GENRE: Paranormal Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
DC bustles, the light from the city fills the night. But in the dark alleys and backstreets, only slivers of light from a full moon dance. In such an alley, a shadowy figure is hunched over a body. She lifts her head to reveal soulless eyes and fangs dripping with blood as she licks her lips with exultation.
Standing up, she wipes her chin, and tosses her long black hair, then saunters away.
At FBI headquarters, Gerry examines the case files of 18 wealthy men, dead, with few clues, no DNA, and no leads...
When predator and prey become one, no one is safe.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT TWO:

The Attack:

Gerry turned, but she was there, her hands on his shoulders pushing him back hard against the hood of the Suburban.

She could smell his musky scent, and his blood, she could feel it coursing through his veins. His heart pumping thundered over the noise of the fans, pushing the precious liquid through his body. Her own desire to drink it in was near insanity. Her lips pulled back, fangs ready to sink into his flesh, her mouth brushed against his neck. The taste of his blood running down her throat would be heaven. She stopped and jerked back. She couldn’t kill him. Erin found herself questioning her actions.

What was she feeling? She didn’t believe in love. Never believed in love at first sight. Yet here she was with the perfect prey, and she wanted to know everything about him. Wanted to spend time with him, needed to be with him. The feeling she couldn’t be complete without him
overwhelmed her. It was the only time in hundreds of years she didn’t kill the man she chose. She stumbled back half a step. Dazed by her own confusion.

Looking up into Gerry’s wide eyes, she saw horror and confusion reflected back at her.

“I’m sorry, I was so scared. I didn’t mean to push you back like that. It was just that I was so afraid standing there alone.” Words tumbled out of Erin’s mouth. Did he believe her? “I ran forward without even thinking.” Words were still coming.

GUEST POST:

Putting Yourself on a Page: What It’s Like to Share Your Most Personal Words with the World

When I wrote Capital Thirst what people would think was the furthest thing from my mind. There was this idea for a story and I just wanted to write it. At the time I thought, “What would my kids think of what I’m writing?” But I never thought about other people reading it.

Even when I handed the finished draft to my wife to read, I wasn’t much concerned about what others would think. It was my wife, and she knows all my idiosyncrasies and oddities so how bad could it be? It wasn’t until I gave the manuscript to a co-worker that I began to think about the impact.

I had spent months pouring out my passion, hopes, and dreams into this. What if he didn’t like it? What if he thought I was a nutcase? It didn’t happen. Instead, he said he loved it. I hope he did and wasn’t just trying to make me feel good.

The next huge hurdle was posting it to a critique group. It terrified me. Before I posted Capital Thirst, I read many other works posted by other authors and I was terrified. They were good, some were fantastic. What was I doing? It took several weeks of me visiting the site before I got up enough nerve to post the first two chapters. Then I waited for the critiques. It was exhausting. What would people say? What would they think about me?

The day I hit the publish button was terrifying. It hit me then I was turning this loose on the world anyone could read it. People who didn’t know me would read this and judge me based on it. Was it good enough? Was I strong enough to read reviews? I was excited and terrified at the same time.

But that night as I was sitting wondering if anyone would buy my book, I was reading another book. It hit me it’s not about the author at all. I was engrossed in the story. I never once thought this person has some crazy ideas. It’s not about me as an author, but about the story. If people didn’t like it, it’s not me they are rejecting. I realized for the first time, even though I poured my heart and soul into this book. It’s a book, but not me.

I suppose those are brave words because I still hold my breath every time I see a new review on Amazon or Goodreads.

It’s terrifying, exhilarating, humbling and many other things all at once. But I wouldn’t trade the fears for anything. When I see the reviews people have left or the emails, I’ve received I know the apprehension I felt the day I hit publish was worth it. There have been a few people that were just said, it was okay. But I’m fine with that. I knew when I wrote Capital Thirst not everyone would be crazy about some aspects and now that it’s out there I can accept that.

The best part is now I’m super excited to get Beverly Hills Torture finished and published. I’m past the fear. It’s not about me, but the story entertaining people and letting them escape life for a few minutes.

I love a good paranormal read, something about the un-dead haunts the fringes of my mind. Mix in romance, love, loss, and you have a great story.

