BLURB:

“True Detective” meets H.P. Lovecraft in this chilling novel of murder, mystery, and slow-mounting dread from acclaimed author Mary SanGiovanni . . .

It begins with a freak snowstorm in May. Hit hardest is the rural town of Colby, Connecticut. Schools and businesses are closed, powerlines are down, and police detective Jack Glazier has found a body in the snow. It appears to be the victim of a bizarre ritual murder. It won’t be the last. As the snow piles up, so do the sacrifices. Cut off from the rest of the world, Glazier teams up with an occult crime specialist to uncover a secret society hiding in their midst.

The gods they worship are unthinkable. The powers they summon are unstoppable. And the things they will do to the good people of Colby are utterly, horribly unspeakable…

  1. Is there a routine you stick to when you start writing a story?

    2. Hahaha okay, cool. :)
Well, to me, the most enjoyable parts of writing are developing characters and atmosphere. I usually start with those, writing scenes that help me create or capture the feel of both. Then I go back and weave the plot through them, adding more to the characters and the sense of dread as things develop. I try to keep to a writing schedule nowadays, 1-3k words a day or more, if possible, and I find that it helps me focus without it feeling overwhelming or too much like a task. :)

  2. For Mary: Do you do anything special to set the mood (so to speak) when you're writing?

    1. Hi, Amber! :D Other than drink tea...hmmm...not really. Sometimes I put music on, or I'll put ID on in the background (subliminal murder talk, I guess, haha), but I'm easily distracted by shiny things, so more often than not, I just try to find the one place in the house that's quiet.
