GENRE:   Sci-Fi

BOOK BLURB:

Adrian thought his time as a human experiment was over, that he was done suffering and had finally died. Never did he expect to wake up somewhere new, somewhere alien and far different than he could've ever imagined.

Has he found salvation, or is a test subject all he's destined to be?

***

When a scouting mission brings Reya and her team to a star sector that doesn't support life, they stumble into far more than they first bargained for. The planet they thought was deserted contains secrets with far-reaching consequences.

EXCERPT TWO:

Intrusive thoughts tumbled around in his mind incessantly. He replayed the experiments that had already been performed on him prior to waking up in the strange room. Memories of long hours spent curled up in pain on an uncomfortable cot alongside his cellmates came and went as time crawled by. Recollections of the constant stream of injections full of unidentifiable substances flashed by. He knew not what they did nor why he’d been given them, save that they were highly lethal. He’d survived, but he wondered at what cost.

His final moments before being shoved in the pod fought for dominance in his mind. Adrian tried in vain to push away the memory of liquid entering his lungs and drowning him as he gasped for air that wasn’t there. His breath came in short, shallow gasps as he forced himself to calm down.

Closing his eyes, he tapped his fingers nervously against the floor. His ears pricked and his eyes snapped open. There it was. That sound again. That suctioning, melting, bubbling sound. Adrian’s heart beat frantically in his chest as he expected to finally encounter his captors. He got ready to get up and run. He’d spent enough time as a lab rat.

GUEST POST:

My Favorite Scene in This Book…

This is honestly a tough question, as I have two favorite scenes in the book that I loved writing and I find them both powerful and impactful.

If I truly had to pick just one, then it would be the scene during Adrian’s experimentation where he ingests a mysterious purple substance. After hours of refusal to touch the cup full of the chemical in front of him, he eventually gives in and drains it in one smooth motion, thinking that it couldn’t be worse than anything else done to him by that point.

Never would he be more wrong.

The purple chemical is something I came up with for the story and is a driving force throughout the narrative. Simply put, the chemical is pain given physical form. A substance so horrifying that no being should ever be exposed to it.

And Adrian was to be its test subject.

I cannot stress enough the level of pain this mystery chemical brings about. No language will ever have the vocabulary to properly describe what it feels like. After being subject to it, nothing will ever be the same.

The introduction of this chemical and concept, as well as Adrian’s reaction to it, is what constitutes my favorite scene. It becomes so integral to the story and character growth that I can’t help but love it. It also contains one of my favorite lines in the book.

I hope that readers have strong reactions to what happens to Adrian at the hands of his captors, and this scene truly takes the cake with regards to his suffering. Everything that happens to him has a purpose and I want readers to experience that scene and wonder to themselves: why?

For that is the ever-present question of my series.

    1. Hello Tracie. To me, the best part about being an author is hearing other people's thoughts, opinions and interpretations of the novel I wrote. I find it fascinating, hearing all the different ways my story is seen.

    1. I never received influence to be writer and there is no one person responsible for my decision to become an author apart from myself. I wrote a story that I wanted to read and that I thought would be interesting. Once I was finished, I wondered if others might like my story so I decided to publish it.