I voraciously read everything, fiction, and non-fiction but always find myself turning back to the darker stories. I’ve always wanted to write and the dream became a reality with Capital Thirst, and the remainder of the Erin Kingsly novels.

I spend most of my days designing and building websites, but my free time is devoted to my wife, family, and cats. Yes three grown children and three cats. Things can be hectic.

For fun you might find me driving winding roads with the top down or out photographing nature.

GENRE: Contemporary Romance

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Cole Stevens thought he was finally given a second chance in life. With the woman he always loved now by his side, an adopted son who felt like his own since the day he met him, and a baby on the way, Cole could finally see his forever. And then his past showed up on his doorstep, threatening to take it all away.
Now forced to relive painful memories and bring dark secrets to light, Cole begins a downward spiral that leads him back to the place he spent years trying to escape. As the pain of his past collides with the present, he finds himself lost again, fighting for his family's future. How can he find the way back in time for his forever to be saved?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

EXCERPT ONE:

Footsteps approach. I feel a light touch, and then hands gently finding their way around my waist. Camryn lays her head on my shoulder and squeezes. Gavin stands up next to me on the other side of the bench and links his arms around my neck.

“Daddy, are you mad at me?” he asks.

I lift my head, pull Gavin onto my lap, and tilt his chin toward my face. “You listen now. I could never be mad at you for talking about the baby. You will be the best big brother anyone could ask for. So, you talk about the baby all you want.” I lift my thumb. “Thumbs-up to the best big brother in the world.”

He touches his thumb to mine. “Thumbs-up to the best daddy in the world.”

As the pain melts away, Camryn squeezes my waist and kisses my shoulder. “Are you ready to go, best-daddy-in-the-world?”

I gently kiss her lips and assure her, “With you, I’m ready for anything.” The meaning of my words run deeper than the family dinner awaiting us at home.

She stands up from the bench and turns toward me. “Let’s start small then.” She reaches her hand out. “One step toward home?”

The distant roar of the waves slamming the shore, and the strength in Camryn’s simple words, fortify my resolve. I reach out to my wife, my lifeline, and grasp her hand, knowing she is the only one who possesses the power to save me.

GUEST POST:

My Favorite Scene in This Book…

In Saved by You, I don’t just have one favorite scene, but many. This book jumps back to Cole’s past. In these particular chapters you get a great look at his weaknesses and vulnerabilities. Cole is so strong, yet so broken in many ways. In book one, Lost Until You, his rough past is hinted at and described at the surface. However, this book digs down and your able to see and feel the pain of his past.

I especially love the past scene when Cole celebrates his last birthday before his mom dies tragically. It show so much raw emotion as Cole spirals down further and further away from this “perfect life” that once existed.

Overall, the setting of this series is amazing. It’s set in a small New Jersey beach town, much like the one I spend my summers at. I picked some of my favorite spots and incorporated them into the story. Much of the writing was done while living at the shore for the summer. I mean how can you not love watching surfers for a little inspiration?

Pictures of the beach town that was inspiration for this series:

Defying the Relic Hunter
by Gail Koger

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GENRE: Sci-Fi Romance
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

BLURB:

Kizzy sees dead people, but she’s a thief and talking to dead folks is about as useful as a three-legged horse. The Dragos clan booted her out when her year’s take was a lousy five hundred and sixty credits. The only way back in is to pull off a million-credit heist. Alone.

When Kizzy’s jobs as a roadkill collector and medical test subject goes south, she decides taking Montezuma’s gold away from an Indiana Jones wannabe is the ultimate heist.

The snag? The Indiana Jones wannabe is Ethan Jones, a dangerous Coletti Warlord. Now that she’s caught his attention, he’s determined to capture her as his prize.

