The Unexpected Wedding

GENRE: Contemporary Romance

BLURB:

Lady Elizabeth Tyndale has endured a string of bad dates. She’s not sure if sharing her opinions and business sense scared potential boyfriends away, but what’s the point of having an opinion if she never expresses it? When her brother and sister-in-law invite her to join them on a trip to San Diego, she reluctantly agrees. Besides, what does she have to lose? She’s certainly not burning up the dating scene in England.

Computer Programmer Jackson ‘Jack’ Stanfield doesn’t date much. He’d rather bury himself in code because computers are simple, but people are complicated. When his college buddy invites him to a BBQ, Jack reluctantly agrees to attend. He’s not prepared for his intense reaction when he meets Elizabeth Tyndale. Can the British beauty draw Jack out of his shell and open his heart to love?

EXCERPT TWO:

“What a beautiful view,” Elizabeth exclaimed as she watched the sun dip toward the ocean horizon.

“Not as beautiful as you,” Jack said. He reached across the table for her hand. “Thank you for such an enjoyable day. I’ve never liked the zoo better than seeing it through your eyes.”

Jack had never met anyone like Elizabeth. She was beautiful, funny, kind and had a good head for business as well. They had talked all afternoon about different business ideas while touring the zoo. For him, it was an intoxicating combination, and he felt drawn to her. He loved a woman with a strong work ethic and was impressed with the wedding business she and Keira were managing at Barrett Castle.

Every time she looked at him with her gorgeous blue eyes, he felt an unexpected thrill race down his spine. It was a connection he’d never felt before, and he wanted to explore it further. It was the first time he wanted to spend day after day with someone. It made him realize what he’d been missing in his life.

She squeezed his hand. “It was a perfect day, wasn’t it? I’m so glad I decided to come with Cade and Keira to California. Otherwise, I never would have met you.”

“That would have been a terrible shame,” he said, bringing her hand to his lips for a light kiss.

MY BOOK REVIEW:

I absolutely loved this book!!

It was truly a lovely, whimsical, delightful, engaging, heartwarming, romantic read!!

This is the third book I’ve read from the talented writer, Debra Elizabeth.  About two and half years ago, I had the privilege of reading her book, “The Accidental Wedding,” which is Book One of The Loving a Billionaire Book Series.  I totally loved it, so I was very excited to read her latest work, “The Unexpected Wedding,” which is Book Two of The Loving a Billionaire Book Series.

This book is a light, easy to read, enjoyable book that just swept you off your feet and transported you into a beautiful, charming, HEA story!!  I could not put the book down!!

I really liked the main characters, Lady Elizabeth Tyndale and Jackson “Jack,” Stanfield.  They both were genuine, honest, likable, and relatable.  I really liked the two of them together and could easily see them as a couple IRL.  I also liked how strong Elizabeth was and how she was so well put together, stubborn, strongly opinionated, determined, caring, kind, and benevolent.  In addition, I like how adorably nerdy, Jack, was as well as being a total gentleman, considerate, polite, and thoughtful.

I liked that this story had a sweet and innocent story line with a concluding HEA that left this reader satisfied.

This book was steady paced and easily flowed.  It provided soundly structured plot points that were evenly placed throughout the story line.

I liked the long-distance theme as I have too, personally, had to deal with miles getting in-between relationships.  It is hard!!!  And it didn’t work out for me…  However, thankfully, today’s tools have only made it easier, as people travel even more now, but it’ll still never be quite the same as being in the same room with that person.

I also really enjoyed the culture and the region shock differences.  Everything from Elizabeth being a Brit and Jack being more from the world of computers.  There definitely were some entertaining connection gaps!!!

Which unfortunately, brings me to why I marked this book down a ½ star.  First off, communication is everything in a relationship.  And I have so been there when communication errors have caused breakups.  However, this felt like it lacked more of a realistic essence of a problem, and it was more of a quick fix throw on some Dollar Store duct tape solution to create drama and heighten the plot before the end of the book.  It needed more spine, more of a complex issue, and more of a resolve, etc.  This couple doesn’t just quickly go all in and fall completely in love and then call it quits over something so petty.  That unfortunately then says a lot to their character arc development if they act so childish ¾ of the way through the book – where’s their growth?  Shouldn’t they be better character’s than that?

Again, I loved the book and the characters – just had one little dig as I know the author is capable of such impeccable writing and could have come up with a more creative, but plausible final big plot point for the couple to overcome.  I just felt there was a tiny let down.  But then, thankfully, a HEA at the end!!!

This book is book two in The Loving a Billionaire Book Series.  It can be read as a standalone.  Although I have previously read the other book in this series before reading this book and it is highly unlikely that one would get lost or confused while reading this book before book one.  However, there are character and story line overlaps.  Also, it is stated that the author is currently working on book three right now.  So, now is the perfect time to get in on the series!

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend it!  I think all contemporary romance readers will like this book too – and this book series!  So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading - you won't be disappointed!
