Return of the
Wolfe
by Nancy Fraser
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Ever
since she was a teenager, Sarah Tremayne wanted one thing and one thing only—to
be a park ranger at Big Bear National Park in Bear Lake, Wisconsin. Her dream
was always to work along side her ranger brother, Brent, and be the first
brother-sister team in department history.
Matthew
Wolfe is also a ranger and Brent’s best friend. He tolerated Sarah when she was
a gangly teen following him around the park like a lost puppy. However, as
Sarah blossomed so did his desire.
Just as they’re exploring
their mutual attraction, a tragic accident pulls them apart.
Four
years have passed and Matthew is returning to Big Bear as the man in charge.
Will he and Sarah be able to mend their ragged fences and rediscover what they
once had? Or, will Sarah’s pain and anger force her away from Big Bear, and
Matt, forever?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT ONE:
The
wolf was back!
The
very thought nearly drove Sarah Tremayne to her knees. Although she'd known for
some time this day was inevitable, still she couldn't help but wish she were
anywhere else in the world other than Big Bear Park, Bear Lake, Wisconsin.
She
stood off to the side, watching quietly as the rest of the staff assembled for
morning report. Ann Marie waved and Sarah returned the friendly gesture
half-heartedly. Dave offered a tentative smile and she recognized it as the
moral support he meant it to be. At five minutes to eight they took their
seats.
Cal
Spencer came in first. Taking his place at the front of the office, he surveyed
the group. The door opened again, and Sarah's gaze lifted.
Bob.
She breathed a sigh of relief, grateful for even the smallest moment's
reprieve.
“As
you are all aware," Cal began, his deep voice echoing through the silent
room, "today is the beginning of my last month as Head Ranger here at Big
Bear. My main duties from this point on will be to advise and support my
replacement. The Department of Parks has hand-picked Big Bear's new Head Ranger
and, though I know it might be difficult for some, I expect each and every one
of you to show him the same loyalty you've always shown me."
Cal's
gaze met hers and he smiled knowingly. "I realize there are some of you
who don't agree with the Department's choice but the decision has been made.
Like it or not, we must all abide by it. As always, you are free to apply for a
posting elsewhere. I suggest, if you have any reservations at all about working
with the man, you seriously consider that option."
The
door opened again and Sarah closed her eyes. There was no need to open them.
She could feel his presence in the small, people-packed room. Her senses
tingled and her heart beat a wild staccato rhythm inside her chest. The
shuffling of feet told her Cal had relinquished his spot of authority to the
man who would be his replacement.
"Good
morning, ladies and gentlemen." He sounded the same. Strong. Commanding.
Unable
to deny the lure of his deep, masculine voice, Sarah opened her eyes.
JIGSAW PUZZLE:
Nancy Fraser has created a fun jigsaw puzzle for her readers to
play!!
This book was captivating, engaging,
entertaining, and intriguing!!!
I was enjoying this book so
much I didn’t even realize the time that had passed or that I had completely ignored
the outside world and read it in just one sitting!!!
I
have had the pleasure of hosting many of Nancy Fraser’s books on my blog, but
sadly have rarely had the chance to review her work. So, when this opportunity to read and review
Nancy’s latest book, “Return of the Wolfe,” presented I jumped at the
chance.
This
book starts right off with the return of Matthew Wolfe who had previously left
the area four years earlier under some complicated dark clouds. He not only has arrived back home, but has returned to
the park ranger life at Big Bear National Park with one small detail –
this time he is Sarah’s new boss. Sarah
has been dreading Matt’s return since she heard the rumors. It’s one thing to return home, but to come
back to the park, her park, and be her new supervisor – this seriously cannot be
happening!! With Matt’s return, all sorts
of emotions and memories are stirring up – like the day that he left, the day
her brother Brent died, the way Matt handled – or shall we say didn’t handle
things. Being a ranger at Big Bear was
always Sarah’s dream so she just has to push through this. But after having to work closely side by side
with Matt again Sarah also starts to remember what she loved about him and all
the good times they shared. Will Sarah
be able to forgive Matt? Can they start
back up where they left off? Or has too
much time past? Or too much hurt and
damage already been done that cannot be overlooked? Should Matt have never come back to Big
Bear? No spoilers here!! But you definitely will want to read this
book and find out what happens!!
This book is a fun, quick,
easy, enjoyable read that can be devoured in just a few short hours!!
I absolutely loved the main characters, Sarah and Matt. They were likable, relatable, and realistic. I loved the strong connection between them – I could feel it beating off the pages. Even after four years had passed, they both could feel every emotion (both good and bad) come rushing back like it was just the other day. These two had a deeper bond then even they realized. These characters are easy to connect to and relate with. It is clear from the get-go that both of these characters are hurt, damaged, and struggling with their own secrets and baggage and just need to open up to each other.
I really enjoyed that the
author created flawed and damaged characters that really showcased her writing
style and ability to push her characters to reach their full potential over
their arc.
A strong character development
journey to root for and enjoy watching it unfold!
I am a huge animal lover
and outdoorsy girl, so I totally loved the Park Ranger theme!! This story line was highly enjoyable, set up
many clever plot points, and provided beautifully described background scenes
of Big Bear National Park located at ever-so breathtaking Bear Lake, Wisconsin.
I really enjoyed the in-depth amount of research the author did while constructing this book that is strongly featured throughout the story. That plus her love and passion of nature is clearly evident from page one.
This book has a creative story line that evenly flows, superb writing
style, strongly developed characters, is steady paced, and completely keeps you
fully entertained!!
There are some predictable
scenes. However, there are still a few
unexpected twists and turns that you won’t see coming!
This book is Book One of the Love of the Land Book Series. This book can be read as a standalone. There are significant implications that there will be a total of four books in this book series. The author has noted that Book Two, “Vintage Secrets,” should be out in Summer 2021. While Book Three, “Perfect Imperfect,” and Book Four, “Delayed Reaction,” are both set to be released in 2022. I can’t wait to check out these next three books and discover what exciting, romantic adventures Nancy has devised!!
All in all, I really
enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend it! I think all contemporary romance readers will
like this book too! So, add it to your
TBR List and get to reading - you won't be disappointed!
