BOOK BLURB:

"Help!! My head is being lowered into the swirling vortex of a toilet!”

My name is Teddy, and I’m in the 6th grade. It’s my first day at a different school, and so far, the only person I know is Zane, the school bully. I was just your everyday kid trying to stay off everyone’s radar, but when I met my new best friend, Bud Wiper, everything changed.

Bud is a 6th grade millionaire from 60 years ago.

Yep, that’s right, Bud Wiper is a treasure hunter from the 1940’s who left behind his journal full of life and adventure, and even though we’ve never met, I think he might be the only thing that gets me through the 6th grade alive.

The Lost Journals of Bud Wiper is a fantastic story of bravery and friendship, perfect for kids, middle school students, and adults.

EXCERPT ONE:

Let me explain. The reason I was being shoved into the trash can in the boy’s bathroom at my new school was all my fault. Or at least, that’s what Zane kept telling me after he and his friends cornered me. He said there wasn’t enough time for a swirly, so the trash can would have to do.

GUEST POST:

Uncovering a Library's Secret Treasure

One of my favorite library memories was when I was in the fifth grade. It sticks with me today, and it even inspired one of the major scenes in my newest middle-grade fiction book, the Lost Journals of Bud Wiper.

Our class took a field trip away from our school to go to the community library in order to do research for the science fair.

My best friend and I were grouped as partners and were assigned to create a project that had something to do with magnets. We split up and wandered around the library, looking for books that could help us with our project.

My friend stayed in the children’s section looking through the science books there, and I decided to take the elevator to the 3rd floor, where the adult research materials were.

I stepped out of the elevator and found myself in a quiet, dimly lit room with rows and rows of books. I remember feeling so grown up and excited to be exploring this new part of the library. I made my way down one of the aisles and stopped in front of a bookshelf. I looked at the spine of a book, and for some reason, I was drawn to it.

I pulled the book out of the shelf when something fluttered out of the book to the ground. I reached down to pick it up and saw that it was a torn and weathered piece of paper with the words “seek the treasure” written in beautiful handwritten cursive.

I stashed it in my pocket and finished looking for books about magnets. I grabbed a few books and hurried back down to meet the rest of the class when I saw my teachers in a panic looking for me. I got an earful that day from my teacher, but I don’t think I heard anything she said for all the thoughts of treasure swimming through my mind.

I don’t remember much about the science project from that year, but I will never forget that day in the 5th grade and finding a secret message to “seek the treasure.”

The real treasure I found that day was a taste for adventure that still finds its way into every story I write, like that of The Lost Journals of Bud Wiper, which is about a middle-schooler who finds the lost journal of a forgotten treasure hunter and goes on a fantastic adventure full of bravery and friendship.
