GENRE:  Romantic Suspense

BLURB:

Jennifer “Jenny” Abrahams has three goals: to teach women about mixed martial arts, become North Carolina’s first female mixed martial arts champion, and find true love. Two things stand in her way: the stalker intent on claiming her for himself and her emotional insecurities.

At a crossroads in his career as a witnesses protection minder, Peter “Pete” Gandry, is given the opportunity to return to the scene of his only failure––Smithfield, North Carolina. The assignment is familiar: he must keep an eye on Diana King. He agrees, hoping it will help him find redemption and ease the guilt he feels.

Odd things begin to happen to Jenny. At first, she dismisses them as over-reacting to memories of a stalker from her past. Until, she receives an unsettling note. Four words stand out: I crave your touch...

Increasingly, the evidence points to someone she knows. Who can she trust? And, who is this mysterious newcomer who has ignited long buried passion within her?

When the sister of an old nemesis arrives in Smithfield, Pete is forced to expose his true identity. The town quickly turn against him and Jenny refuses to see him. Just when he thinks it can’t get worse, the stalking evidence begins to point to him.

Can he clear his name and save Jenny from the real stalker in time?

EXCERPT THREE:

Jenny adjusted the black plastic trash bag in her hand. As she stomped down the front steps, she glanced up at the sky. The sun was making its daily trip back to the horizon. In an hour or so it would be dark. She reached the aluminum trash can at the side of her house and dumped the bag inside it. Before she could take a step away, she overheard Mrs. Montgomery, her silver-haired, widowed neighbor, talking.

“He moved into the trailer park yesterday.”

Another woman, she didn’t recognize the voice, asked, “Is he single?”

“Don’t know.”

Jenny laughed to herself––the Smithfield rumor mill was in its usual fine form. She shook her head. The poor thing. If he’d wanted a quiet escape, he’d chosen the wrong place. Val Robinson at the trailer park was the heart of Smithfield gossip. Everybody would know his business come sundown.

As she strolled back inside her home, the thought of the stranger in town lingered in her mind. Was it the man she’d literally run into that morning? She’d been so focused on getting away from her mother she hadn’t been paying attention to where she was going. The way he’d stared at her––with penetrating green eyes––had sent a storm of butterflies through her stomach.

Why hadn’t she thought to introduce herself and ask his name?

The adrenaline caused by her mother’s arrival, mixed with the confusion at the reaction to the stranger, had urged her to get away. Now that she was calm, questions came: how long was he staying? Why was he there? Was he single? And . . . how many people in town were asking the same questions?

REVIEW:

This book is exciting, intriguing, and suspenseful!  This book is full of love, romance, hope, forgiveness, redemption, and second chances.

As a victim of stalking, I do enjoy reading these types of books as it brings light to this heinous crime.  Many people don’t understand how serious stalking is and how far it can go.  Books like this one, highlight how important this is and how it can easily and quickly escalate.

I think this book was well written and thoroughly researched.

Some things were easy to see coming, but this book is a romantic suspense and there are a few things that will surprise you.

This book was jam packed with action and suspense that will keep you at the edge of your seat.

This book was so fast paced and there was a lot going on.  It definitely didn’t drag, but so much was happening you kind have had to be like, “Wait, what just happened?!” and possibly re-read that last paragraph again.

This book featured multiple POVs which I love; because it helps you really understand and connect with the characters on a deeper level.

Both main characters, Jenny and Pete were well developed, honest, and relatable.

I really liked Jenny as she was intelligent, strong, independent, and a fighter.  After being a victim of stalking she didn’t hide – she took back her life.  Jenny took mixed martial arts and self-defense classes.  She even went a step further by teaching other women about MMA, and helping them become brave, tough, and prepared for worst case scenarios.

I also liked Pete as he was genuine and always wanting and trying to be a better man.  Pete Gandry works in Witness Protection.  He is sent on assignment back to Smithfield, a small town he has a negative and complicated history with.  Pete works hard to recover from his mistakes and start over with a clean slate.  It isn’t long before he meets Jenny and they quickly fall in love with each other.  However, Jenny is still dealing with past and more recent issues that keep her distracted.  Both bring heavy baggage into this complicated relationship and they are faced with many challenges individually and as a couple.  They say love can conquer all right?  This book is sure worth reading to see if that’s true!

This book is book two in the Smithfield Series.  Although this book can be read as a standalone, there are so many references to the first book that I think it would have been better to have read book one first.  Book two still made sense on its own, however, if I had read book one first I think book two would have been more enjoyable and easier to follow along.  Reading book one would have allowed for a better understanding of the characters backgrounds and the story-line.

There is a love story – as this book is labeled a romance.  However, I thought the love story took more of a secondary backseat role with the main focus of a suspense/thriller.  I didn’t mind that, as I am more interested in being intrigued and captivated – which I was while reading this book.

This book is full of excitement, intrigue, suspense, love, romance, forgiveness, redemption, and second chances.  This book does have some surprises and twists that you won’t see coming.  I do recommend this book, however, I highly suggest reading book one first.
