home moms who disappeared within hours of each other from the same park. Then there’s Kerry Franklyn, a high school math teacher.” He motioned to the picture of a young man with a pleasant smile. “You know about Mariam Kramer,” he went on at the last one, sounding tired. “She was walking home from the park but never made it.”

Alex picked up the girl’s picture. She was beautiful, with the same chestnut hair and gray eyes as her sister.

Helen gasped. “That’s how I see her in my dreams. Who could do this? She’s only eleven years old.”

“What are your dreams about?” Ben asked.

“It’s evening and Mariam’s running down an empty street. A man’s chasing her. It’s Alex.” she swallowed. “Only now I remember something else. A blackness looms over both of them.” Her voice dropped lower. “I think it means Alex will disappear next.”

Brad cleared his throat for attention. “Isn’t it just a dream?”

“Maybe. My sister and I are very close, and I almost always know when she’s in trouble. It’s a gift we share. Alex must have some of this same gift.”

She stared at him with a strange glitter in the depths of her eyes that was almost hypnotic. Unexpectedly, she reached over and grabbed his hands. He tried to jerk away, but she wouldn’t let go. He moaned as brutal images flooded his mind once again.

***
The man had been there with his groping hands, hurting her in the dark. She was lonely and frightened.

He was with the other one now.

She could hear the screams.

He was coming!

***

Alex yanked his hands away from Helen’s, scrambling to his feet. He backed against the nearest wall in terror, covering his eyes against the blood and despair on the tortured girl’s face. The odor of wet earth filled his nostrils even as it sealed Mariam’s mouth and crushed her still beating heart. He slipped into the darkness with her.

He came to himself with Jane’s arms around him, on the floor, dazed. Taking a desperate breath, he winced at the stab of pain in his chest. He sat up and rubbed his face, sick and dizzy.

Doctor Beckett let go of his wrist. “Take it easy. You fainted, but your pulse is strong.”

“Convenient,” Kramer muttered from where he leaned against the wall.

Ben crouched beside Alex. “Did you see them?”

Luka

by Dianne Hartsock

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: MM Romance/Fantasy
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Luka makes a desperate wish and the earth shifts to his will. Regretting it immediately, he tries to undue the sorcery, but it is too late. He asked for hope, and to his horror, all the hope in the world is given into his keeping. He desires nothing more than to return this gift to the world.

Aethan wants to get his hands on the Well of Hope in Luka’s keeping. If he can ransom out hope to others at his whim, the world will be at his feet. Where it belongs.

With the aid of his lover, Rhys, Luka stays one step ahead of Aethan. But Rhys has his own enemy in Aethan, his estranged father.