Can the ghost whisperer defeat the big, bad Warlord? Defying the Relic Hunter!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
EXCERPT TWO:
My attention was drawn to a nervous executive in a cheap plaid suit. He was escorting a big guy wearing a black cowboy hat around the exhibits. Making sure my electronic null field was working properly, I strolled over for a better look. Yep, it was Ethan Jones. His amber eyes swept over my size fourteen body, lingered for a minute on the cleavage exposed by my turquoise tank top and immediately dismissed me.
Guess I wasn’t his type. You know, a bimbo? A Barbie doll look alike who wears a size zero and has breast implants bigger than her IQ? Hmm. Did Coletti warriors actual go on dates or did they just do the me Tarzan, you Jane routine?
Ethan’s square chin was covered by several days’ growth of bristly black beard. His ebony hair brushed the collar of his horribly loud orange cowboy shirt. The man had to be color blind. I mean, my God, who buys something with big yellow cacti on it?
My gaze skimmed over Ethan’s tight ass and the jeans that fit him like a glove. Hoo boy, the guy was ripped. Made me want to lick him all over.
I smacked my forehead. What the hell was wrong with me? Ok, it’d been awhile since I had a date. A depressed sigh broke from me. So long, in fact, that I had probably forgotten how to kiss properly. I certainly wouldn’t mind practicing on him. Too bad he was Coletti.
AUTHOR BIO:
I was a 9-1-1 dispatcher for the Glendale Police Department and to keep from going totally bonkers – I mean people have no idea what a real emergency is. Take this for example: I answered, “9-1-1 emergency, what’s your emergency?” And this hysterical woman yelled, “My bird is in a tree.” Sometimes I really couldn’t help myself, so I said, “Birds have a tendency to do that, ma’am.” The woman screeched, “No! You don’t understand. My pet parakeet is in the tree. I’ve just got to get him down.” Like I said, not a clue. “I’m sorry ma’am but we don’t get birds out of trees.” The woman then cried, “But… What about my husband? He’s up there, too.” See what I had to deal with? To keep from hitting myself repeatedly in the head with my phone I took up writing.
EXCERPT ONE:
Someone put the wrong teeth in my mouth last night. The canines poked at the back of my lips as if they didn’t fit. I wanted them either buried deep in the gums or all removed. I hate teeth.
Trash trucks moan like suburban whales while they back down my cul-de-sac. The truck eeping irritated me more than the sharp light. Wallpaper images of two windows beamed sunlight onto my head. BUD programmed the walls and sounds from archives of the room I had growing up for today’s alarm. I needed extra help waking most mornings but especially ones like this.
“Shall I turn the alarm off?”
“Yes. Thanks, BUD.”
My prominent sense of teeth in my mouth dragged me back to the memory of my disturbing dream—another in the monster series.
“Would you care to dictate your dream, or will you be typing today?”
“In a minute.”
Lying among the pillows for the rest of the afternoon would’ve been nice, but morning bladder ousted me. A glass-horn urinal emerged from the wall when the bathroom slid to a greater diameter. A glimpse of myself as the mirror flipped revealed the monster – although I guess there’s nothing new about my dark circles and bedhead hair. The sight prompted me to dictate last night’s werewolf dream while the concern for my mental well-being drained away with yesterday’s juice.
Damn teeth! I could use a drink. The canines still felt glued to the inside of my mouth. In the mirror inspection, my little porcelain cleavers appeared normal. Gross, but normal. Most of the time, it only took the image of lips separating a fraction to think of an opened wound. Beyond the teeth, disgust stemmed from dripping saliva, hordes of bacteria, and raw flesh waves of the palate. It all made me question the stability of dentists.
MY BOOK REVIEW:
This book was intriguing, captivating, compelling, and thought-provoking!
I really enjoyed the complex and creative story line filled with lucrative and well-developed plot points!
I liked the main characters, Ben, Susan, Laurel, Lenny, and Ben’s twin brother’s Ed and Francis.  Ben is 29 years-old and is raising his 7-year-old twin conjoined brothers on his own.  Ben is clearly still damaged and distraught over the car accident and rape that severely injured him emotionally, physically, and mentally and took the life of his father.  He continues to struggle to get his life back on track and move forward.  He begins a volunteer position at the Saint Center by painting images from the Saint’s journals to help make their coma sleep happier, comfortable, and peaceful.  Ben is tormented, guarded, insecure, brave, curious, stubborn, and determined.  I really liked how down to earth Laurel was and how much she wanted to help Ben overcome his troubles.  Laurel even had Ben stay with her on the farm after the accident when she saw he had become significantly depressed.  She wants Ben to watch the Archive video of the accident as she believes this will help him work through the tragedy, but Ben is resistant.  She is also very good with the twins!  I enjoyed Lenny as he was very silly and entertaining!  He provided some quick laughs through a more dark and serious reading.  And of course, the twins!  They sure were an interesting pair!  It’s hard not to feel for them and their situation, but they were extremely needy, and it was understandable why Ben occasionally tended to resent them.  I feel like all the characters were important, but I wasn’t able to connect with any of them or find them relatable or engaging.  Perhaps that’s because of the genre and theme of this book?  Or because their character arcs didn’t really seem to develop as far as I’d hope these characters would have gone?
