MY BOOK REVIEW:

This book, “Ilsa and Bears Bangs,” is an adorable, charming, adventurous children’s read filled with vibrant illustrations, valuable life lesson story lines, and fun interactive bonus activities.

This book tells the story of a sweet, young lady, Ilsa, who notices her friend, Bear having a bad day.  To help Bear turn that frown upside down, Ilsa offers to cut Bear’s bangs that are hanging down in his eyes.  Bear agrees to let Ilsa fix his hair and begins sharing personal details about his day-to-day life.  After Ilsa finishes Bear’s haircut, he immediately feels better and is all smiles on his way home.  Ilsa feels happy and satisfied to have been able to help her friend feel and look his best.  So, it only makes sense that the very next day Ilsa arrives to find several of her friends lined up hoping to have Ilsa cut their hair too.

There truly is something magical about having your hair done.  It releases a positive energy full of feel-good endorphins that trigger one to feel happy, relaxed, and reinvigorated.  I always feel like I’m on cloud nine after a salon visit.  I love how uplifting a simple hair cut and chit chat can relieve stress and make one feel good about themselves again.

This book features story lines with valuable life lessons such as friendship, which teaches readers about trust, compassion, sharing, treating others kindly and with respect, being honest, and the overall importance of being a good friend.  In addition, this book features problem solving story lines, which incorporates skills such identifying the problem, brainstorming solutions, choosing and implementing a solution, cooperating, working together, embracing change, resilience, and setting a good example.

This book is full of bright, vibrant colorful illustrations that really brings the story to life.

This book is only 22 pages front-to-back, including seven pages of text, six pages of illustrations, plus a glossary, and two pages of fun activities for kids at the end.

I really enjoyed that the author included a glossary section at the end of the book to help young readers by improving their reading skills and learning new terms.  In addition, I loved the two pages of bonus activities that allow for the reader to express their thoughts on what they want to do when they grow up and what their wishes would be if they were granted any three wishes.  Plus, there’s a spot to draw their favorite haircut or hairstyle.  I can definitely see young readers having fun with these bonus pages.

I also enjoyed the author’s dedication to the beauty industry teams, a lesser recognized group, but who are clearly miracle workers providing customers with hair care, positive energy vibes, and a listening ear with a sympathetic understanding.

This book is Book One of the Incredible Ilsa Book Series and can be read as a standalone book.  While this is currently the only available book in this new series, the author indicates many additional books to be released featuring Ilsa and her friends.  I look forward to checking out the rest of the upcoming book series and following along with Ilsa and her friends for another exciting adventure!!

This book is appropriately “G” rated as there is no swearing, no violence, no adult situations, and no sexual content.

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend it!!  I think all young readers and their families will like this book too!!  So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading - you won't be disappointed!!