Rescued by Luka, his sweet, gentle witch, Rhys now stands with him against Aethan. They have vowed to return the Well of Hope to the earth despite all odds, or die trying. For what is life worth, for anyone, without hope?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT ONE:
He missed his lover, though he’d been the one to send him away. Luka had wanted him to find a better life than he could offer, a solitary witch bartering his potions. And he had wanted Rhys safe from his enemies. But he may as well have cut out his own heart when Rhys had left.
Luka sipped his tea, enjoyed its comfort, then heat flushed his skin as he recalled his dream last night, the feel of Rhys in his bed. Rhys had been tender and passionate and welcoming. Luka had cried in his arms, overwhelmed with the joy of it. Had wept again on waking to find himself alone on the hearth, Rhys across the room, reading a book in the morning light spilling through a window, as far away as the years that had separated them.
A bird fluttered past, calling his attention, and Luka’s spirit flew with it, soaring into the sky. The rush of air exhilarated him, and he dropped with a smile back into his body. After hastily setting aside his tea, he pulled a crystal from a pocket and held it up to the faint winter sunlight. He marveled at the earth reflected in glass. Focusing his gaze, his essence slipped easily into the encapsulated world and flew along the pathways, flitting between trees and brush. He scampered with a family of squirrels along a branch, leaping with wild glee from limb to limb.
GUEST POST:
Some of My Favorite Items in My Office
Hello! Welcome to my writing room. I’ve spent countless happy days here, but also many exquisitely painful hours working out a difficult scene or making sure I have the exact words for the emotion I’m trying to convey.
Today, the sun is streaming in the window catching my prisms and sending rainbows dancing on the ceiling. I have my favorite books by my favorite authors around me, beautiful art decorating the walls, a peaceful setting in which to write.
Not that I don’t write other places. Coffee shops are fun, and in the living room by the fireplace. I’ll also write while someone’s watching TV in the room, if I must. But I prefer to be here in my writing room. I don’t really call it my ‘office’. It was my daughter’s room until she went off to college, and we still keep a bed and TV in here for guests. But I have a large desk here by the window and my favorite things around me.
Sitting here at the desk, I have my group of gargoyles to my right. I used them for inspiration for a short story I wrote many years ago. Now I use them as reminders when I need to add that touch of magic and wonder to a story. Same with my shelf of faeries. I’ve been writing a lot of fantasy and paranormal stories lately and enjoy sharing my room with these mystical creatures.
I have my own published books in front of me, reminders of what I’ve accomplished. And that, yes, if I keep working hard, getting the story down that my characters insist I write for them, I have a good chance of getting their story out in the world. Sort of an, I’ve done it once and I can do it again.
My favorite books and art pictures are around me for that amazing feeling of creativity and inspiration and beauty, reminding me to create something beautiful as well. *Did you notice my Tolkien poster? Tolkien was my first and greatest inspiration to be a writer. To the right of that is a mask of St. Nicolas I bought myself when working on my story Nicolas.
I feel blessed to have such a lovely room to create in, where I’m left in peace to crawl into my stories and live there for a time. Thank you for stopping in! I’m curious, do you have a favorite place to write? I’d love to hear about it.
The Basement
by Dianne Hartsock
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

GENRE: Paranormal Horror

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Alex is haunted by visions of the dying, but now it seems the ghosts he’s seeing are real as well.
In this sequel to ALEX and THE SHED, Alex wonders if he’s seeing ghosts. His friend Justin has bought the Fulton place, a beautiful old mansion on the edge of Oakton. But something’s wrong in the house. Alex has visions of a small boy, trapped in the basement, and a man at the top of the stairs who won’t let him leave.
And Logan Fulton has come to town, Helen Kramer’s cousin, a psychic medium who wants something from Helen, whatever the cost. He and Helen had spent time in the Fulton house as children and Alex suspects Logan has something to do with the spirits now awakening in the old mansion. But whether Logan is calling them forth or if something else is controlling them, Alex can’t be sure.
The child’s spirit calls to Alex, as do others trapped in the house. There is a dark entity holding them there, keeping the child forever in the basement, the others for his amusement. But Alex has never believed in ghosts, so what is really going on? As he strives to learn the boy’s secret, his friends are one by one pulled to the Fulton place and put in danger while Logan works against Alex, having an agenda of his own. Will Alex be able to solve the haunting of the old house, or will he and his friends be taken one by one, doomed to walk the dark hallways forever?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT TWO:

“So, Alex… What’s up?” he drawled, shaking his head when Alex gave him a confused look. He waved his hand at Alex’s clothing and Alex glanced down. Dark color flooded his face, and he plucked at his shirt, coughing as dust rose up around him.

“I’m sorry. I wasn’t thinking,” Alex said quietly. He sounded humiliated, not meeting Justin’s gaze. Justin could have kicked himself. He hadn’t meant to make him feel self-conscious.

“Not a problem,” he hastened to say. “Just wondering what you’re doing under my house.”

Alex glanced at him, eyes dark with emotion, definitely troubled. “I had to get in…” He covered his face with his dirty hands, voice catching on a ragged breath. “Give me a minute. This one’s hard. He’s so scared…”

He began to shake, obviously fighting for control. A sob escaped him, and Angie flung an arm around his waist despite the dust. “Hey, we’re here. Everything’s okay.”

They waited, and Justin unclenched the fists he hadn’t known he’d made, his hands sore.

Taking a deep breath, Alex looked up at them, and his expression turned puzzled. “What’s going on? Justin, you look like you’ve seen a…ghost.”