I really liked the original story line and the stimulating scenarios.
Being able to go back and watch past memories sounds very intriguing.  Although, I’m not sure how often I would actually watch as I would have lived those moments already, I wouldn’t need to watch them.  I guess I’d go back and watch old memories with my great-grandparents that have since passed on as I miss them dearly.  But the premise that ANYONE can pull these files ANYTIME is eerie and disturbing.  Private moments should be private.  If I want someone to know about a certain memory, I'd tell them.  However, after the Archive is implemented there is very little crime.  That right there is HUGE!!!  I guess I might be willing to give up complete privacy if the crime rates were extremely, extremely low.  Knowing that giving up my privacy could save lives would be worth it.  Is there anything you wouldn't give up if it meant no murder, no gangs, no war?
As a millennial having privacy isn’t something I really grew up with or have ever been concerned with.  There are cameras in the mall and stores to prevent shoplifting.  Sometimes those cameras even help find a lost child or provide valuable clues to a child abduction.  Cameras on the streets help deter theft, burglary, vandal, drug sales, etc.  Those cameras can provide useful information in the event a crime is committed.  Cameras are there for people’s protection and the people who are usually afraid of them are the criminals that don’t want their crimes to be recorded.  I know to expect that when I leave the house and I go to 7-Eleven or the bank or Safeway or Macy’s, I will be on camera, it will be recorded, and most likely a security guard is watching me.  Those are just the realities of today’s world.  Does it bother me?  Not really, it’s what I grew up with.  But I honestly feel like those cameras are there for my safety.  Those same cameras can catch the bad guy, prove I didn’t steal anything, and provide evidence if someone was hurt in the store.  How can that be bad?
Then there’s all the cameras that people willingly brought into their homes.  These days your TV, smart phone, laptop, tablet, personal home assistant, home security system, etc. all have cameras and/or listening devices.  In today’s world we are obsessed with making our homes Smart – or at least I am lol.  I stopped counting after I got to over 20 devices in my home that are all Smart products!!!  Between the multiple cat security camera’s, smart phones, laptop, tablets, smart plugs, smart bulbs, multiple echos, multiple fires with voice, multiple roku’s with voice, smart pods, nest, smart TV, smart blu-ray, etc. – my home is always watching and listening!!!  But I don’t do anything wrong or illegal, so it doesn’t worry me.  However, yes, I’m not going to lie if someone I didn’t know was secretly watching those videos I would be creeped out and it would concern me.  But I also think if anything where to happen to me like if I was murdered it would be captured and the police would have a better chance of catching the killer because there would most likely be significant digital evidence.
This story line is something everyone will be able to connect to and is at the forefront in today’s society – the fight for privacy.
This story had incredible world-building which is very important in science fiction books.  I was very pleased with the significant detail that Mr. Wind provided.  It was very easy to picture.
Furthermore, I’d also like to point out that I think the author did an impressive job defining his structure specifics as it all sounded credible and cohesive.  Technology is constantly on the rise and fancy new gadgets are being released on the daily.  It’s only a matter of time until perhaps these creations are developed.  So, at no point did I feel like what I was reading was questionable regardless that this book genre is sci-fi.
Although the story line worked and there were definitely quite a few plot points to keep the story going – this book seemed on the longer end even though it was technically only 160 eBook pages.  This book felt a bit complicated and confusing at times as there was so much going on in the story.  There were several passages I had to re-read to figure out what was happening and get back into the story.  This is not a book that you can read lightly while doing other things.  This book needs your full attention to comprehend the full picture otherwise you get lost in the words and it’s just a jumble of letters.
There are some predictable scenes.  However, there are still a few very unexpected twists and turns that you won’t see coming!
This book is not part of a book series at this time and therefore, can be read as a standalone.
All in all, I enjoyed reading this book and would absolutely recommend it!  I think all science fiction and speculative fiction readers will like this book too!  So, add it to your TBR List and get to reading - you won't be disappointed!