“I think he has, but he won’t tell me,” Angie said, frowning at Justin.

He tried to shrug it off. “I thought I saw something… A little girl.”

“Oh, her.” Alex looked unimpressed. “She’s just residual, a memory of a girl who once lived here. No consciousness. Nothing to be afraid of.”

“Oh really?” Justin said dryly. “Well, she scared the crap out of me.”

Birthday Presents
by Dianne Hartsock

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: M/M Erotic Romance, Crime Drama
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

For Tracey, life has become a nightmare. Kidnapped from a nightclub in Boulder, Colorado, brutalized and raped by the killer known as Crimson, he's held captive alongside Kyle, a young man Crimson keeps chained to his bed and is slowly torturing to death. Though Tracey manages to escape with Kyle's help, he is forced to leave Kyle behind.

Gene has never stopped looking for his brother Kyle, abducted from a nightclub seven months previously. The case breaks open when Tracey comes forward, claiming to have knowledge of the whereabouts of Crimson's hideout.

A manhunt begins, but Crimson's birthday has come and gone, and he will kill again.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT TWO:
Gene knuckled his tired eyes and yawned audibly in the large room crammed with desks and files and very few detectives. No one came in on a Sunday unless absolutely necessary, or in his case, unable to stay away. His gaze wandered again to the closed door of the office on the far end of the room. Craig was in there with the rest of the Target Crime Team. He'd gotten a call a short time ago saying an eyewitness over in Pine Bluff had seen Kyle alive no less than two days ago. God.
Hope trembled in Gene's chest despite Craig's cautionary words that Kyle hadn't been found yet. But this was the closest they'd come since Kyle's disappearance last November. And Gene had the bastard's knife. Hopefully forensics could get something off it, fingerprints or a serial number, anything to link it to a name so they could track him.
He rubbed the back of his neck. Craig had been furious with him when he found out Gene had been prowling nightclubs again. But what was he to do? No one else was looking for Kyle. Craig claimed Gene jeopardized his investigation. Fuck that. Kyle was his brother and he wasn't about to give up on him. And Gene was careful, only going on his nights off. If he happened to stumble on the kidnapper…
The front entrance thumped open and he glanced in that direction, then dropped his gaze to the papers on his desk, scowling. Just what he needed… A low whistle from one of the detectives walking in made his blood boil.
GUEST POST:
Who Inspired Your Love for Books?
My love for reading and writing books comes from many sources, beginning when I was as young as four or five years old. My sister Sharon used to read bedtime stories to us, or make up wonderful tales of her own. I’d sit spellbound while she wove tales of elves and wizards and goblins and encouraged us to make up stories of our own as well.
Once I learned to read and write, I started writing down my stories. I remember once in first grade my teacher pinned the story I’d written about an elephant at the zoo to the board. Oh gosh! My story was there for everyone to read. I loved it! And have never gotten over the thrill of having a story out there for strangers as well as friends to enjoy.
I fell in love with reading when I was twelve, devouring everything by Ray Bradbury, my favorite author, by the way! I adored Louisa May Alcott and Gene Stratton-Porter and the Bronte sisters. I’m still a romantic sap! And of course the epic fantasy Lord of the Rings. Frodo ran away with my heart. I’m still a voracious reader, squeezing in time every day for my favorite authors.
In seventh grade I had a terrific creative writing teacher. I think she was pivotal in my writing career. She seemed to love my stories and encouraged me to submit a story to the local newspaper who was running a writing contest. I won! There was my story printed in the paper for everyone to see. I was hooked! It fueled my passion and need to have my stories published and out there in the world.
I wrote and submitted stories from then on. Yep. I had an electric typewriter and liquid whiteout and got to work, mailing off chapters and waiting months to half a year for a reply. I have a stack of rejection letters you wouldn’t believe.
But six years ago my first novel was published. Yay! That really jumpstarted my writing career and with each acceptance I’m more and more inspired to keep writing. Nowadays I split my time between my day job and writing and reading and my family/friends. Sometimes there doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day to do all I want, but I have a great life and wouldn’t have it any other way.
